I have not heard from him since the storm, I guess communications would still be down.

I am not sure what part of the Philippines they were going to.

Perhaps I don't have enough information to even try to find out if they are OK.

Does anyone have any idea on how to go about finding out about their condition besides waiting to see if they make it back home in three or four weeks?

I read your post and thought if I had friends like yours, the only credible place I would try to find information on them would be here--->

This is a link to the Philipine Red Cross in Manilla. Hopefully they can tell you about your friends or steer you towards more information.

This is another, piss off, I've had, that has happened since I posted here the other day. Fri. a lady was sent to our shop by her husband to put brake pads on her Volvo. I mean she had absolutely no brakes. Her emergency brake did not even work. At our service center, when you come off the main road is a little incline. The 16 foot wide pull down door faces, toward the drive, she came down off the road. Want to know the rest. She comes in like a bat out of hell, ran right between the two auto lift post, destroyed a large standing lift fan, a gas wall propane heater, hit the back wall shelves, full of brake pads, plugs, oil, oil filers, bulbs Etc, destroyed the shelves and push the bottom back of the wall out. The worst, we have ever had before this, were years ago. A lady had parked her auto in front of the office. When she was ready to leave, she put her auto in reverse(she thought). She went forward, while looking out her review mirror, jump the cement guard and sandwich a big old standing drink box between her auto and the front wall. No we had not, worked on her auto. She was checking on cost, of the work and when, we could do it. Never got the chance to work on it. She traded the auto.
Thanks, I enjoyed your post

The woman you spoke of must have a relative living near my home. I was in the parking lot of a grocery store when I saw a woman start to back out of a space. She had only moved a couple inches when her cell phone rang. Instead of letting it ring and call the person back later or stopping her car and tell the person on the other end she will be right with them, she continued to back up. You know as well as I do that when you back up, your field of vision is limited. Add someone with a small brain and a cell phone and there's disaster in the making. Behind her there was a couple walking towards the store who had to scramble from being run over by this dim bulb.

It is people like this which has me repeating nearly every day, "I am waiting for the day when I can pick up a major publication where the headlines read, The U.S. Bureau of Statistics has determined there is a shortage of i***ts this year. Something tells me we may never see such a headline ever. In fact, the quality of stupidity has gone up over the last couple of decades."

Keep in mind if you scream at some of these boneheads, "Just how stupid can you be?", they take that as a challenge to show you how much more stupid in them there is yet to discover. It's a dirty shame being stupid isn't an Olympic event because I live around a few gold medal winners if it ever comes to pass.

Thanks for your post and reply! Have a sensational week!

OMG, You nailed a couple of my pet peeves, too! You can add being behind an i***t who thinks they can merge onto a freeway at 30 mph while traffic is cruising at 75 - 80 mph.

Or how about the twit that waits to the last six inches of ramp, turns on her signal, hits her brake and then merges over. Had she been paying attention or got off the cell phone, she would have realized you left an opening for her for the last half mile.

Then there's the bozo who sees you coming down the entrance ramp to the freeway, but thinks he owns it and refuses to make a way for you to blend in with traffic. This guy shows that courtesy is NOT contagious.

Do you just love driving behind some sweet young nymph who has her rear-view mirror turned so she can look at herself like a bird in a cage rather than the guy behind her who's trying to push her down the highway in a 55 mph zone while she can't go over 30?

Don't you just love those blithering i***ts who think just because they are making a right, they get to cut you off at a stop sign rather than take their turn in order?

One of my favorite things on the road is when we get about a half inch of snow on the grass - none on the road - and everyone acts as if they are trying to navigate in a foot of the white fluffy stuff on the road surface by going 3 mph. This is when I lose it. "This is Michigan, you i***t! Get the hell off the road!"

There has been a lot of talk about road rage, but they never mention those that cause it.

I may be an aggressive driver, but only when those around me act as if it's their first day on the road. I can't expect people to speed, but merely get out of the way if they are going too slow or speed up to the speed limit; While there's no shortage of i***ts like I mentioned above, I still try to be courteous to those around me and follow the rules of etiquette on the highway. I have often said, "I have no problem with ignorance - it's stupidity I have a problem with." The i***ts make driving a lot more dangerous and frustrating than it should be.

Lastly, I am going to buy a bumper sticker for my truck that reads, "Honk if you love Jesus. Text if you would like to meet Him right now."

The United States is flittering away its role as a model for the rest of the world. On the edge of destruction, many American's are losing faith in their country's future.

http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/divided-states-of-america-notes-on-the-decline-of-a-great-nation-a-865295.html

It's no secret the Europeans are more liberal than Americans. I didn't read the whole article due to limited time, but I can see the slant on the opinion already with phrases such as "fact that the sea level has been rising for years and the number of storms is increasing" - a direct relation to the g****l w*****g h**x and "The hatred of big government has reached a level in the United States that threatens the country's very existence" - coming from a socialist country. In other words, what is needed is MORE government and acceptance as our ruler rather than our servant, right?

While I agree there is a divide in this country along political lines, it has always been that way. Freedom of speech in the First Article was to guarantee free political speech. Even at the constitutional convention, the Framers weren't all holding hands and singing "Kumbya". To Europeans, this free political speech is very foreign to them, but that's just the way it is around here.

Personally, I don't "h**e" people on the Left and I'm sure nearly all conservatives agree they don't h**e the Left either. It's their failed policies; Progressive social engineering to re-define right and wrong; the busy-body state which tries to control every aspect of your life; the corruption at the highest levels without accountability; the blaming of America for the world's problems while being able to form human shields for tyrants and murderers; the splintering of society by lumping citizens into special groups such as black, Latino, the wealthy and poor, men and women, and so one rather than simply referring to us as Americans; their support of the Democrat Welfare State which has robbed millions of their dignity and the futures of generations by getting them addicted to handouts at taxpayer expense; high taxation with corruption and questionable return on taxpayer money; and more. It is akin to "love the sinner, but h**e the sin."

Beyond political divide, there are a few other divides such as givers and takers, the free and controlled, informed and indoctrinated, the engaged and the apathetic, and those of godly faith and those who seek to destroy it.

Yes, we are divided, but not to the point there's no hope in sight for the future. People like me want our fellow citizens to wake up to what is going on around them. Educate yourself. Get involved in the political process. Watch what tripe your kids are being handed as the gospel t***h in school. Question authority. Study history and our founding. Realize it is freedom that made this country great and not the good graces of Big Government. President Reagan described these people perfectly, "Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn’t so." Today, too many are ignorant, indoctrinated or apathetic.

My point is if this country has a rebirth of the American spirit where personal responsibility, hard work, independence, honor and faith are restored, this country's finest days lie ahead. If not, there may not be enough teats on the government sow to save all of us in the future.

We do not have a Left in the US.
Clinton, Kerry and Obama are practitioners of 3rd way, neo-liberalism (not to be confused with classic democratic capitalist neo-liberalism which includes most of you conservatives actually).
The Democratic Party 3rd way movement has typically labeled "Clintonite" as he was it's most notable and successful proponent. It essentially borrows a pro business, pro market approach from the right and marries it to light liberalism. Usually this means acceding to demands of labor and environmentalists. However, the goal of clintonite neoliberalism is economic growth, not progressive t***sformation. So any labor, environmental or other liberal causes are SECONDARY to the primary goal of growth.

As for actual Left parties. We have C*******t Party USA, which in typical C*******t fashion has been run by one person, Bob Avakian, for decades.
There are socialist parties as well, however neither the CP nor any of the little baby socialist parties ever do anything beyond sell T shirts and books. They are as marginal as Lyndon Larouche.

Face it, we have a Far Right and a Moderate Right.
The Democrats are surely to the Left of the GOP but are not a Left party at all.
one more time. br We do not have a Left in the US... (show quote)

We will have to agree to disagree on this issue.

According to Alan West, there are about 80 Democrat members in Congress who are c*******ts; according to author Trevor Loudon, that number is more than 100. The reason they can't come clean with their real identities is because most Americans would not v**e for an avowed c*******t, so they hide this fact from the public. "If it walks and talks like a duck...".

Democrats are notorious for asking the "Bureau of Euphemisms" to re-name things people normally wouldn't accept. They are now called "Progressives" because everyone likes progress, don't they? And for the Republicans, if they're not progressive, then by default they must be against progress or regressive and that's bad, right? Taxes are "contributions" or "getting the wealthy to pay their fair share" even though they pay the lion's share of income taxes already. K*****g a baby inside the mother for nothing more than convenience is called "a women's health issue"; I*****l a***ns are "undocumented Americans"; Interfering with a parent's discipline of their unruly child is "standing up for children's rights" and so on.

The description you gave to the Clintonian brand of rule is actually what a Rockefeller Republican is - fiscally conservative and socially liberal. It has been around a long time and in most grassroots circles, they are called RINOs.

Your description of the Right has taken on some poetic license. If you look at the political spectrum, on the far left side you have c*******ts, Marxists and tyrannical rulers. There's no liberty at all and the state owns or controls all the property;

On the far right side you have NO government. It's like the days of the Wild West where the only law or government was the gun on your hip. Basically, this is anarchy and it may seem like people are free, but when you have to carry everything with you to guard it from thieves, then you actually don't have freedom.

Our Framers tried to place the political stance somewhere in the middle. From time to time the pendulum swings one way or the other, but not too much. Here is where nearly all conservatives are or what you call "the Far Right". Conservatives want individual freedom in an ordered society; They want less government interference in their lives and business; they want a limited, accountable government; they also realize they have the right and duty to change things from time to time as need be through legal, established means. The reason you see this as the Far Right is because the country as a whole has shifted to the Left - far enough to where the Framers would be disgusted and angry. Like it or not, Conservatives reside in the middle of what this country was founded on.

You may or may not agree with my perspective and that is fine - so be it. Having a different point of view is not evil or destructive and being able to discuss as adults this is very much American as Mom and apple pie.

Have a pleasant day.

You and I are on the same page. Critical thinking in school is not encouraged as students are taught what to think too many times. That's how you can pose this question to a high school grad, "What are the Bill of Rights?" and he replies, "I don't know. They're about $100, right?"

Here's something else to consider and pass along to your kids: You are looking out your front window and see a little girl walking down the sidewalk with a huge German Shepard. She turns to the dog and says, "Sit!" and the dog sits. She then says, "Lie down!" and the dog lies down on the sidewalk. She pats the dog on the head and says, "You're a good boy" and reaches into her little purse, whips out a dog cookie and gives it to him.

Now consider the above scene. If that dog wanted to, he could k**l her in less than a minute. However, there's one thing that dog knows and that's the little girl is millions of times smarter than he'll ever be and with her mind, she controls him. My point is, if you allow others to spoon-feed you information without ever checking up on their facts or challenging them on what they have told you, they control you.

To underscore the above story, we have all been told about the constitutional separation of church and state in the media and in school. Okay, which article in the Constitution does the separation of church and state appear? The First Amendment maybe? The t***h is those words never appear anywhere in the Constitution. Now consider how many millions of our own citizens believe that phrase is indeed in the document. You can be sure NONE of them ever read the Constitution, but rather had someone tell them what the document says and interpreted it for them. Now multiply this many thousands of times by omitting or revising history and you can see why there's an erosion of our liberties without so much as a whimper. It's all about control and your freedom. Knowledge and wisdom are indeed power.

You are doing a great service to your kids by making them think. I highly encourage it and hoped it catches on across the country! :)

Do you see us succeeding anywhere?

I have a way of greatly reducing expenditures, but no one will listen in Washington. As it stands right now, every department spends every last cent so their budget isn't cut for next fiscal year. The expense and debt is k*****g us.

My approach is to incentivize savings. If you manage a department and it saves taxpayers' money, you and all your employees get a portion of the savings similar to a profit sharing plan. Now the paradigm is switched from blowing taxpayer's money to saving it because some of it goes in your wallet. We can accept anything to save money from reducing paperwork, reducing programs which another department already runs to reducing manpower and saving money by shopping for supplies and services for the best deal.

The only drawback is I want this to be SAVINGS and not another means to blow the money on something else.

I suppose this simply makes too much sense for it to work in Washington.

Wow! You're absolutely right - if you stop feeding something it will turn on you. Can you imagine the unrest of the Federal and state governments placed a lifetime cap on the length of time you can be on welfare? I knew this whole scene was a set-up when I heard the term, "Welfare rights Advocate". Who has the right to the money and property YOU earned?

Welfare DOES have its price, but not in dollars, but in lives. For those on the Democrat Welfare Plantation, you have to live amidst of crime, blight, deplorable schools, drugs, gangs, high unemployment, illegitimacy, graduation rates of 25%, murder, arson, broken homes, no future for your children, corruption and more. Apparently such a life isn't all that bad as society has witnessed second- and third- generations of welfare dependents. Nothing will change until the people decide they want a better life for their kids and are willing to make the change in their own lives to make it happen.

Have a great weekend and keep smiling - you'll ruin some old grouch's day! :D
