I frequently get posts by email requesting that I donate money to a candidate, a party, or an organization. Many are groups to which I might happily make a donation. However, they all ask for me to give my charge card number as well as name, address, town and other information. I NEVER give my charge card number to anyone unless I specifically told them that I wanted to make a donation and requested that they let me know which charge card I would be using. Even if the product looks like something I would like or the organization asking for money sounds like a worthwhile one, I do not ever give out my charge card number unless I know the company and I solicited the conversation, not them. Why can't who ever it is also include a mailing address where I can send a check. That way the most I will loose is the amount of the check.
Am I the only one who responds that way or there other people who do to?

I think you are absolutely correct! Once they have all that info, they will SELL it and you will be inundated with requests from everything under the sun & every politician running! Search out your local campaign office and donate in person, don't even show them your address or phone # on a check as they will copy it!

Six years ago I made a donation and am still getting requests even though I have tried to put them on spam lists!

I never contribute to a group that solicits contribution by phone or online. I decide what organizations I wish to support and contact them. The other thing that I do is hand a couple of bucks to people I cross paths with who live on the street. A cold beer, a cup of coffee or a sandwich to someone with nothing without questioning their place in the world is as much a charitable act as any.

And I'd be willing to bet that the #1 group you contribute to is the C*******t Party USA.

As for charitable giving maybe you should read Scripture:

[Jesus said:] "So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you." Matthew 6:2-4

Actually I give most to a conservative outfit, the Salvation Army beyond that a couple bucks to the down and out when they ask.

There usually is a return email address that you can send a request to for an address of the campaign. Or just do a search of the candidate for their campaign home page. I have one credit card that I use specifically for donations only and I've never had a problem. My other credit cards stay out of the fracas. Even the solicitations I receive by mail I complete the credit card portion if I choose to donate because there is more recourse to get you money back than when you write a check which is just like giving cash. You have no way to get it back once it is out of your hands when you write a check. I also don't discuss my donations, and how much I give, with anyone.

I agree. I get so many messages from all kinds of political entities. Lots from Republicans in both houses as well as from the Trump organization. As far as Im concerned I don't even respond to those. I will not give my Credit Card info to anyone. Seriously, who knows who is sending those requests? I don't.

I do the same Kevyn. If I decide to give a little to someone its really not my place to ask what or how they got into their situation. As a matter of fact every Thanksgiving I purchase a local grocery store gift card and wander around the place until my gut feelings tell me that that's the person or family I need to give to. Heck they may in a better place financially then I am but that's really not the point now is it.

Salvation Army is an excellent organization that uses very very little of what it receives for administrative purposes. Over 90% of the donations go to people in need. I once talked to the Major in charge of Salvation San Diego. This was about 15 years ago and back then he received an annual salary of $11,000 and a very spartan room to live in, compared to some of the CEOs of the Red Cross or United Way who earn several hundred thousand dollars per year. I doubt much has changed since then. Perhaps the Salvation Army provides him with a car and little else. They almost live like a monk in a monastery with a vow of poverty. My Aunt was a Nurse and a Sister of the Episcopalian Church, and she lived a very spartan lifestyle. Basic needs were provided and little else. It's a calling to serve. Something politicians should take to heart instead of using political office to enrich themselves.

The local independant grocery stores around here have $5.00 bags that you can buy and they will put an approved list of things that totally at least $5.00 in the bag that a customer has bought and give it to the ndy person or the gradeschool where most of the kids have mothers who need help. That only works in the boonies where every one know every one else. We have been here 20 years and are still referred to as "the new people up the hollow."
