  I wish you a very warm and happy Thanksgiving! I plan to break my diet and have pumpkin pie with real whip cream. I'm impressed, AuntiE, how many alliterated adjectives you came up with to describe my attitude. I'll take pompous on your authority and the rest since you are the authority on all the p words...takes one to know one. Thanks for the longer list of related words since before the only words I had for you were excessive pedantry and petty pickiness.

You only receive an A- for your alliteration. You failed to provide a p for "pedantry" you could have chosen preposterous, punitive, prodigus or pellucid.

Thanks Ginnyt, that's very sweet. Put an extra splash of whip cream on that pie from me! And, enjoy!

Apparently you do not understand how wrong your attitude toward b****s' situation is. I suggest you copy your posts about b****s and show them to a rabbi and listen to what he thinks about your attitude. I know what any true Christian would tell you. I know what my Jewish friends fifty some years ago at U-W Madison would say. I consider your "politeness" a pretense. You are a shame to Judaism. Work to make yourself better.

Jonhatfield, I have never felt the urge to intervene in your exchanges with others. I have a fairly deep respect for a lot of what you say, although I can see the criticism in others' opinion of you. That does not deter me from appreciating your posts. I will continue to do so.

But, you are way off base with Ginnyt, IMHO. There is nothing pretentious about the lady. She has always been, and remains a paragon of ettiquette on the OPP! Her criticisms of any group have always been based on behavior, not race or class. Even in disagreement with others, she maintains her politeness and courtesy, with civility to all. It is rare for her to veer off that path, and I have not seen it on this thread.

This is not to say I always agree with her. Hades, I don't agree with anyone...all the time! I'm not even taking sides with anyone in this discussion. It has proven to be one of the more civil and reasonable discussions in a while. I tip my hat, especially to RetNavyCWO! He has handled his exchanges with Ginnyt rather well. They simply have agreed to disagree, with courtesy and civility. Ginnyt has stood her ground, and remained, above all, a lady. Her behavior does not warrant her feeling ashamed as a Jew.

It would, indeed, be "work" for her to improve as a person.

Regarding the referenced exchange, I understand that s/he is trying to play a mind game because they are bored. I guess I should have waited to make my last response, it may have hurt feelings. You and I know that name calling is only the product of poor education in the home; so we can not be too harsh when we see the angry titles he gives us. Either s/he was not taught how to behave in public or was not able to understand the lessons.

I go good news today...!

Golly, Goody Ginny, you are so genuinely polite. Your education in the home obviously taught you to behave in public as you and AuntiE both know so well and tell each other all the time. My mother obviously gave me a poor education in the home and did not teach me how to behave in public. Shame on her and on me. I shouldn't have given so genuine a person the angry title Snotty Ginny much less Snobby Ginnnny. Thank goodness you are genuine Goody Giiiiiinny and not Angry Ninny Ginny like poor badly educated Angry Jonny who doesn't understand how to behave in public. Thank goodness you are a genuinely polite goody pretender and don't judge me too harshly. That would hurt my feelings. I wish you well on your once-a-month pumpkin pie treat--Thanksgiving feast?--and on the 9 mile run to work off the extra calories. As they say to actors as they go on stage, break a leg, Ginny!

Am I being genuinely polite enough? I wouldn't want to be a hypocrite.

Your attitude toward b****s is of course politely strict correct--they are lazy, self pitying, and instead of working to lift themselves up like you did, they go on welfare, take drugs, and get in gangs. No excuse for poor education and bad behavior in public.

Thank you for your comments and critique. I would pass on your complements to my mother, but she has passed. I try to make both my parents proud, they were indeed very gentle and loving people. As I am sure that you try to make your parents proud of your accomplishments.

Please do not speak harshly about AuntiE, she is a lady of good upbringing and strives to inject humor and become a mediator when the waters get rough. If you are perturbed with my input, place your anger where it belongs and that is with me. I am alone responsible for my comments, and if you believe me to be uncivil or pretentious, I can live with that.

I do wish you a happy holiday, may you be surrounded by a loving family and happy friends.

Good evening. I was wondering where you were!

No, you and I do not always see eye-to-eye, but I find you very charming when you remind me of overlooked or misspoken words. Life would be indeed dull if we all agreed all the time. I do thank you for your kind words, I hope to always live up to being though of as a lady. You humble me, and I feel very blessed.

Thanksgiving Proclamation
Issued by President George Washington, at the request of Congress, on October 3, 1789

By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation.

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and—Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me “to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be dev**ed by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favor, able interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other trangressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally, to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

Go. Washington

Did that book come out in time for these college students to be educated by progressives? Somehow I think it must have, but then who knows where these kids got those ideas.

Don't worry about me and AuntiE. We tilt frequently and are equally unkind to each other. I was not complimenting you--I was mocking your pretenses, quoting all your angry labels for me. It's called hypocrisy, Ginny, and I don't think your parents would approve of it. I'm sure they would also disapprove of bigotry against b****s. Just my impolite opinion.
