Oh, man, that's awful. I can't imagine the pain and grief of burying my own son like that. What a crying shame. I too teetered on the edge of alcoholism for several years. Thank the Lord I never fell in, but came close on many occasions. I wish you well, Don. Cherish his memory while you live, and know that one day you will both walk the Streets of Glory, together again. God bless.

Don, nearly 15 years ago my dad really suffered from the death of my brother who was taken by cancer. Nothing like your son's but my dad just couldn't understand why his children were going before him. I don't know what he would have done if I had passed from my heart attack but nobody ever told him about that or my bypass surgery. The old man passed, himself, at 97 two months after I had my problem. The EMT who rode in the ambulance with me was sure I had passed on while we were enroute. Maybe that is the reason I didn't go all the way.

Anyway, let me tell you I am sure it will ease up for you and sooner than you may believe. Please don't let it get you completely down.

When I was a young teenager I spent a lot of time smoking dope and drinking beer. It would not have been difficult to end up as an alcoholic. The day I graduated from high school I left home, gave up beer and grass, and never looked back, best decision I ever made Or rather the second best after marring SWMBO. I can understand why many people can't give up the booze, there are still times when I think about having another glass of wine or another beer and decide one of either no more than two times a week has worked well, and I have no craving for anything more. I have been so blessed with God's gifts including friends like you on OPP. You are in our prayers and I know that you are strong and will get through this with the love of friends and the strength that comes from God's love.

Don I lost my son of nineteen years to a hit and run driver and I can tell you no mater what the cause losing a child is never easy. Take your time for grieving and healing and it will take time. Also don't blame yourself either these are all easier said than done. I know my late wife said I was a literal zombie for six months before I finally started coming out of my stupor. Just give yourself time Don and take care we are all praying for you and your family.

Thanks, I Haven't Love Many People, Don E. Was With Me From His 14 Year B'Day, After Divorce, He Saw Me And Many, Many Others Get And Stay Sober, I Loved That Guy, He Was a Brave Courageous Man While Serving Has a Chest Full of Medals, But Alcohol Kicked His Ass, But I Still Love Him... Don D.
