Bo, thank you. Sometimes people amaze me. They are so centered on themselves that they fail to see how life works. If they took their heads out of their own pocket and thought about the situation, then they would realize that we are a nation made of individuals. The nation must prosper so the individual can prosper. And, the beauty is that the individual cost, their piggy bank is not depleted in bail outs, but get fuller because of a stabilized economy.

I sure would like to know how much of his gross income comes from the food stamp program. I'd wager it's pretty high.

You can use food stamps to buy food and seeds and plants to grow food for your household to eat. Food stamps can be used at a grocery store, a supermarket, a farmer's market, a shelter that serves meals, or at a soup kitchen. You cannot use food stamps to buy non-food items, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, pet food, vitamins, medicines, lunch counter items, or foods to be eaten in the store. Restaurants can be authorized to accept food stamps from qualified recipients (homeless, elderly or disabled) in exchange for meals. Sales tax cannot be charged on items bought with food stamps. Food stamps cannot be exchanged for cash.

I just looked up what states allow EBT cards to purchase fast food. Those states are California, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oregon and Texas.

Since Detroit is an economic depressed area, one could surmise that a big part of his gross income comes from the food stamp program. In essence, we the taxpayer, are helping to pay that $15 per hour wage.

Some jobs will ALWAYS be low paying jobs as they should be. Nobody is ever going to support a family as an hourly worker at McDonalds. NEVER

The current welfare system provides such a high level of benefits that it acts as a disincentive for work. Welfare currently pays more than a minimum-wage job in 35 states, even after accounting for the Earned Income Tax Credit, and in 13 states it pays more than $15 per hour

Perhaps you can open a new topic regarding minimum wage vice welfare. Then all the people who want to discuss the cost of fast food and how much people can get by sitting on their behinds can be sent through the wringer.

How about teaching them how to cook? Chicken cost $1.98 LB on sale. That's less than 70 cents a portion. Why do they need MY TAX MONEY for EBT cards used for FAST FOOD?

Well lets see maybe the single mother just got off of working sixteen hour day and came home exhausted, and to heat up the house on a 90 degree day was something she didn't want to do, or use more electricity to cook,or didn't have anything to go with the chicken, and maybe going to Taco Bell was cheaper than cooking a whole meal, and there weren't any dishes she had to clean after yer long day. I know it's hard to remember they're people too.

You are correct. its HIS business and he is free to do what HE wants. It does not mean that all other food establishments must do what HE does.

The menu is relevant because the ability to pay higher wages stems from his ability to charge premium prices. Not all businesses have that option.

His menu and prices were something he had already worked out in his scenario.

Yeah sure McDonalds is full of kids all day and night because mom worked 16 hour days. While I am sure there are some I doubt its substantial.

Almost a good point. Try this. A family has lost their home because of massive lay offs or cut backs in hours. So, they are now on the street or staying at a motel. No where to cook or store food. What are they supposed to do? Should they starve? Perhaps let their children starve?

Yes, they are people and some are down not because they do not want to work, but because the economy has not gotten better fast enough to create new jobs. This family will remain in a hopeless condition until people stop thinking in a narrow field with blinders, we have to start supporting small and large business so new positions can be created. Not bail out, new jobs. New tax burdens have to be halted, such as Obamacare. At the rate we are going, most if not all, new jobs will be created in the overseas economy because of the tax issues and penalties imposed. Simply put, it is too expensive to open and maintain a business in the US. Cheep labor has something to do with this, but the largest expense is taxes, oversight, and too many regulations. If we supported the companies and small business and gave them reasons for hiring Americans, then our economy will improve.

Maelstrom, isn't it amazing how confused some posters are? The level of reading comprehension is abysmal, and they just don't seem to understand what the original post was about.

ginny good point on taxes and small businesses. Of course there are some folks in hotels unable to cook. But I am sure its a very small percentage of those we are speaking about.
