Christians these days are just the worst. They are always taking stances on d******e issues like a******n and marriage and constantly have a lot of people angry at them. This is so unlike the person they’re supposed to be emulating -- Jesus, a cool dude whom everyone loved.

Now, I’ve never read the Bible (I think Jesus would agree not to waste time on really old books when there are much lighter, more uplifting alternatives available on Audible), but my impression is that he was this really nice guy who went around giving everybody great self-esteem, telling people, “Hey, keep doing wh**ever you’re doing. You’re great and are going to Heaven.” That’s why everyone loves Jesus: because he told people they’re all great the way they are and don’t need to change. I don’t know where Christians got this idea that people need to sacrifice their old way of living and follow some exclusive Savior to get to Heaven, but it doesn’t sound very Jesus-like to me.

In fact, if Jesus were around today, I’ll bet he’d tell Christians to “chill out” on all their narrow morality that upsets people and accept wh**ever people feel like doing because it’s all good. The only thing he might challenge people to change is to try more socialism. The main thing to keep in mind is that if you’re making people upset, you’re not being like Jesus, who only made everyone happy.

Wh**ever happened to him? I assume he got a book deal and ended up on wh**ever was the ancient equivalent of Oprah.

Donald Trump has made the US economy a centerpiece of his re-e******n campaign, relishing reports of steady job growth and low rates of unemployment.

But now, concerns of an economic downturn, buoyed by the president’s escalating trade wars, have threatened to undermine the core of his case for a second term in the White House.

Trump’s handling of the economy has earned him flashes of positive marks in an otherwise polarizing tenure in office. But since the stock markets plunged nearly 3% on Wednesday – the sharpest declines on Wall Street this year – the president has been beset by anxiety over the possible impact of an American recession on his watch.

“The economy is absolutely critical to his re-e******n,” said Michael Steel, a former aide to the retired House speaker John Boehner. “The handling of the economy is, generally speaking, the only issue that he is viewed positively on in polling.

Recession Warnings Music to the Ears of Democrats
Rick Moran ~ August 15, 2019
It's the dreaded "inverted Treasury yields" and Chicken Littles in the financial industry are all of a sudden issuing dire warnings of a coming recession.

What in God's name is an "inverted Treasury yield"?

Yields on two-year and 10-year Treasury notes inverted early Wednesday, a market phenomenon that shows investors want more in return for short-term government bonds than they are for long-term bonds.

It's the first time that has happened since the Great Recession and it can be an indication that investors have lost faith in the soundness of the U.S. economy.

Yeah, what he said. I wouldn't know an inverted Treasury yield from a kangaroo -- which makes me economically smarter than just about every liberal in the country. But I know crapola when I hear it.

After a big sell-off by the amateurs -- allowing the pros to make an absolute k*****g in the market -- stocks are stabilizing because ordinary people are still spending like mad.

Wall Street Journal:
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 38 points, or 0.2%, stabilizing a day after sliding 800 points--its biggest decline this year. The S&P 500 added 0.4%, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.1%.

U.S. shoppers increased their spending in July, the Commerce Department said Thursday, with retail sales, a measure of purchases at stores, restaurants and online, climbing a seasonally adjusted 0.7% from a month earlier.

Consumer spending, which accounts for more than two-thirds of U.S. economic activity, has remained a pillar of domestic growth, supported by low unemployment and rising incomes.

Recessions are as much about perception as they are about the numbers. If analysts were trying to start a panic with their "inverted Treasury yields," they're going to have to do better than that. Americans are apparently ignoring them as well, as they continue to spend and spend.

CNNBusiness:
Walmart ( WMT), a Dow stock and bellwether of consumer spending, said Thursday sales at its jumbo-size US stores increased 2.8% during its most recent quarter compared with the same period a year ago. Walmart raised its guidance for the remainder of the year, signaling optimism about the strength of its business.

"Our customers' economic health remains solid and our competitive position is strong," Walmart CFO Brett Biggs said in prepared comments Thursday.

Shares of Walmart were up about 5%.

Strong retail sales, low unemployment, low interest rates, low inflation -- what's not to like? If you're a Democrat, the news of an impending recession couldn't be better -- even if it's only wishful thinking.

Some analysts aren't falling for it:

Despite the recent bout of volatility, some analysts and investors still see room for stocks to move higher from here.

“We’re still far away from slipping into a recession that could cause the consumer to retract spending and accelerate a path of economic slowing,” said Terry Sandven, chief equity strategist at U.S. Bank Wealth Management. “Inflation isn’t problematic, interest rates are low and earnings are growing at a moderate pace, so the backdrop is still favorable for stocks to trend higher.”

There are some worrying signs. The tariffs are really affecting agriculture and manufacturing is down. But as long as Americans keep spending and the Fed keeps interest rates low, the economy should still be growing by the time November 2020 rolls around.

Canadian Health Care Refused to Pay for Disabled Father's Care, but Happily Paid for His Assisted Suicide
John Ellis ~ August 15, 2019
The well-known platitude "but for the grace of God go I" played in my brain while reading the tragic story of a disabled Canadian father who chose to end his own life, leaving behind an 11-year-old son. It would be easy to judge Sean Tagert, who was diagnosed with ALS six years ago. Do I believe he made the wrong choice? Sure. But I wasn't the one who was struggling to pay for my health care after losing my ability to breath on my own or feed myself. I'm not the one living under Canada's health care system that was more than happy to pay for my suicide but not the care I needed. So, yes, I disagree with Tagert's "choice" and mourn the loss of his life, but I blame Canada and their "touted" socialized medicine.

According to a story published by CBC, Tagert died on Tuesday, August 6. A Facebook post linked to in the article provides the sad details that led to his decision:

Sean was diagnosed with ALS in March 2013. For years he endured the steady deterioration of his abilities, until suffering cardiac arrest in late Oct. 2017. He was resuscitated and placed on a ventilator, and lived since then on life support, completely immobile, communicating only via an eye-tracking computer setup. Finally, with his health rapidly deteriorating, Sean opted for a medically assisted death.

The post goes on to point the finger in the direction of the government and the mandated health care:

Ensuring consistent care was a constant struggle and source of stress for Sean as a patient. While he succeeded, with the help of many, in piecing together a suitable care facility in his own home (including an expensive saliva-suction machine, needed to prevent him from choking, obtained with the help of donations raised online), gaining the 24-hour care he required was extremely difficult, especially as the provincial government refused to fully fund home care. The few institutional options on hand, Sean pointed out, would have offered vastly inferior care while separating him from his family, and likely would have hastened his death. We would ask, on Sean's behalf, that the government recognize the serious problems in its treatment of ALS patients and their families, and find real solutions for those already suffering unimaginably.

According to CBC:
Vancouver Coastal Health offered him 15.5 hours of home care under the Choice in Supports for Independent Living program but not the 24-hour care he needed. Tagert was later offered as much as 20 hours per day, which his doctor said was still not enough. Relocation was not an option as that would have taken him away from his son, of whom he had partial custody.

A single-payer health care system will always sink to the lowest common denominator, removing choice. If death is more efficient for the system, than death it will be. And that's on top of the gaps in medical care that those with socialized medicine suffer. Instead of finding ways to serve Tagert and his son, the Canadian health care system found it more convenient to k**l him. Now a young boy has lost his father sooner than necessary. This is the medical future promised by the Democrats.

The Catechism reminds us, “Sin is an offense against reason, t***h, and right conscience; it is failure in genuine love for God and neighbor caused by a perverse attachment to certain goods. It wounds the nature of man and injures human solidarity. It has been defined [by St. Augustine] as ‘an utterance, a deed, or a desire contrary to the eternal law'” (#1849).

Traditionally, Catholic moral theology has distinguished between a mortal and a venial sin. In the First Letter of St. John, we read, “…All wrongdoing is sin, but not all sin is deadly” (5:17). The notion of a “deadly” or mortal sin is found in other parts of Sacred Scripture as well: For instance, St. Paul in Galatians (5:19-21) asserted, “It is obvious what proceeds from the flesh: lewd conduct, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, hostilities, bickering, jealousy, outbursts of rage, selfish rivalries, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I have warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God!” (Confer also Romans 1:28-32, I Corinthians 6:9-10, and Ephesians 4:3-8). Therefore, Sacred Scripture explicitly identifies certain sins which k**l the grace of God in our soul and deprive a person of eternal salvation.

The Catechism presents the three criteria that must be satisfied for a sin to be mortal: First, the act committed must be considered grave or serious matter. Mortal sins are heinous in the eyes of God. Throughout the moral section of the Catechism, sins are noted as “gravely sinful”: for example, “The fifth commandment forbids direct and intentional k*****g as gravely sinful” (#2268). Second, the sinner must have full knowledge of the sinful character of the act; in other words, he must be acting with an informed intellect and must know this act violates God’s eternal law. Third, the sinner must give full consent of the will, meaning that he has reflected on doing the action and deliberately wants to do it.

Mortal sin destroys our union with God and the presence of sanctifying grace in our souls. Because these are heinous actions in the eyes of God, for a person to knowingly and willingly commit them indicates a turning away from the love of God. Anyone conscious of a mortal sin must undergo an interior conversion and then receive forgiveness and absolution through the Sacrament of Penance. Until making a good confession and receiving sacramental absolution, anyone conscious of being in a state of mortal sin cannot receive Holy Communion, except under extraordinary circumstances, e.g. no possibility of going to confession (cf. Catechism, #1457). Moreover, an unrepentant person guilty of mortal sin objectively risks eternal damnation in hell; however, “although we can judge that an act is in itself a grave offense, we must entrust judgment of a person to the justice and mercy of God” (Catechism, #1861).

On the other hand, venial sin denotes either an act of a less serious matter, or one which involves grave matter but is performed without full knowledge or complete consent of the will. Unlike mortal sin which involves a complete turning away from God’s love, venial sin wounds our relationship with God. The periodic confession of venial sins is also highly recommended as part of a good spiritual regimen. Actually, all sin is serious since it hurts our relationship with our Lord. Moreover, even venial sin can lead to mortal sin or become habitual if not corrected. A practice of regular confession helps the individual better form the conscience, recognize faults and weaknesses, resist temptations, and receive God’s grace to heal and strengthen the soul. St. Teresa of Avila said, “Always fear when some fault you commit does not grieve you. For in regard to sin, even venial, you know that the soul must feel great sorrow…. For the love of God, take care never to grow careless about venial sin, however small…. There is nothing small if it goes against so great a sovereign.”

With this in mind, we can also approach the subject of fundamental option, an easily misunderstood topic today. The idea of fundamental option is that each person makes a basic choice to love God, to accept His t***h, and to be His disciple. That choice though is lived-out each day of our lives by the individual choices we make to do good. In this sense, fundamental option makes sense.

Sadly, some individuals misconstrue fundamental option in such a way there are no particular mortal sins. Instead, the one “mortal sin” which would take a soul to hell is for a person to willingly, knowingly reject God and His love entirely. Such a stance would reduce fundamental option to some psychological game, whereby a person says, “I love God. I do not reject God. My individual choices or particular actions do not affect my total being. Therefore, although I committed adultery, or murdered someone, or fornicated, or robbed the bank, [or committed any other mortal sin], God still loves me, I love God, and I am going to heaven.” Think again! While only God can probe the depths of our soul and judge a person, those actions are objectively mortal sins. To choose mortal sin indicates a contempt for the divine law. To commit such actions evidences a lack of love for God and for neighbor. In essence, particular mortal sins show a rejection of God. Our Holy Father, John Paul II, wrote, “It thus needs to be stated that the so-called fundamental option… is always brought into play through conscious and free decisions. Precisely for this reason, it is revoked when man engages his freedom in conscious decisions to the contrary, with regard to morally grave matter. To separate the fundamental option from concrete kinds of behavior means to contradict the substantial integrity or personal unity of the moral agent in his body and in his soul” (The Splendor of T***h, #67). Therefore, mortal sin can radically change the person’s fundamental option. (Cf. Reconciliatio et Paenitentia, #17).

As we continue our spiritual journey in this life, we must not only renew each day the “fundamental” choice we have made for our Lord, but also repent of any sin and turn to our Lord for forgiveness. Let us also pray for those– especially those in our family– who have gone astray and are not living a life with our Lord, that they will turn to the Lord, seek forgiveness, and come to a new life in Him.
The Catechism reminds us, “Sin is an offense again... (show quote)

I strongly suggest that you read the Word of God instead of trusting in the word of man, asking the Holy Spirit for guidance – He’ll give it to you (1 John 2:27 ~ But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true—it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.)

But at the end of the day, it boils down to a few simple concepts.
Ephesians 2:1-10 tells us:

1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,
2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.
3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.
4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
5 even when we were dead in our t***sgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
7 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

Let's start with Romans 3 verse 23 ~ For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

You provided a commentary on Romans 6. I quote verse 23 ~ For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

And how do we obtain that free gift? Consider Romans 10:9-13:

9 If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.”
12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him;
13 for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

And with that I’m done discussing this.

God bless you.

Lioness Who K**led, Ate Own Cubs Hired As Planned Parenthood Mascot
Babylon Bee ~ August 12th, 2019
NOTE: This is satire.

https://babylonbee.com/img/articles/article-4653-1.jpg

LEIPZIG—Kigali the lioness has been hailed as a women's rights advocate after she k**led and ate her own cubs.

Planned Parenthood immediately jumped at the opportunity to leverage Kigali's popularity, offering her a job as the organization's mascot.

Kigali will appear in ads encouraging women to have as many a******ns as they want and be available to counsel young ladies thinking about getting a******ns.

"Imagine how inconvenient those two cubs would be if I'd kept them around---ugh," she said in a speech in front of Planned Parenthood's New York offices, with a lion from a local American zoo t***slating from her native German. "I'm now free to center my life around myself, having k**led those two little unwelcome l***hes."

She made it clear that the two cubs she k**led weren't actually lions, per se, but just "clumps of cells" since she hadn't subjectively decided they were living beings yet. "As soon as I decided to terminate them, they became nothing more than parasites."

The lioness said she plans on sleeping around with other lions and k*****g and eating some more cubs, should she get pregnant. "My cubs, my choice."
