https://www.politicususa.com/2018/11/18/the-california-republican-party-is-now-dead.html

The California Republican Party is now dead. The most recent evidence of this appeared last night as California Democrats completed their sweep of the congressional delegation in Orange County. Democrat Gil Cisneros defeated Young Kim, a Republican, to capture a fourth seat in a county that had once been one of the most conservative in the nation.
With Cisneros’s victory, Democrats now control all House seats in Orange County — the birthplace of Richard M. Nixon, the John Birch Society, and modern-day conservatism.

The victory by Cisneros, a philanthropist, was declared by The Associated Press. It completes what was a clear Democratic rout in California this year. Democrats set out to capture seven Republican-held seats where Hillary Clinton defeated President Trump in 2016, including all four in Orange County. They won six of them.

And now there is a growing chorus of GOP activists who say there is just one hope for reviving the California Republican Party: Blow it up and start over again from scratch.
Republicans now must deal with the aftermath of the damage from the devastation of a “blue tsunami” in California which not only wiped out six GOP-held House seats but also gave every statewide seat and a super-majority to the Democrats in both houses of the state legislature. The Democratic candidate for governor, Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, easily turned back a Republican challenge.
“I believe that the party has to die before it can be rebuilt. And by die — I mean, completely decimated. And I think Tuesday night was a big step,’’ says veteran California GOP political consultant Mike Madrid. “There is no message. There is no messenger. There is no money. And there is no infrastructure.”
Before this e******n, the 53-member California congressional delegation included 39 Democrats and 14 Republicans. It now appears that after this year’s midterms it will be 45 Democrats and eight Republicans.
Republicans hit another low point this week with the defeat of Southern California Assemblyman Dante Acosta, the last GOP Latino legislator. This is a real problem since in California Latinos comprise the fastest-growing group of v**ers.

https://www.politicususa.com/2018/11/18/republicans-are-playing-dirty-to-reduce-democrats-power.html

Republicans in several states are attempting to rush through last-ditch laws that would take away power from Democratic governors. At the time time, they seek to pass lame-duck laws to advance their own right-wing agendas.

In Michigan, for example, the GOP has held power for nearly eight years. The new governor and other state elected officials will all be Democrats next year. So Republican legislators are trying to water down a minimum wage law so that it would not go to v**ers.
In Wisconsin, Republicans are making a list of ways they can dilute the power of incoming Democratic governor Tony Evers. He will take over for GOP Governor Scott Walker in January.
And in North Carolina, Republicans are trying to finalize the details of a new v**er identification constitutional amendment that would make it more difficult for minorities to v**e. They are trying to rush through the bill before they lose their legislative supermajorities which give them the power to unilaterally override vetoes by Democratic Governor Roy Cooper.
Republicans of course say they are playing fair. They defend their tactics and say that Democrats have done the same thing.
This is not strictly true, however, and some of the steps Republicans are taking will probably be challenged in court. Democratic critics say these underhanded maneuvers undermine the will of the people who v**ed for change in this year’s e******ns.
“It’s something that smacks every Michigan v**er in the face and tells them that this Republican Party doesn’t care about their voice, their perspective,” House Democratic Leader Sam Singh said.

The GOP moves are taking place following midterm e******ns in which Democrats swept statewide offices in Michigan and Wisconsin for the first time in decades.
Due to gerrymandering, however, they were not able to take over the state legislatures. As a result, Republicans are able pass laws now to lock in new policies and Democrats will be unable to undo them until they take control of the legislatures.
Michigan’s new minimum wage and sick time laws are two things the GOP lawmakers plan to change before the new Democratic governor, Gretchen Whitmer, takes over. Michigan’s minimum wages are the highest in the Midwest.
Wisconsin Republicans are considering several ways to protect laws enacted by Walker . Those include limiting Evers’ ability to make appointments, restricting his authority over the rule-making process and making it more difficult for him to block a work requirement for Medicaid recipients.
In North Carolina, GOP legislators are planning to use the lame-duck session to put in a new v**er photo ID requirement and to consider other legislation that the Democratic governor would be powerless to stop right now. The have been attempting to reduce Cooper’s powers for two years, and he won a lawsuit challenging a law passed by Republicans that reduced his role in managing e******ns.
All over the country the pattern is clear. As duly-elected Democrats are ready to take power in state governments, Republicans currently in power are playing dirty and using every underhanded trick they can think of to stifle the will of the v**ers who put Democrats in office. This proves once again that Republicans do not truly believe in democracy, and are willing to do anything to undermine it, if it suits their needs and advances their right-wing agendas.

https://www.politicususa.com/2018/11/18/as-mueller-prepares-to-pounce-trump-gives-himself-an-a-as-president.html

Special Counsel Robert Mueller is preparing to unleash more indictments, but Trump gave himself a grade of A+ as president.
Trump said on Fox News Sunday, “I think I’m doing a great job. We have the best economy we’ve ever had. We’re doing really well. We would have been at war with North Korea if, let’s say, that administration continued forward. I would give myself, I would – look, I h**e to do it, but I will do it, I would give myself an A+, is that enough? Can I go higher than that?”

By no historical metric is Trump an A+ president
There are many components to a presidency that Trump has shown zero interest in. Trump has failed every single leadership test. He has governed like a reality television star who has no clue what he is doing. Trump has no legislative agenda. He just got slaughtered in the midterm e******ns, and his administration may go down in history as the most corrupt in nearly 100 years.
Trump can try to convince himself and his followers that he is an A+ president, but he is closer to an F than an A.
Robert Mueller is coming with more indictments soon, but Donald Trump is off in fantasy land thinking that he is doing a great job. One of the biggest problems in the country right now is that it is being run by a man with no attachment to reality.
The Special Counsel’s next wave of indictments is going to prove that the only metric where Trump is elite is on the measurement of p**********l corruption and crime.

Trump said that he has been too busy to do his job as commander in chief and go visit the troops that are stationed overseas.
Trump said when asked about visiting the troops, “Well, I think you will see that happen. There are things that are being planned. We don’t want to talk about it because of, obviously, because of security reasons and everything else. … I’ve had an unbelievable busy schedule, and I will be doing it. On top of which you have these phony witch hunts. On top of which — I mean, we’ve just been very busy. But I will be doing that.”

https://www.politicususa.com/2018/11/18/trump-says-he-wont-stop-whitaker-if-he-moves-to-curtail-mueller.html

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Donald Trump said in an interview aired on Sunday he would not intervene if Matthew Whitaker, his acting U.S. attorney general, moved to curtail Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 p**********l e******n.

In an interview with the “Fox News Sunday” program taped on Friday, Trump also said he probably would not agree to a sit-down interview with Mueller, who also is investigating whether the Republican president’s campaign conspired with Moscow and whether Trump has unlawfully sought to obstruct the probe.

Whitaker took over supervision of Mueller’s investigation on Nov. 7 after Trump appointed him as the chief U.S. law enforcement official to replace Jeff Sessions, who the president ousted. Whitaker, who Democrats have called a Trump “political lackey,” in the past criticized the scope of the Mueller probe and brought up the possibility of undermining it by slashing Mueller’s funding.
Trump, in the interview, said he was unaware of Whitaker’s past statements about Mueller’s probe and that he would “not get involved” if Whitaker moved to curtail it.
“It’s going to be up to him,” Trump told “Fox News Sunday” interviewer Chris Wallace. “I think he’s very well aware politically. I think he’s astute politically. … He’s going to do what’s right.”
Trump has denied any collusion with Moscow and has called the Mueller investigation a “witch hunt.” Russia also has denied collusion.
“There is no collusion, he happened to be right,” Trump said, referring to one of Whitaker’s previous statements.
Mueller has brought charges against a series of former Trump aides, including his former campaign chairman and his former national security adviser, as well as a number of Russian individuals and entities. Congressional critics have voiced concern that Whitaker could hamper or even fire Mueller.
A bipartisan group of U.S. senators renewed a push last week for legislation to protect the special counsel, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican, opposes it, saying it is unconstitutional and unnecessary.
‘THE RULE OF LAW’
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who will likely lead the Senate panel overseeing the Justice Department next year, met with Whitaker last week and expressed confidence the Russia probe would continue.

But Graham said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” program on Sunday the Senate should v**e on the Mueller protection bill, which he helped write and supported when it won committee approval.
“I think it’s constitutional, and I’d like to v**e on it,” said Graham, who has been involved in negotiations with McConnell and retiring Republican Senator Jeff Flake, who has pledged to hold up Trump’s judicial confirmations until the Senate v**es on the Mueller bill.
“But, having said all that, I don’t see any indication at all that the Mueller probe is going to be interfered with by Mr. Whitaker or President Trump,” Graham added.
U.S. Representative Adam Schiff, who is set to lead the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee after Democrats won control of the chamber in this month’s midterm e******ns, said Democrats will use their oversight powers to investigate any effort by Whitaker to curb Mueller’s probe.
“We will expose any involvement he has in it,” Schiff, referring to Whitaker, told ABC’s “This Week” program,” accusing Trump of appointing Whitaker in order to interfere with the investigation. “This is an attack on the rule of law.”
Trump told reporters at the White House on Friday he had “very easily” completed his written answers for Mueller’s investigation. In his “Fox News Sunday” comments, he signaled he had no plans to do a face-to-face interview with Mueller’s team.
Trump and his lawyers had been in negotiations with Mueller’s team for months over how the president would be questioned as part of the investigation. Wallace asked Trump whether it was his final position that he would not do a sit-down interview and would not give written responses to questions relating to obstruction of justice.
“I think we’ve wasted enough time on this witch hunt and the answer is probably, we’re finished,” Trump said, though he added “I can change my mind.”
“We gave very, very complete answers to a lot of questions that I shouldn’t have even been asked, and I think that should solve the problem,” Trump added.
