V**er frustration with government hits critical mass

(Washington Post) – Residents in a conservative northern Colorado county will v**e this November on whether to secede and create a new state, after a local commission on Monday approved b****t language backed by tea party activists.

The Weld County Commission unanimously approved the resolution’s language, which reads: “Shall the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, in concert with the county commissioners of other Colorado counties, pursue becoming the 51st state of the United States of America?”

Weld County is one of ten rural counties where activists have held meetings about seceding from Colorado. The activists started pushing for the meetings after this year’s legislative session, when Democrats who control the Colorado legislature passed new laws regulating firearms and oil exploration. The new measures, conservatives believe, are the latest steps taken by an overbearing legislature that’s Denver-centric, to the exclusion of the state’s rural areas.

Several county commissions have held public meetings on the topic since activists started bringing up the idea; the Weld County commission held four meetings before their v**e on Monday.

“The concerns of rural Coloradans have been ignored for years,” commission chairman William Garcia said in a statement. “The last session was the straw that broke the camel’s back for many people. They want change. They want to be heard. Policies being passed by the legislature in Denver are having negative impacts on the lives of rural Coloradans. This isn’t an ‘R’ versus ‘D’ issue; it’s much bigger than that.”

Of the ten counties that have had discussions about forming a 51st state — Cheyenne, Kit Carson, Lincoln, Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington, Weld and Yuma — nine gave Republican p**********l nominee Mitt Romney more than 62 percent of the v**e. (In fact five of them gave Romney three quarters of the v**e or more). Weld County went for Romney by the relatively slim margin of 55 percent to 42 percent.

The Colorado legislature and the U.S. Congress would have to ratify the notion. But it’s not unheard of: West Virginia, Maine, Vermont and Kentucky were all once a part of other states before breaking off to form their own governments.

Quid Pro Quo, bmac32: The House issues articles of Impeachment, and the Senate tries the case. In my opinion your Senator is just giving you an excuse and taking the easy road out. With the dims controlling the Senate, the probability is the Senate would not remove OIllegal from office. But that is not excuse for not doing the right thing. The House ought to Impeach and force the democrat Senators from red states to v**e to keep OIllegal in office, and then have to face the v**ers in the next mid term e******ns in those red states. Tell your Representative to support Impeachment in the House and you Senator to buck up and get a back bone if the House Impeaches and it goes to the Senate. Just sayin my opinion.

BTW, my American Heritage Dictionary defines wahine as "a woman" Says its Hawaiian or Maori. My massive Oxford English dictionary defines it as 1 "A Maori woman or wife", 2 "In Polynesia = vahine", 3 "A girl surfer. slang". I use it as another word for woman. When I was 17, my dry fly trout fishin buddy who's father was a great dry fly trout fisherman and wit, used the terms wahine and Kootenai together, so I always thought wahine was a woman of the Kootenai tribe in the Bitteroot Mounmtain range of northwest Montana. Recently I wanted to use the word wahine on 1PP and wasn't sure how to spell it, so I looked it up in my American Heritage Dictionary and found out after all these years that it was Hawaiian or Maori not an Indian Kootenai name for women. You're never too old to learn.
