Last year there were 11,078 such deaths. Many of us would definitely like a Surgeon General who is conscientious enough to not ignore those numbers nor treat them in a cavalier fashion.

President Obama should be applauded for his choice. Let's see how many senators are brave enough to stand up to the NRA bullying.

I would-n't waste any time waiting on CRAPITOL Hill Senators to challenge King Obama and his ideological minions, Surgeon-General or otherwise. A bigger gaggle of truly gutless wonders there never was, nor ever again will be.
Let's reestablish what we all know anyway: This is-n't about disease prevention OR gun control. It's about CONTROLLING YOU AND ME! It's strictly personal with this Regime. So-called civility is only for those who agree with THEIR myopic Weltanschaung. For the rest of us: control for it's own sake.

LOL! It's FUN when a quoted passage of God's Word causes His enemies to founder upon "the Rock of Offense!" Doubt me? Just start reading some of the replies to my "The FOOL has said in his heart" observation! They're predictably going NUTS! Not that they were-n't nuts before...Just sayin'!

If you've been reading any of the replies by Dr. Sowell's detractors here,....do you REALLY doubt the failure of our public education system? Or, do you still doubt what an atrocity giving the N.E.A. and the Federal Government monopolistic control OVER the education system really is? If so, then, back to school with you...And THIS TIME try a little homeschooling instead!

What MUST be understood here, is that, in the primitive, r****t, and intolerant world of (primarily white) liberalism, Codoleeza Rice--and, for that matter, ANY African-American--who DARES identify as a Conservative, or proves to be independent-minded IN ANY WAY at all, MUST be "put in their place." This is where the white liberal establishment, in rearing it's UGLY head, and trying to permanently silence someone of Ms. Rice's stature, reveals themselves to be the bigots they've always been since time immemorial!
Ms. Rice, Dr. Williams, Dr. Thomas Sowell, and others are shining examples of accomplished people who's shoes NO liberal miscreant in or, out of the ivory halls of academia, are worthy to tie, AND, TO A PERSON, THEY JOLLY-WELL KNOW IT! That's part of the reason liberals desperately wish to silence independent-minded African-Americans.
One other reason: B****s who can and do think for themselves (in the "minds" of liberals), constitute a THREAT to their established social order. They've worked hard, achieved what makes liberals envious, and owe NONE of the credit for their success to the white liberal plantation, known more prominently as the Socialist welfare state. THE NERVE!!!
And, this is precisely what brings us to angry white liberals, who now feel absolutely free to unload the very r****t expressions of intolerant bigotry that resides covertly in their hearts anyway--against African-Americans who dare to LEAVE the reservation that white liberals have long established for THEM to live on. So, OUT comes the vitriol against so-called "Uncle Toms," accusations of "acting uppity," et. al. ad nauseam. (and, MOSTLY ad nauseam!)
Fortunately for what's left of the Republic, people like Ms. Rice and Dr. Sowell, have long left such tiny
Marxists as these in their dust. They know very well that these expressions of bigotry will continue. Yet, they gallantly refuse to dignify it. Talk about PURE CLASS!!!

J.C. Penney’s Decline: What is going Unsaid
by David L. Goetsch

Mainstream media organs such as The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and USA Today are all concerned over the on-going decline of retail giant, J.C. Penney (JCP). The latest bad news for the once prosperous retailer is that dwindling sales are forcing it to slash 2,000 jobs and close 33 stores. JCP executives are blaming this latest step backwards on three factors: 1) The ill-advised business strategies of former CEO, Ron Johnson—particularly his decision to replace periodic mega-sales with what he called “everyday low prices,” 2) a persistently shaky economy, and 3) the growth of on-line shopping.

While there is no question that the three reasons given by JCP executives for the company’s continued decline are valid, there is an additional reason that is going unstated. In fact, it is being treated like the elephant in the board room that JCP executives are simply ignoring. That elephant in the board room is the serious damage done to JCP’s corporate image in the eyes of its middle-class customer base when former CEO Michael Francis decided to turn JCP’s nationwide marketing campaign for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day into a campaign on behalf of the same-sex marriage movement. JCP’s pro-homosexual marketing campaign was a slap in the face of many loyal JCP customers whose worldviews are anything but pro-same-sex marriage. It was at this point that JCP’s problems began in earnest.

Although the tepid economy, on-line shopping, and strategic missteps of Ron Johnson have played major roles in the decline of JCP, ignoring the values of a substantial portion of its customer base has also been a factor in the decline. When former CEO Michael Francis decided to make a statement about same-sex marriage and use the prestige of JCP to give his statement validity, he failed to anticipate the unintended consequences of his actions, actions that cost JCP investors millions of dollars and threatened to drive the company into bankruptcy.

In deciding to build a marketing campaign around the homosexual agenda, Francis must have thought, “With the support and approval of the mainstream media, how can I go wrong?” He can be forgiven for thinking that having the assistance of the mainstream media would be enough to ensure success in his effort to make a positive statement about same-sex marriage. After all, hadn’t same-sex marriage advocates established a successful track record of using the mainstream media to bludgeon opponents into supporting their agenda or at least not opposing it? Perhaps the mainstream media would have a similar level of influence on JCP’s customer base.

If this was the assumption of Michael Francis, he misjudged both his customers and the effect of the mainstream media has on them. He hired comedienne Ellen DeGeneris, a homosexual and same-sex marriage advocate, as the company’s national spokesperson. On Mother’s Day 2011, JCP shocked its customer base—many of whom still hold to traditional American values—with an intentionally provocative, same-sex marriage ad featuring a family with two “moms.” Then in spite of a tidal wave of protests from customers, the retail giant obstinately ran a similar ad on Father’s Day featuring a family with two “dads.” Francis quickly learned what happens when businesses ignore sound business practices in favor of political ideology.

Customer response to JCP’s in-your-face endorsement of same-sex marriage was hard for even the most ardent supporters of the issue to ignore. Following the controversial ads, the company posted a $163 million loss, saw its stock price drop by 8.8 percent, and endured a 10 percent decline in customer traffic. CEO Michael Francis was fired for ignoring a rule retailers learn in Business 101: Know your customer. JCP has always appealed to a fairly conservative, middle-American customer base. The store was founded on traditional America values, and a substantial portion of its customers still subscribe to those values. When JCP walked away from its founding values, customers who still subscribe to those values walked away from JCP.

New CEO, Ron Johnson, was brought in to fix the problem, but he quickly learned that his predecessor’s misguided support of same-sex marriage had left him with a larger than expected mountain to climb. Another t***h that every business leader must understand—and apparently Ron Johnson didn’t—is that when a business gets at odds with its customers, the disgruntled customers talk to friends and they, in turn, talk to friends and soon the “piling-on effect” comes into play. Ron Johnson did nothing to repair the damage done to JCP’s corporate image by the same-sex marriage marketing campaign that was the brain child of his predecessor. Now, he too is gone. But JCP executives still have not learned from the ill-fated experience of their two former CEOs. If the retail giant continues to ignore the elephant in the living room created by Francis, it problems will just continue and so will its decline.
J.C. Penney’s Decline: What is going Unsaid br by ... (show quote)

I speak ONLY for myself, of course. The LAST thing I would ever do is darken the door of retailers like J.C.Penney or Home Depot. These store chains are obviously very powerful (Well, maybe not so much Penney's anymore), and they are absolutely entitled to take wh**ever position they wish on ANY political or social issue.
As a conservative and a Christian, these values are, of course, alien to and against my own. And it's obvious that, as big, powerful retailers (with LOTS of clout on Crapitol Hill among liberal legislators), the very LAST THING IN THE WORLD they either need or want is my business!
So, far be it from me to be such a bore as to insist on them adopting my values. Also far be it from me to insist that they accept my BUSINESS, either! There are, after all LOTS of other retailers available, which carry anything Home Depot does, and LOADS more. (Lowe's comes to mind.) Same thing for J. C. Penney.
And, you-r'e absolutely right: With LOTS of on-line retailers selling anything I can buy at any of these places, I'm VERY independent of such folderal! As powerful retailers, J. C. Penney and Lowe's are also VERY independent of people like me! So, they'll have theirs, and we'll have ours, and all is well...At least until the Regime COMPELS us to buy everything from their favorite chain stores, but then, THAT'S another topic!...

Thank you for your prescient and insightful article. If I may, might I add a few historical analogies of my own? In the 1930's, it was Germany that was, indeed, a rather weak nation. Even though the economy was rebounding in the wake of a world-wide depression (one which began in Europe), Germany's military forces--for all the grand parades put on by Hitler--was deceptively weak. When German forces reoccupied the Rheinland in 1936, only a single REGIMENT was used! The reason? Hitler knew that if the Allied nations purposed to react militarily, there they could easily have crushed the supposed German juggernaut. He later admitted that if the French had sent forces in to stop his chicanery, "we should have been obliged to withdraw like dogs, with our tails between our legs!" During his Austrian Anschluss, similar dangers still hung over Hitler's actions, particularly if Mussolini--Hitler's future ally--had intervened! Still later, in 1938, Hitler once more relied on bluster and bluff to occupy first the Sudetenland, then later the rest of what was then Czechoslovakia. When, in 1939, Hitler sent an army to occupy Poland, he left barely seventeen divisions of static infantry to fend off any possible French opening of a second front. Had the French been determined to shut down Hitler's Polish Blitzkrieg, the N**is might have had a great deal of trouble! Yet, at EACH stage along the way, the would-be Allied powers (then primarily France, Great Britain, and--potentially the Soviet Union), rather than sensibly confronting this buffoonery, backed down and acquiesced to this bigoted, nationalistic animal-like behavior! Hence, Germany, with each success, became militarily stronger as well, until only the massed legions of Soviet, and, eventually American troops and aircraft even had a FIGHTING chance of putting paid to all this. Hitler saw his "dominoes" falling neatly into line. Annex Austria, and Czechoslovakia, with it's "Little Maginot Line," is c*********d. Remove Czechoslovakia, and Poland's southern flank is irretrievably c*********d. Remove Poland, while making a TEMPORARY alliance of convenience with the Soviets, no more threat of a two front war with the West! (albeit, also temporarily, as eventually became apparent) Putin possesses a similarly shrewd sense of strategic timing. And now, let us be frank: If Putin can slowly bring Ukraine back into Russia's orbit--whether by intimidation or direct occupation--WITHOUT any effective opposition (or even protest) from the West, he removes the MAIN domino to a Russian revanchist revival. After that, what former Soviet state would even have the capacity to resist even an otherwise greatly weakened "Mother Russia?" There can be little doubt that Putin sees himself as the "new Peter the Great," even as Hitler saw himself as Germany's new Frederic the Great! And, what great coalition of nations will ever suffice to stop Putin from realizing his twisted dreams of reconquest? Obama and the French? Obama and the Brits? You laugh, but, the problem is that PUTIN'S LAUGHING TOO! Ukraine will rue the day when, at the INSISTENCE of the elder Bush administration, it surrendered ALL of it's nuclear weapons to Russia! That was the ONE trump card that might have stopped Putin's dangerous chicanery. Russia WILL make nuisance of itself yet again, and the West will do nothing. Remember, when the Berlin Wall came down, there WAS NO Russian equivalent of a De-N**ification program to bring about any permanent change in Russian character, or long-term ambitions. Add to this long-term strategic picture a nascent Russian-Chinese alliance against the West, and,....OH MY!!! Thanks for your forbearance as I "unloaded" here. As you can see, since my computer does-n't have a crank on it (not technologically savvy here), I have-n't yet figured out how to start and end paragraphs with it. And. believe it or not, I USED TO know how to spell!

Thank you, Mr. Huggins. You've NAILED IT PERFECTLY! But, it is fair to point out that, the illustration you've used perhaps as a joke, will not long remain a joke. Fact is, this Regime is DEDICATED to destroying ALL personal freedoms, INCLUDING that of personal association. As such, it is nothing, if not a matter of time before your "Illustrating absurdity by BEING absurd" analogy (with apologies to Rush), becomes REALITY! And, as I'm sure you will readily appreciate, that's NO laughing matter...
