I would rather just cut taxes to the bone. Smart people will spend the money well and end up prosperous. Dumb people will do wh**ever it is they do. The country will be stronger, and people will be able to get off the treadmill of work/taxes and relax for once.

China and the Soviet Union were content to wage many proxy wars with the US.
In a proxy war, a third party nation is the battleground, like Vietnam, Nicaragua, and so on.
China wants to draw the US into as many proxy wars as it can to exhaust us.
Our best strategy is to decouple our economy from theirs and then use economic sanctions to destroy their proxies.
This is what Trump is doing.

I bring it up because during my time there, I have seen the wisdom of their idea of "Open Discussion" versus debate. When we keep everything polite, and remove the rhetoric/memes/tropes/gotchas, people can see just how much Right and Left differ in terms of the type of society in which they want to live.
