Got a dog so I don 't need a gun

If that is your dog you aren't taking good care of him at all. HE IS TOO FAT and he needs clipping and brushing, and probably nails cut. While you are doing that, perhaps you can do some productive thinking and get off the" from each according to their ability to each according to their need" mentality. It would do both you and the dog a great deal of good.

Of course it would be nice to have real data to base decisions on but our paranoid government has for years forbidden any research on the affects of pot on people either long or short term. What research would you recommend to someone considering such a choice?

I honestly don't know what type of research is being done, having only picked up small amounts of information as part of other discussions. I believe that there are a few European studies because they have had legal pot for a number of years, although I think the Netherlands may have limited the legal use of pot in the last few years, perhaps because of research they have done.

When I was a teenager I used alcohol and pot as a way of trying to cope with emotional abuse from my father. As an adult who has spent many years working with teenagers who have been physically, emotionally and sexually abused, I can tell you that many of them have used drugs as a coping mechanism and by 12 to 14 they already have a problem. In addition to a psychologist and a couple of counselors like me and my wife, they needed medical help for drug addiction . Right now we are not at home, but going to a wedding later this week, a wedding that as counselors and therapists many people have become involved with the young man. This afternoon when I was looking at OPP we were with another young man who is going to the wedding. He is an abuse survivor (no longer a victim) and he also said that the pot helped him control the anger for a while, but in the long run it made the anger worse, and the self m********n more difficult to control. My brother, who died of rectal cancer recently had been a victim of physical and sexual abuse as a young teen and a heavy drinker and pot user for most of his life. By the time he came back into my life, there was evidence for disorientation but it could have been early stage dementia. He was 72 when he died.
Anyhow, I don't know what research is out there, but my question is Why would anyone want to loose control of their mental faculties even for a couple of days at a time? I guarantee it will solve nothing and probably will lessen your coping sk**ls, and what will it accomplish?

You know what would keep your family the safest? If your wife divorced you and sent you to live in a one room bachelor apt. with a hot plate. I have a nephew (by marriage) who is a cranky nasty gun goober. We are all rooting for the divorce and hot plate scenario.

No one wants to talk to our "Rambo wannabe" at family gatherings and he is studiously avoided or else we engage him in trivial "how's the weather" kind of conversations so as to not set this lovely creature off. My wife, unfortunately, has one of these types of cranky gun goobers as well, on her side of the family. We only see him every ten years.

We are sitting here on the porch watching three Airedales and two Cane Corsos being chased by a Welsh Terrier who weighs 17 pounds as against the Airedales 60 pounds each and the Cane Corsos 150 pounds each and the Welsh is winning. I though I would share some of the prayers from you guys, and then we got to the humor and decided to add a wise (or dumb if you look at it that way) crack or three. The discussion was getting too serious as it often can when we get talking about what we do, particularly since the man who owns one of the Airedales and the Welsh is a survivor who is now "big brother" to a teenager here. Had to lighten it up a bit. this weekend is going to be wild I have a feeling, as many people in the group have strange senses of humor, worse than mine AuntiE SWMBO has taken over frying pan duty here, but she is not the expert you are.

God Bless all of you!!

1.The number of adults who were caught driving while stoned doubled, but that's the responsibility of the person to designate a sober driver. Do we blame Alcohol when this happens or do we blame the person?

2.I don't know how you "consider" some one to smoke pot, but I presume it doesn't involve asking them.

3.We should educate kids on why it's not okay for them to smoke until they are of legal age, instead of just saying pot is bad.

4. Generally college students are adults right? It would be out of the ordinary if a state that legalized pot had a lower amount of pot smokers then other illegal states.

5. Were they high at the time? Because marijuana stays in your system for about 45-90 days after use.

6.Was it caused by marijuana or was it because they did something i***tic while they were high.

7.Pretty much the same thing as the last one.

You could easily switch this and replace pot with alcohol and make the same argument.

So why promote more intoxicants? The more that are legal the more foolist people will use, unfortunately the rest of us pay for their stupidity.

There have been several studies lately indicating that moderate pot usage over an extended time (more than one year) causes brain changes in not yet fully developed brains ( brains in males do not fully develop until about 25) These changes cause a behavior similar to chronic rage syndrome epilepsy in dogs. They are just beginning to research the long term effects after claiming for years that heavy, or even moderate use of pot does not cause permanent brain changes. I know, so does moderate use of alcohol over an extended period, and both probably are a cause of early senility . But as long as a SOMA like feeling is experienced, no one seems to care. Perhaps if people who make such choices had to suffer some of the consequences, the next group of people would not take up behaviors that are so damaging. Yes, I am aware of the genetic implications of vulnerability to addiction but, just because some people are slightly more likely to become addicted is no excuse. Would it not be better to solve the emotional problems that make someone more likely to use mind altering substances that to encourage the usage of such drugs?

Hey dufus, the U.S. is not a corporation. President Obama is not a CE0. He is the duly elected (twice) leader of our nation and commander in chief......not some douchebag corporate honcho. You like the idea of someone who is a politician and a corporate douchebag....then Dick Cheney is your man. The majority of the rest of us prefer someone like our current president.

And what is the connection between your comment and the topic at hand?

Growing up would mean living in the 21st century, not the 18th.

It would also mean a willingness to embrace diversity.

The wingnuts are not capable of either of these things, which is why the GOP is doomed in terms of its White House prospects.

People who live in the 21st century and embrace diversity? We have a name for them........we call them Democrats. They obviously outnumber the pissed off lost-in-the-50s conservative white folks. The last two p**********l e******ns proved that.

If by diversity you mean the belief that there is no right or wrong, what ever moves you is right, and to challenge that concept is evil and bigoted then you are correct, conservatives do not wish to celebrate that kind of diversity. However, you are more likely to h**e diversity if it comes in ideas that you do not approve of, that's why the colleges are filled with professors and students who preach the religion of moral relativism and its offspring "politically correct" at all costs. Realize that the statement "there is no right or wrong" is in itself a contradiction in terms.

You both are in our prayers, and the prayers of the friends we are staying with right now. It was not too long ago when I had to face the death of my brother, so I understand the great concern and love you have for your close friend. Our prayers and support are with you now and with you in the future. Be strong my friend, and God will be there for you both.

Welcome from two 70 year young people. You will have fun here if you remember that we each have our own opinions and each believes he/she is right. There will be many friendly people and some that are really nasty. There are also a number of trolls whose only purpose is to disrupt any productive conversations. Just say TROLL IGNORED and they will slink back under their troll bridge only to pop up somewhere else when you least expect it. We talk about many things, not all of which are political. Enjoy yourself and keep a sense of humor, you will need it.
