Never ever give in...
Thursday, July 9, 2020

On October 29, 1941, a year after one of the darkest hours of World War II for Great Britain, Prime Minister Winston Churchill addressed his alma mater Harrow School.

Here emerged one of the most famous quotes (which oft has been misquoted): “Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

This quote will hopefully embolden you, encourage you, strengthen you as it did to Brits and their allies as they fought one of the gravest evils to darken the steps of mankind. Evil never changes, it just finds more ways.

We are repeatedly instructed by God’s word to overcome evil with good. There is so much evil in our society and around the world. Much of what we read, see and hear seems to be surreal in that it is glorifying the evil and calling the good evil.

My wife and I were watching a television program the other night and just the advertisements coming on the screen were so dark. They depict crime, murder, horror, death, destruction, sex, homosexuality, infidelity, r*******n, covetousness, and worse. We remarked to each other almost at the same time how dark prime time television has become. Much of these things are glorified through some sort of twisted sense of justice or even humor.

There is a moral war that is being conducted against that which is good. It has its roots in Satan. But Satan has no power unless people give him legal entry--which much of society has.

We need to guard our hearts. We need to protect our families. We need to stand in the gap as examples and not yield to this 21st Century brand of morality. When these examples of evil come before us, we should point them out. Use them to educate others about discernment and right thinking.

We need to be proactive with ourselves to ensure that Satan’s battlefield, our minds, are focused on the good thoughts of God. We need to be leaders for what is right and good in our families and with our friends.
We must be willing to stand. We must not give in. Psalm 94:16-17 says, “Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity? Unless the Lord had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.”

Let us be silent no more. Let us be stronger than those who usurp the will of the people and are drunk on their own power. As Ephesians 6:12-13 says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Never give in.
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

I agree with your post. First Christians need to learn to confess their mental sins(lust, anger, jealousy), the sins of speech like gossip and lying, and of course, sins of commission (like c***ting on a test or taxes). Next, the born-again Christian needs to reckon himself dead to sin and walk by the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. This is a very short summation of how Christians should walk.

I agree with what you say, but here is one that I wrassel with.
When working alone, and I realize I have made a mistake, I use foul language directed at myself. The F word.
I work hard to not have those feelings for others, and use that sort of language with them, but is it sinful to use that language in my mind?

Many good points. If we don't stand up and push back now, when? When it is to late?

1) confess . . . 'homo logeo' . . say the same thing God says about our sin
a) It separates us from fellowship with Him (not a loss of salvation)
b) Christ ALREADY paid for it at the cross and understand there is nothing you can add to or detract from that Redemptive Act.
c) Stop doing it! You're filled with the Holy Spirit. You're no longer a bond-s***e to sin.

It takes practice, but regular intake of Bible doctrine helps as does ongoing prayer, to praise Him and present your burdens to Him. When you realize your language is sinful, make a point to memorize Scripture that have healing or rebuke for that besetting sin. I think I'd start with James on that one. He states a fountain cannot give forth good water and bad. Here is what he says about or tongues in
James, chpt 3:10 The Tongue Is a Fire, Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment. 2 For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well. 3 Now if we put the bits into the horses’ mouths so that they will obey us, we direct their entire body as well. 4 Look at the ships also, though they are so great and are driven by strong winds, are still directed by a very small rudder wherever the inclination of the pilot desires. 5 So also the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things. See how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire! 6 And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell. 7 For every species of beasts and birds, of reptiles and creatures of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by the human race. 8 But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God; 10 from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be this way. 11 Does a fountain send out from the same opening both fresh and bitter water? 12 Can a fig tree, my brethren, produce olives, or a vine produce figs? Nor can salt water produce fresh.'

I hope this helps. Iliamna

Arch,

I used to have a mouth like a pirate. One day the thought came to my mind, Do I talk like this in front of my Mother? It became clear to me that if I am able to control my mouth around her I can do the same at all times.

Where it really became evident was by two discoveries: First, the Bible says one of the fruits of the spirit listed in Galatians 5:22 is self-control. So we as Christians have the ability to control ourselves.

Secondly: There was a group of Christian carpenters that built a house for us many years ago. I would go and check on their progress from time to time. I noticed one thing, their language. When they missed a lick with a hammer or made a bad cut etc.. Instead of cussing they, to a man, would say praise the Lord. I mentioned it to the foreman, he said, we have discovered it is just as easy to say praise the Lord as it is to take His name in vain or some other foul language.

Not saying it is easy, new habits are as difficult to form as old habits are to quit But remember my friend, We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

You ask is it sinful? I had a pastor who greatly influenced my life. He had a saying that I have always tried to run through questions I face. He always said, "When in doubt, Don't."
