Arch,

I used to have a mouth like a pirate. One day the thought came to my mind, Do I talk like this in front of my Mother? It became clear to me that if I am able to control my mouth around her I can do the same at all times.

Where it really became evident was by two discoveries: First, the Bible says one of the fruits of the spirit listed in Galatians 5:22 is self-control. So we as Christians have the ability to control ourselves.

Secondly: There was a group of Christian carpenters that built a house for us many years ago. I would go and check on their progress from time to time. I noticed one thing, their language. When they missed a lick with a hammer or made a bad cut etc.. Instead of cussing they, to a man, would say praise the Lord. I mentioned it to the foreman, he said, we have discovered it is just as easy to say praise the Lord as it is to take His name in vain or some other foul language.

Not saying it is easy, new habits are as difficult to form as old habits are to quit But remember my friend, We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

You ask is it sinful? I had a pastor who greatly influenced my life. He had a saying that I have always tried to run through questions I face. He always said, "When in doubt, Don't."

1) confess . . . 'homo logeo' . . say the same thing God says about our sin
a) It separates us from fellowship with Him (not a loss of salvation)
b) Christ ALREADY paid for it at the cross and understand there is nothing you can add to or detract from that Redemptive Act.
c) Stop doing it! You're filled with the Holy Spirit. You're no longer a bond-s***e to sin.

It takes practice, but regular intake of Bible doctrine helps as does ongoing prayer, to praise Him and present your burdens to Him. When you realize your language is sinful, make a point to memorize Scripture that have healing or rebuke for that besetting sin. I think I'd start with James on that one. He states a fountain cannot give forth good water and bad. Here is what he says about or tongues in
James, chpt 3:10 The Tongue Is a Fire, Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment. 2 For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well. 3 Now if we put the bits into the horses’ mouths so that they will obey us, we direct their entire body as well. 4 Look at the ships also, though they are so great and are driven by strong winds, are still directed by a very small rudder wherever the inclination of the pilot desires. 5 So also the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things. See how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire! 6 And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell. 7 For every species of beasts and birds, of reptiles and creatures of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by the human race. 8 But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God; 10 from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be this way. 11 Does a fountain send out from the same opening both fresh and bitter water? 12 Can a fig tree, my brethren, produce olives, or a vine produce figs? Nor can salt water produce fresh.'

I hope this helps. Iliamna

I agree with your post. First Christians need to learn to confess their mental sins(lust, anger, jealousy), the sins of speech like gossip and lying, and of course, sins of commission (like c***ting on a test or taxes). Next, the born-again Christian needs to reckon himself dead to sin and walk by the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. This is a very short summation of how Christians should walk.

OH MY GOSH! We've agreed on something AGAIN! ! ! I hope you had a fine July 4th with your loved ones. Iliamna

Cain and Abel is a literal testament about how to get away with murder, - invent a good story, - if Cain and Abel were really the beginning and God's Prophets were telling how it happened, why wasn't Cain and Able mentioned in the first Monotheistic Religion Zoroastrianism, actually I'm the only person that has ever lived that knows all about those particular events, how the beginning t***spired, because I was there.

I don't expect you to believe that, however I will explain the reason why I don't expect you to believe that on Quora I'm Terry Loder on Quora better hitch up my waggon and get over there and start explaining.

Pelosi isn't going to start a Revolution she's already in control so the guns you're referring too must be for a revolution, good luck with that, it's inadvisable.

The Constitution should be Amended to keep up with changes, but agreement could never be reached, so the next best thing is to ignore it, the problem causing all the arguments over there is cause by free money going to privliged people not free stuff like benefits, free money comes from the $ being 61% of the World Reserves held by foreign Nations, for foreign Governments to get that incredible amount of USD's the US Current Account has to be always in deficit so the $'s can be processed out into their hands, this is why guns are in such high demand, an intuitive need to be protecting privlige.

PS I don't know if Karen Armstrong would admit to being an Atheist or Agnostic that's just my impression, I apologize for saying that.

We need to start with taking all the computers (except when supervised) and personal cell phones from the children until the age of 18. They'd have to learn to talk and play outside with others. I'm s**k of seeing children at the dinner table texting , texting, and texting. It is so rude. Mainly those messages consist of what are you doing, where are you. Duh! They need to learn to engage in conversation with the people they're dining with..

[quote=Blade_Runner]Must be a truly painful experience for you to see our president's name on a gun, and I suppose you think it is the only one out there.

American gun manufacturers have produced a long line of commemorative firearms - pistols, rifles, and shot guns - to honor a wide range of people, places and things. They enjoy honoring people of note who are staunch supporters of our 2nd Amendment.

As you can see, the Chicago cops found one of many.

While the gun is old, my step-father owns an old front-loader with a rattle snake and the words "Don't tread on me." It was his grandfather's and went back several generations.

I really believe that all government workers should HAVE to be on Medicare, from the lowliest maid right up through the judiciary, House, Senate, and Presidency, regardless of party affiliation. And this should include their dependents. Then, maybe the mess perpetuated on the citizenry would get cleaned up.

I'm now 71 years old and don't give a rats a$$ about what Clinton did with Lewdinski. What woman show her new longerie to a married man? One who has her claws out for him. They were both as guilty as sin. I v**ed for Trump last time around, but this I plan not to v**e for Trump. He's proven himself arrogant and to a smaller part than the Democrats, is responsible for the growing p******c. He's taken rotten advice from Faucci and others. I can't v**e for that doddering buffoon Biden. I worked as a nurse too many years to not recognize cognitive decline. The man looks unhealthy. Also there's his past record of v****g on which he's flip-flopped and as a senator, he's never sponsored anything of importance. And there's that mess with his son about the Ukraine. Nope, not going to v**e for either. IF I did v**e, it would be for Trump, but I'd have to wear a clothes-pin while I did It. He's less corrupted than Biden (yet).
