How to find friend in Philippines
Nov 11, 2013 07:53:08   #

My neighbor is married to a Philippine woman. They left October the 15th to go see her kin folks for six weeks.

I have not heard from him since the storm, I guess communications would still be down.

I am not sure what part of the Philippines they were going to.

Perhaps I don't have enough information to even try to find out if they are OK.

Does anyone have any idea on how to go about finding out about their condition besides waiting to see if they make it back home in three or four weeks?

I read your post and thought if I had friends like yours, the only credible place I would try to find information on them would be here--->

http://www.redcross.org.ph/manila.php

This is a link to the Philipine Red Cross in Manilla. Hopefully they can tell you about your friends or steer you towards more information.

If any one is interested. I finally heard from my friend. He said they were all fine. Mentioned the bad luck they had. The day they landed there was an earthquake. Then they went to Akland Island and the Typhoon turned and they had a direct hit.

Today is the first day of internet service. All communications were wiped out. Perhaps more people will now get news of their loved ones.

I am glad to hear they are all right.

Tell me, did you contact the Red Cross? If so, were they helpful or was it a waste of time? I ask because if it turns out to be a flop, I won't recommend doing it again.

Have a fabulous Friday!

I just sent an Email to them on that sight you gave me. I figured the scale of devastation they were probably covered up. I did not try to call the number.

I guess I should have added that I have not heard back from the Red Cross as of yet.

Thank you for your replies. One of the reasons I am curious how the Red Cross works is we were told if there's an emergency here and we needed to get a hold of him ASAP, call the Red Cross (he's in the USAF). From what you have told me, in the event of an emergency, we would be better off sending smoke signals. The Red Cross may be all right for donating blood, but in the event of a disaster, I would send my donation to the Salvation Army.

Have a great weekend!
