Wouldn't you say that it took a toxic, disrupting, norm-breaking individual such as Donald Trump to become president for this situation to get to this point?? In the history of this country, the left and the right always bickered, but it was never like that.

You throw out words like toxic and disrupting in an attempt to demean someone whose policies to date have brought our country to a point where there are more people working, our southern border is becoming more secure and our military is back to where it was before the disaster of the Obama presidency. Referring to President Trump as norm-breaking is a compliment. Doing things the same way over and over, as, so many previous administrations had done, is insane.

And if there is a war in the US it won't last very long.

And why will all that disappear? Do you really think a ban on you precious semi-automatics is going to change anything? Like I told Blade Runner--to do that you will have to go through the local police, the state police, the National Guard, the ATF and FBI, the Marines, the Army, the Airforce, and the Navy but not me. So go for it, I'll watch it all on my big screen.

Sounds like the only place you would be if any altercations took place would be in your mother's basement, hiding behind the washer.

Wow, I am glad you were able to show so much restraint. It would be interesting to see what you really think of the party that at one time included men such as Harry Truman and John F. Kennedy.

I finally got around to reading the small print on your posts Kevyn. It is too bad you cannot do what you infer all others should do. My future trips to OPP will provide me with opportunities galore to just skate on by your noxious tripe.

Provide the specific laws, treaty obligations, and international norms my tongue in cheek posting violated Kevyn. If that cannot be done, stuff it where the sun doesn't shine.

My answers to the following problems America is dealing, or not dealing, with today.
Number 1] Asylum: Any person seeking asylum in the United States must make the application at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in their country of origin. If they attempt to do so at any port of entry into the United States they will be denied with NO exceptions. If they enter the United States illegally they will be apprehended, automatically deported and returned to the nearest exit point. If they re-enter illegally they will be apprehended and automatically be sent to the nearest penal institution and incarcerated for a minimum of seven years of hard labor. Upon release, they will be taken to the nearest exit point and released. If they re-enter illegally a second time they will be apprehended and automatically be sent to a penal institution and incarcerated for life at hard labor.

Number 2] Visas: 2.1] Work Visas: Work visas to be granted only when there are no American citizens who meet the normal, acceptable requirements needed to fulfill the positions that are needed. They will be granted for a limited time period and will never be granted to a non-citizen where the position is determined to be in an area that may affect National Security. 2.2] Travel Visas: Are to be for a maximum of 90 days and only to be granted to citizens from countries determined to be no threat to the safety of the United States and its citizens. Every individual traveler must sign a declaration stating their intent to leave the United States within the time frame their visa covers. They acknowledge that if they overstay their time and fail to leave they will be apprehended and deported to their country of origin and will never be allowed to return. To assure that this can be accomplished they will agree to be implanted with a computer chip that notifies Border Control personnel when the time expires.

Number 3] Immigration: As with asylum, any person seeking to immigrate to the United States will do so at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in their country of origin. They will be required to undergo a rigid, intensive background examination, complete with both physical and mental checks. They will also need to provide verifiable proof that they will not be a financial burden on the United States. They will need to fulfill the following requirements prior to taking the oath of citizenship. 3.1] Learn the language of the United States of America [It is American English] 3.2] Integrate into society [Learn the History of the United States. Both the good and the bad] 3.3] Commit your support only to the United States [If you fly a f**g, be sure it is the Stars and Stripes] and 3.4] Do Unto Others as You Would Want Them To Do Unto You.

Like I said this is somewhat tongue in cheek but what made me do this was all of the BS surrounding the situation at our southern border. There is no other country on Earth that allows the number of immigrants that the United States does. No other country allows protestors to march down the streets of their country under the f**g of another country. People who immigrate to the United States need to become Americans, not African-Americans, not Chinese-Americans, not French-Americans, and so on and so on. I am a fifth generation American with a mixture of German, English and Irish blood and have never thought of myself as anything but an American.

That was truly a horrible day I was in history class when they announced his death I and some friend had gone out and handed out flyers and info for his campaign we were so excited when he was elected.

The day Kennedy was assassinated I was standing pier watch in Charleston, SC. It was a normal day and we did not carry a weapon while on the watch. When I saw our Gunners Mate running down towards me carrying a sidearm and a rifle I wondered what the hell. He handed the weapons to me and told me to take a position at the end of the pier. I was ordered to watch for anything in the water and if it seemed threatening to raise the alarm. Yes. That day and the rest of the time before his funeral were like a bad nightmare for me.

Thank you for the trip down memory lane. Fourth grade at Horace W. Greeley in Minneapolis in 1952. That is me in the middle of the front row.

This reply is for anyone who has read and answered my original post.
In the summer of 1959, I was with my parents in Duluth, Minnesota visiting relatives. I was 15 and that was the year that the Saint Lawrence Seaway opened and allowed water traffic from the Atlantic Ocean through the Great Lakes to Lake Superior. The US Navy had brought several warships and was holding an open house that week. My parents took me to Duluth harbor and I was allowed to go on all of the ships. I made a decision that day that when I got older I was going to join the Navy.

Fast forward to the spring of 1961. The man I was writing about is now the President of the United States of America. On the 25th of May 1961, John Fitzgerald Kennedy made a speech before Congress challenging the people of America to put a man on the moon before the end of the decade. On July 5th of 1961, I enlisted in the US Navy and left Minneapolis, Minnesota bound for the Great Lakes Naval Recruit Training center outside of Waukegan, Illinois. JFK was my President while in the Navy and I looked forward to v****g for him in 1964. Unfortunately, that never happened.

There was a leader of men who saw that his country had fallen behind others in ways that were important, both figuratively and literally. He saw his countrymen lacking motivation and worried that something was needed to propel them in a direction that would bring the country back into focus. He believed that his country was meant to be a leader in the future of the world and that his people were destined to provide the means necessary to achieve that goal. Other countries were competing to complete a goal that would possibly relegate his country to secondary status for years to come and this man knew that could not be allowed.
Tell me, if you will who you believe I am referring to and why you believe you are correct.

I am somewhat curious as to what kind of life you have where you spend hours on OPP trading barbs and witticisms with someone who you obviously cannot agree with on any subject. I'm kind of new to OPP but it just seemed a bit i***tic to spend that much time and waste that many brain cells over nothing that either of you will ever agree on. Just saying.

Under normal circumstances I would agree, (though Trump does seem to do okay speaking at his rallies) such as when talking about a polished politician, but that’s not what we have in Trump... I agree with your last, perhaps experience will help with that in his next term.

If I am not in error, I believe that the vast majority of people v**ed for Donald Trump because he is not a politician, not a glorified mouthpiece, and not beholden to the swamp people in D.C.. I grant that there have been a few occasions where I cringed when I heard what he said. Putting that aside was easy when I consider what he has managed to accomplish thus far in his first term. The lowest overall unemployment percentages in decades and the lowest unemployment rates for Hispanics and B****s in history. Re-negotiation of NAFTA, standing firm when demanding that our European allies in NATO pay their promised share of the costs to maintain that treaty, and convincing the North Koreans to stand away from missile launches. And knowing that he managed to do this when 90% of the MSM was doing everything it possibly could to convince the American people he is not fit for the office. Do I believe that President Trump is beyond reproach? No. No one is. I for one stand alongside of my President
