A monopoly can exist when a few companies operate as a single provider/holder would do. A single co controlling the product is clear and evident. As far as the consumer is concerned, the same failed market system is in operation when several companys act with a single purpose. The effect to the consumer is inflated prices and limited choice.

With pharmaceuticals, the practice of allowing a single drug co to have exclusive rights to a new drug or medication allows them to drive up price to the level they wish and no alternative meds or generic versions can be found.. A practice far removed from any kind of free market system..

I don't think ADHD will go away. The disease does exist but too many doctors prescribe for it when the real problem is discipline (or lack thereof). One of my sons DOES have ADHD and when he was young, he simply could not concentrate for more than a few seconds at a time. We used many devices (such as kitchen timers set every minute to bring him back to task), and were able to avoid the drugs.
The biggest problem with drugs and big pharma is that the consumer doesn't bother to find out what they are being prescribed and most want instant relief and don't care what they do to get it.

Outrageous! The EPA all too CLEARLY works for the corporations and BIG OIL. Despite all the continued havoc rippling through the ecosystems in the Gulf from the DeepWater calamity, and likely to continue for generations, the Environmental PROTECTION Agency green-lights more drilling? Why? Have there been some developments - such as how to cope with disasters like DeepWater without dumping millions of gallons of even more toxic dispersants? No. Look for more ruination, deformed fish, drowned birds, dead manatees and blind shrimp to come.... I'm utterly disgusted.
