PeterS and other libs like to cast any attempt to restrict books into the category of "Book Banning," an area they usually reserve for materials that go against the "Woke" mentality or any opinion that is not congruent with their beliefs, hence "Cancel Culture," as we have come to recognize it. The refusal to protect children from discussion of subjects they aren't mature enough to handle has degenerated into teaching it to them without the knowledge of their parents, another practice which has been belatedly discovered and attacked by parents, with school boards being the usual attackees. When are we going to be more diligent of what our kids are being taught and who the culprits are. The most important thing, as I see it, is how have the culprits acquired this perversion. Could it be that what they have been taught in college has had something to do with it?

However, Mr. Rote was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, reckless endangerment and menacing. So apparently the NY Police disagree with his attorney.

Mr. Rote made himself look guilty by leaving the scene, and then tossing the pistol into the river. Considering the reaction from the NY police and prosecutors, I can't blame him too much for doing so. Unfortunately, his stand up actions were caught on camera, and so no good deed goes unpunished.
At this point, it looked like he saw a violent situation, pulled out a legally owned weapon, fired it twice while DELIBERATELY avoiding any injury to the criminal or any innocent bystanders, for the express purpose of frightening the felon without hurting him.
