The Secret Service Is Almost Out of Money to Protect Trump, His Family

The Secret Service is almost out of money for protecting the president and his family, the agency’s director told USA Today in an interview published Monday.

More than 1,000 agents have already reached the cap for salary and overtime pay, which should’ve lasted the entire year, Director Randolph “Tex” Alles said.

The issue is the president’s busy travel schedule as well as his large family, Alles explained.

The agency has faced a crushing workload since the height of the contentious e******n season, and it has not relented in the first seven months of the administration. Agents must protect Trump – who has traveled almost every weekend to his properties in Florida, New Jersey and Virginia – and his adult children whose business trips and vacations have taken them across the country and overseas. Since his inauguration, Trump has taken seven trips to his estate in Mar-a-Lago, Fla., traveled to his Bedminster, N.J., golf club five times and returned to Trump Tower in Manhattan once.

Trump's frequent visits to his "winter White House" and "summer White House" are especially challenging for the agency, which must maintain a regular security infrastructure at each – while still allowing access to paying members and guests. […]

The president, First Lady Melania Trump and the couple's youngest son Barron – who maintained a separate detail in Trump Tower until June – aren't the only ones on the move with full-time security details in tow.

Trump's other sons, Trump Organization executives Donald Jr. and Eric, based in New York, also are covered by security details, including when they travel frequently to promote Trump-branded properties in other countries. (USA Today)

“The president has a large family, and our responsibility is required in law,'' Alles told USA Today. "I can't change that. I have no flexibility.''

Alles said he is in discussions with lawmakers to increase the pay caps for agents from $160,000 to $187,000—a move supported by Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings, who first brought the issue to light last year.

"We cannot expect the Secret Service to be able to recruit and keep the best of the best if they are not being paid for these increases (in overtime hours),” his spokeswoman Jennifer Werner told the paper.

Republican lawmakers agree.

Amanda Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for Rep. Trey Gowdy, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said he is "working with other committees of jurisdiction to explore ways in which we can best support'' the Secret Service.

Clearly, the 6,800 agents and officers is not enough to handle all the demands in the Trump administration. After all, they are now protecting 42 people, including 18 of Trump’s family members, which is up from 31 during the previous administration.

Alles hopes the agency’s hiring efforts to bring on 7,600 agents and officers by 2019 and 9,500 by 2025 will help relieve some of the stress.

"We have them working all night long; we're sending them on the road all of the time,'' Alles said. "There are no quick fixes, but over the long term, I've got to give them a better balance (of work and private life) here."

In the meantime, however, even if Congress approves of Alles’s proposed increase to the spending cap for the agents, roughly 130 agents would still not be fully compensated for all the hours they’ve put in.

"I don't see this changing in the near term," Alles said.

Update: Alles issued a statement that the agency has enough money to protect the president through September.

“The Secret Service has the funding it needs to meet all current mission requirements for the remainder of the fiscal year and compensate employees for overtime within statutory pay caps,” he said.

As I listen to the republicans calling democrats socialist it very disturbing. Because all But nothing but what we call a rally cry to there base. But most right wingers are so rapped up in h**e they have not even the basic concepts of socialism. I have always leaned towards what's called Democratic socialism and capitalism. Not a society totally built on socialism that would be foolish and I don't know any common sense democrats that wants a total socialistic society.

So let's start with a definitions before I try to prove my point.

(Democracy) Is a form of government in which all citizens take part. It is a government of the people by the people, and for the people.

(Socialism) is where (ALL) people put our resources together and work for the common good of us all and not for our own benefit. We are attempting to share our wealth within society.

Now when the right wing hears share the wealth (OMG) the democrats want to rob the rich and give it to the poor. (BUT UNLIKE THE REPUBLICANS HAVE LEAD You To BELIEVE THAT IS NOT DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISM)

(DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISM) Sharing the wealth means polling tax money together to design social programs that benefits (ALL) citizens. Even the corporate elite.

Now let's take a look: Fire and police Departments are both excellent examples of democratic socialism. So rather than leave each individual responsibility for protecting life and property we poll our taxes, and operate under a non profit status. Under the right wing it would seem absurd to think some corporations putting out fires or responding to a home invasion. Right wing advocates just give everybody a gun and eliminate the police department.

Public education another social program but unfortunately public education ends with HS. Most of Europe now provides low cost or free college education. They believe in an educated society, they are more productive. When Americans graduate from college they have in most cases massive debt. Instead of being able to start a business or build on their careers they have to send off monthly payments for years on end. They can't buy new cars or houses they have to put this off till they satisfy their debt. They cannot not take economic risk, invest in the economy. Takes these massive loans being paid to the corporate banks and inject it into our economy everyone wins. Instead of a loan for education how about a loan for new cars new homes, and all the goods and services that go along with middle class it's called expendable funds. The private sector will win also.

But you're Republican theories if I am no longer in college, why help everyone else. Let's use Europe they pay an estimated $20 a month that's 66 cents a day in taxes. If you work 40 years you paid $9,600 into there Social college program to educate you're family.

Healthcare if you're employer does not provide health Insurance you must purchase yourself. As we can see you will pay thousands in annual additional deductibles and co-Pay.

I researched a few countries That actually have better healthcare than the US these individuals pay $35 a month on average everyone pays into the system and it reduces the price for everyone even the employee based insurance. More money in the hands of the middle class to invest in there economy. These countries have lower cost specially thru the Pharmacuticals when the country negotiates with this corporation as to cost of medication. Which even if you are Republican you understand the cost in this country is 3 times the cost in other countries. But(OMG) more regulations by democrats god forbid a democrat save money for a republican thru regulation. This is evil socialism and and get the government out of my healthcare. We have a nation of 325 million people wow what negotiating power we would have as a nation just with pharmaceuticals. But those evil socialist.

In the US republicans have been able to control there middle class base that anything controlled by the government is bad and every phase should be operated by (FOR PROFIT COMPANIES) the for profit entities the cost to consumers is much higher because they have what's called executives who take massive packages of tens of millions of dollars and shareholders who expect to be paid a high yeild dividends and with our tax loopholes and subsidies they pay zero taxes under a social program of growing there business on the backs of taxpayers. (Republican socialism) But republicans love that socialism. So please every time you hear a republican use socialism as a means of spreading the wealth understand one thing it is a serious misconception. They love there socialism and democratic socialism is evil.

Republicans constantly want there middle class v**ers to believe social programs require tax money but you're taxes maybe higher. But as you can see everyone benefits because cost goes down you get to keep more of you're hard earned cash to invest in our economy. Buying homes, cars, that new washer dryer you need go out for dinner, buy a new lawn mower installed heating Air conditioner and so on. More expendable income in the hands of poor or middle class is a win for everybody.

Democratic socialism does not mean taking from the rich and giving to the poor. It works to the benefit of everyone. But republicans understand when playing to there base that fear mongering works in lieu of explaining actual facts. They just create a talking point that all socialism is bad. So republicans use crap like democrats are coming to take you're guns and that is a disgrace that you actually believe that BS because democrats own guns.

The t***h is this country has been for decades driven partially by socialism. In fact most republicans love socialism they just don't know its socialism.

So most republicans such as evangelicals believe in freedom loving capitalist that would not dare support evil socialism there words (PRAISE TO JESUS) by the way Republicans Jesus Christ was probably the most ultimate socialist in the history of mankind and got nailed to the cross fighting against Christian s***ery and the elite.

So you republicans want a capitalistic society of leaving everything to the private sector have you ever, driven on public roads, eaten food that did not make you sick, deposited money into a bank and not worry if someone robbed you're funds, visited a public library, collected SS, Medicare, Medicaid, called 911, untilized fire departments or medical assistance, received mail from the US postal service, bragged constantly about our military (REPUBLICANS HIDE FROM DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISM) how about taking a student loan, have you're garbage collected, used public t***sportation. Everything listed is in one way or another is paid for and subsidized by the government.

The evil democrats are such socialist do any of you know how our military became the most destructive and powerful human made k*****g machine in earths 4 billion year history. (BECAUSE WE SOCIALIZED THE HELL OUT OF IT) just saying also has the private sector taken advantage of these tax payer funds, did these military vendors make billions off the American tax payer. What would our military look like without socialism. Republicans brag constantly about our military and probably the most costly piece of socialism in this country and the billions made by the corporate elite. Capitalism working along with socialism. My problem is middle class pays the bill while the. Orporate elite take advantage of tax loopholes, and federal subsidies.

This BS about socialism started in this nation when that i***t Reagan created this trickle down economics which is just an elaborate con predicated on the redistribution of wealth from 98% of Americans to the top 2% along with Birtherism and from Reagan to Trump everything started to spiral out of control. Now thanks to republicans we turn on our TV and watch these GD Neo N**ies and white Supremist marching in our streets and a president that tells us they are good people.

Republicans constantly v**e for handouts to farmers, oil interest corporations, tax loopholes for corporations moving jobs overseas, tax loopholes for corporations taking there profits and moving to offshore accounts to avoid American taxes. But they have convinced there base and they call it subsidies or strategic investments and you believe this BS. It's socialism you must be blind.

At least democrats are more open as to the greater hypocrisy of republicans.

I was trying to buy a super bowl ticket to travel to a stadium that was 80% subsidized by my tax dollars. This stadium is my house I built it with my tax dollars but in steps the capitalist. They wanted $3,500 for a ticket for me to go into my house. Not to mention those capitalist charging 5 times the rate for a hotel room. Wow so socialism is fine when tax payers pay for the stadium the private sector makes billions so capitalism is great socialism is evil. Then in steps those corporate tax breaks (Socialism) then in steps the tax payers funding those roads to get to the stadium my tax dollars built (socialism). Police fire and medical personal socialism paid out of my tax dollars. Is it bad when capitalist and socialist work together because yes they are important to the economy of those areas that these stadiums are built it's a win win for everybody. So don't say one side called socialism is evil. Just make capitalist pay there fair share.

Without socialism and capitalist working together this nation would fail. It's tax payers that drive the economy but trying to explain that to an evangelical who's only interest is a******n, or an i***t red neck whose only interest is owning a gun and create a white society.

But now we listen to Trump through his tax reform it's loaded with socialism you can't recognize it.

How many years has the US Navy sailed the seas of the South Pacific, 100, 150, 200? In how many of those years have there been accidents? To be sure, there are almost always incidents at sea where Sailors are injured or even k**led, but there is rarely a spate of such catastrophic incidents as has been seen THIS year......in the same geographic location.

For a Naval vessel to be hit by another ship while underway, several things must happen at once, or rather, not happen. Navigation radar turned off or range improperly set, bridge crew asleep or goofing off, Deck watch asleep or goofing off, and CIC shut down, watch asleep or goofing off. That's a hell of a lot of coordinated screwing up, don't you think? What warship in the Fleet allows a massive ship to sneak up on it? I could envision maybe a single ship crewed entirely with screw-ups, but even that stretches my imagination, since subpar Officers are not given command of multibillion dollar hardware.

How much effort does it take to get out of the way of a large object that is moving towards you at a slow speed? The Naval vessels involved are capable of speeds many times higher than the fastest civilian tanker or freighter, so it would take a monumental series of f&ckups by multiple people for a collision to happen. I just find it hard to believe that we're suffering a massive outbreak of poor Seamanship all of a sudden, in the same general area, so .....let me post this theory:

Perhaps there's been a Bounty placed on US Naval vessels sailing on those seas. How much would it take to convince a low paid 3nd Mate on a crappy civilian vessel, to ram his ship into another ship, $10,000, $100,000 maybe $1,000,000? I seem to recall another super power is contesting right of passage in this area. It's name begins with a "C" and ends in an "A" with a "H, I, and N" in between. What better way to attack the US Navy and get away with it, than to use civilian vessels and make the attacks appear to be accidents? China, or any other Nation, knows that to use offensive military weapons against an US vessel would be an act of war, and no doubt result in the loss of expensive assets to boot, so a few million bucks thrown around is a damn good investment.

Sure, this sounds like another crazy conspiracy theory, and I'm the first to admit it, however, I cannot reconcile the facts ( as we know them ) with what I know about the Navy and the crews that man her Ships. I watched an Aircraft Carrier get stuck on a mud bar while attempting to get into port, an embarrassing incident for the Navy and a career ending screw-up for her Skipper - who decided to sail his ship himself, instead of allowing the Harbor Pilot to do so, which was against Naval regulations. I know that there are monumental screw-ups that happen, but only rarely, even more rarely in the same are - and never in a series. There are other ways for a nation to attack another nation without firing a shot. How much money do you suppose China has spent conscripting US citizens in it's industrial espionage efforts?

A ship who's engines are at idle does not come up to speed quickly, even turbine powered ships, as that's a lot of mass to get moving. What bridge officer would think that the approaching ship intends to ram him...........until it's too late to get out of the way? The photo's of the ships I've seen, clearly show that they were hit amidships nearly broadside, with little of the sheering one would expect to see if both vessels had been underway at any appreciable speed. That tells me that the Naval vessels were nearly dead in the water when they were hit, the naval vessels did NOT hit the other ships.............they just didn't get out of the way. That sounds more like intent to ram, rather than incompetence.
