I think police in NYC should have the backing of their boss. Especially if you need them to have your back at some time in the future.
A DeBlasio apology might be appropriate.

Well, Well, Well!!! DeBlasio is worried. Revenue is down - as are arrests. It seems that he was too precipitate in suggesting to ALL New Yorkers that the WHOLE Police Dept. needed "reform." Guess he's finally learning just how indispensable these men and women are and what a damn good job they were doing. Without them, he'd just be the titular head of a horde.
These men and women ARE PURPOSEFULLY, NOT ALLEGEDLY (as DeBlasio alluded), attacked every day. When two NYC detectives were attacked by protesters, as SEEN IN PHOTOS AND ON VIDEO, De Blasio called it an alleged attack. And while DeBlasio was making nice with the protesters and telling them how bad the NYC police are, the protesters established their contemptible chant:
What do we want? Dead cops.- When do we want them? We want them now. Nice, Right?
The NYPD are TARGETS for every criminal, addict, or civilian with a problem - whether it be because of the uniform they wear or the patrol car they drive. Their jobs are not only extremely dangerous, but onerous as well. They are not only murdered - they are assassinated - and yes, there IS a difference!!
And what is the objective of their occupation? An honorable one! - To protect and serve!!! And what support did DeBlasio offer? He told his son to be wary of THE POLICE!! Now there's a real morale booster. Apparently, a police officer HAS TO DIE before he receives gratitude or compliments from this Mayor.
Since he considers himself too proud to apologize for his disparaging remarks to the FINEST OF US, DeBlasio might be more content on a second honeymoon to Cuba. In September of 2013, a Cuban-American radio host asked De Blasio to explain his 1991 honeymoon to Cuba. "I think it's well known that there's been SOME GOOD THINGS that happened in that government." De Blasio also told the New York Times that the Sandinistas showed a "youthful energy and idealism mixed with a human ability and practicality that was REALLY INSPIRATIONAL."
Oh sure! Our Police need "retraining" but the Sandinistas are "inspirational."
Think about it. You are a Police Officer - you have the character and desire to make a positive difference in this world. You take a job protecting your neighbors, even though it puts your life at risk. You neither ask for, nor expect, accolades. The very least you deserve is respect. When your uber-partisan "boss" only demeans and disparages you, despite the exemplary work you do, what is your recourse? Quit? You have a family to raise and getting the job was no easy task. You also are dedicated to your calling and to your fellow officers. But when the boss's rhetoric becomes such that it instigates violence and hatred - when it actually becomes the catalyst for the assassination of two of your brothers, then a dignified turning of your back on this poor excuse for a Mayor, and in honor of your fallen friends, certainly does not reach the level of disrespect DeBlasio showed to your Dept..
France has just suffered a terrorist attack and so New York is raising its security level. Guess who they will call on as the first line of defense? The ingratitude is appalling!!!
So go back to Cuba, Warren Wilhelm (aka DeBlasio) - You'll probably be much happier with Castro and Co.. And BTW, for once, do us all a favor - take Barack Hussein with you.
