If you look at the most security sensitive installations around the nation from nuclear power plants and airports to military bases, the pentagon and even top secret outposts like Area 51 you will notice they don’t have walls around them. They are very secure and use various methods to stop trespassing and attacks. They are certainly well funded and security is taken seriously. Fences, video surveillance, ground sonar and listening devices along with security personnel protect them. If walls are the best way to stop incursion why are they absent here? The answer is simple the walls are expensive, outdated and most importantly ineffective. The Trump economy is finally kicking in.
After increasing steadily during the Obama years, the stock market declined substantially in 2018. Many economic experts say that this is a forecast of troubles ahead as 2019 might bring declining economic growth and possibly a recession. It may also bring the end of Donald Trump’s reign as leader of the free world.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 5.6 percent in 2018, the S&P 500 tumbled 6.2 percent, and the tech-heavy NASDAQ dropped by 3.9 percent. These are the worst losses since the 2008 financial crisis.

These large stock market declines undercut one of Donald Trump’s favorite talking points during his first year in the White House, when he bragged continually about stock market record highs. However, most people realized that 2017 was merely a continuation of the Obama economy, and the economic effects of Trump’s policies wouldn’t kick in until 2018.
And when they did, it was not pretty. The economy became overstimulated due to unnecessary tax cuts for corporations, which required the Federal Reserve to increase interest rates, slowing economic growth.
In addition, Trump started a trade war by imposing tariffs on both allies and competitors. This cut economic activity and foreign trade, and has led to more predictions of economic troubles in 2019.
Wall Street analyst Fred Cannon said:

We know the economy is likely to slow because you have the waning effects of tax cuts, you have the impact of higher rates already, and you have trade friction.”
The Federal Reserve has raised short-term interest rates nine times, to a range of 2.25 percent to 2.5 percent, since cutting them to nearly zero during the financial crisis. This has led to Trump’s criticism of Fed Chairman Jerome Powell and even threats to fire him, which would create even more turmoil in global financial markets.
David Bianco, a top investment analyst in New York said:

“Tension between the Fed and the president is obvious. This is not a first for the Fed. The Fed must make the right decision for the economy, not its credibility or autonomy.”
But everyone knows that presidents should not interject politics into global fiscal policy. If they try to do that, it will only add to the chaos.
Trump has also threatened to add tariffs to another $267 billion in Chinese imports, which would further hinder economic growth. He has already imposed duties on $250 billion of Chinese goods, driving up supply costs for U.S. businesses, as well as double-digit levies on steel and aluminum. Trump has also threatened tariffs on imports of automobiles and parts.
“We see slowing across the board, and we think tariffs are driving much of that slowdown,” said Rob Martin, an economist with a large international bank.
On top of that, consumer confidence is declining and many people believe a recession is right around the corner.

Trump is being threatened legally from several different directions, and this adds even more uncertainty and risk to the global economic outlook. As Democrats take over the house, they will begin hearings into Trump crimes as well as corruption in his administration. In addition, there is the ongoing Mueller probe and separate investigations into Trump’s businesses by the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York and New York Attorney General.
The risk of impeachment is increasing, and this also increases the risk of global economic problems due to the chaos and uncertainty in Washington.
With declines in the stock market and a slowing economy, Donald Trump will also see declines in his support among investors both large and small. Top Republican donors may decide that having him as president is too risky, and they may tell their employees (GOP members of Congress, especially in the Senate) that it is time for him to go.
Certainly 2018 was a bad year for Trump’s stock market, but 2019 may bring not only further stock market losses, but also the end of the Trump presidency.

Donald Trump’s Treasury secretary is seeking to calm stock market investors. They are nervous due to the chaos in Washington that has been caused by his boss. The president shut down key parts of the government, fired the Defense Secretary, and withdrew U.S. troops from Syria without consulting anyone. And then he threatened to fire the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, which would be a disaster and lead to more stock market losses.
With all of this going on, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has put together something called the “plunge protection team.” He also called the CEO’s of the six largest banks in the country and inquired into their overall strength and liquidity.
Mnuchin called the banks on Sunday, speaking to the heads of Bank of America, Citi, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, Morgan Stanley and Wells Fargo.

On Monday, Mnuchin will convene the president’s working group on financial markets, often called “plunge protection team” which also met in 2009 during the last financial crisis. This team includes Jerome Powell, the chairman of the Federal Reserve, and the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The stock markets took a dive last week, which was their worst in ten years. They are also on track to have the worst performing December since 1931, during the Great Depression.
In addition to the chaos Trump has created, investors are worried about the trade war between the United States and China, and the recent increases in interest rates. There is a belief that while the global economy is struggling, political instability in the United States will cause many more problems.

Ultimately there is a fear of a global recession, and it is to calm these fears that Mnuchin has taken the very unusual steps of calling banks and holding a meeting of top U.S. financial officials.
On Monday Asian stock markets were calm, having stopped their steep declines from last week. It is hoped that this week will also bring more calm to Wall Street. But nothing is assured.

At our annual Christmas Eve party my sister-in-law ask me to come to a function with her, my niece and my sister for a benefit for a group that battles trafficking. I of course said wonderful I'd be glad to go. My sister-in-law said that she had gotten involved as an organizer for the event and I said that's great. She then started to recount a story about a local woman who had been trafficked. She said the local woman was a professor at a local College and this was her story. That she was a single mom and had a couple of small children and wasn't making enough money. So she got involved with so-called traffickers in this way. She would be picked up at 11 p.m. four nights a week and do videos of her self cleaning house in her underwear or in the nude. Then they bring her home about 4 a.m. I said to my sister-in-law "Cheryl, that is not trafficking that is prostitution". My sister-in-law said no no she has to do it because she needs the money. I said Cheryl, people who are trafficked aren't paid for their labors they're s***es, theyre forced into doing things they don't want to do. My sister-in-law just shook her head as though I didn't get it. Maybe I'm the one that's confused. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

As the federal government was heading for a shutdown Friday night, House Republicans called an emergency meeting.

Plot twist: it was about cheese.

During her broadcast that evening, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow appeared astonished while reporting on the gathering, which was arranged so that lawmakers could discuss the Curd Act, a proposal to allow some cheeses to be advertised as “natural” despite having artificial ingredients.

Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) was clearly irked, feeling the timing was pretty inconvenient.

“This is an emergency meeting that we’re having here and I’ve seen some surreal things around this place, but this is really something,” McGovern said. “Vital parts of our government are about to shut down in just a few hours, and the Republicans have called an emergency meeting on cheese.”

Venting his frustration with Republicans in the room, McGovern wondered whether his colleagues had thought about how the meeting would look to the public, which would soon be faced with the third shutdown of the year.

“I mean, has anybody considered how ridiculous this is or how bad the optics are as the American people are watching what’s going on here?” he asked. “By all means, if you think the most important thing we have to discuss right now is cheese, I’ll let you have at it.”

Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) eventually jumped in to defend the meeting, calling the cheese bill “important to small business,” then eventually segueing into the issue of funding for the southern border wall, the key matter that prompted the shutdown.

“We are being overrun on our southern border,” Sessions declared.

That’s when McGovern piped up, appearing confused, asking, “There’s no wall in this bill, right?”

“It is important,” Sessions argued back, clarifying that he was “not talking about the wall of cheese.” Hohoho.... What a buffoon.

The important thing to note was that this rushed and last minute Curd Bill, in the dire hours of a government shutdown, was to allow some cheeses to be advertised as “natural” despite having artificial ingredients. An honorable pursuit, right? Makes one proud to be a Republican. Fool the public about what they are eating for lobbyist dollars: a Trumpian dream.
