It's already against the law to kill or murder someone but it happens. One of the ten commandments is "Thou shall not kill" but it happens. There are already laws on the books that restrict and infringe on peoples ability to possess fire arms but people still get shot and killed. Knives are used to kill people, vehicles are used to kill people, bombs are made and used to kill people. People kill other people and it matters not what instrument is used because it is the person that kills, the internal psychology, the psychic, the defective gene, or maybe it's as complex as lack of education, poor parenting, or mental or physical abuse. So now, as a result of recent school shootings it becomes imperative that we do something, even if it is wrong, in order to make us feel better and show everyone that we care. I personally don't think more laws, more restrictions, or more regulations will do a damned thing to keep this from happening again, because law abiding, caring, loving people already obey current laws. Whether you are religious or not you can not deny that evil has existed from the beginning of time and like it or not evil is only an individual perception and individual perceptions are learned values. They are values that are instilled in every individual from birth to death and they come from everything and every avenue of influence in our lives. Even if we could take the total human and peel the layers of influence off, like an onion, one at a time and analyze them in great detail we still may not find the defining cause that makes someone kill another. Even if we could there would probably be uncountable endless variations and or possible causes that would make and individual take the life of another.
I don't have the answers, nor do I have the solution but I do know that what we are currently doing with laws and restrictions against law abiding individuals is not working because it only addresses the symptoms (instruments of death) and not the cause.

I remember coal oil cooking and heating stoves. Oil burning lanterns and lighting for the house, and a hand pump on the kitchen sink. Bathing in a tub outside beside the well hand pump. The outhouse was 30 yards from the back door and it less than 5 minutes to do your business because of the cold or the odor or both. As a Marine, I was taught that the foremost and primary requirement as a Marine was to destroy the enemy. That meant that you needed to be physically and mentally prepared for one on one physical combat no matter what your MOS may be. I've been a little green TURD and was molded into a physically fit fighting machine (1964). I guess things have changed and we now have the pussyfication of the Marine Corps. That may be Ok though real Marines can use the wannabees for a buffer of cannon fodder.
