Arrests plummet 66 percent with NYPD in virtual work stoppage

It’s not a slowdown -- it’s a virtual work stoppage.

NYPD traffic tickets and summonses for minor offenses have dropped off by a staggering 94 percent following the execution of two cops -- as officers feel betrayed by the mayor and fear for their safety, The Post has learned.

The dramatic drop comes as Police Commissioner Bill Bratton and Mayor Bill de Blasio plan to hold an emergency summit on Tuesday with the heads of the five police unions to try to close the widening rift between cops and the administration.

The unprecedented meeting is being held at the new Police Academy in Queens at 2 p.m., sources said.

Angry union leaders have ordered drastic measures for their members since the Dec. 20 assassination of two NYPD cops in a patrol car, including that two units respond to every call.

My husband and I read the article and others similar regarding the slow down and in one of the comment sections.
Cops stop arresting people and you know what the crime rate went down.
Ughh, and just where do these people think crime statistics come from?

Sorry the average Joe is a slow thinker and if it doesn't happen to them then it's not happening. Mean while crimes continue.

France has just suffered a terrorist attack and so New York is raising its security level. Guess who they will call on as the first line of defense? The ingratitude is appalling!!!

I say, France should "Thank" America and Diane Feinstein since apparently the terrorists didn't accept her apology!!

Don't believe Reagan would have do much, NY cops are not Federal. Also remember we have an Obama not a Reagan type president. While France is on high alert NYC is also, problem is what part do you protect bridges, water system, t***sportation, what? So much cops protect that people don't see that job has become near impossible and now NYC has an i***t running the show.

Even so, as government employees or even private sector rank and file, Reagan could have ordered the cops back to work. During WWII, it was illegal for any union involved in Defense Department contracts to go on strike, and organization of any government workforces was illegal. This does not mean we should not empathize with the vast majority of honest cops, but we need a different approach.

Why not hold a referendum v**e to publically impeach the NYC mayor?

The strategy is good..It says now see how well the State will fair in collecting revenue we generate...It also says higher crime is the end result and if that's what you want, then that's what we'll give you..I like it!!

Wow, you believe the workers should have control over the boss. I rescind you conservative card.
Deblogio, is not their boss. Deblogio, is merely a function administrator. The citizens of New York by virtue of their citizenship, and taxes paid, are their employers. I realize that a pompous politician doesn't like to be reminded of that fact, but-it-is-what-it-is! Ask the bigger question: who's gonna be missed more in a city like New York, the mayor or the police. If anyone should be boss, if one cares to use that term, it should be the police giving Deblogio instructions.

No police state. Seriously, you are not advocating authoritarian rule with out citizen representation such as elected representation.

I was merely pointing out the reality of the situation in a facetious manner, authoritarian rule aside, would you argue with the logical outcome the question presented?

While I agree with your thinking nothing makes we think Reagan would or could have ordered any police force back to work when there is no offical strike, that's where the mayor and governor come into play.

During WWII it was a declared war, no chance of Obama declaring war other than on republicans. ISIS beheads and Obama runs back to the golf course and 12 are k**led in France but the word terrorist fails to leave his lips.

As for a referendum, in NYC with 70 to 80% liberals good luck with that one.

I don't get paid to not work, no matter how much I like or dislike my boss.

I agree. If they are unwilling to do the job they are being paid to accomplish, then they should look into getting into another career field. Policemen do not make policy, leaders elected by the v**ers make policy. This is a fact of life for a public employee and they must learn to live with it.

Why don't you go apply for the job. I think they should all quit, leaving those liberal bastards with no police. But, first, they will publish in the Times and on NYTV and radio that they are going to quit on midnight on Feb. 1st, 2015. B****s would immediately take over the city. You will pay ghetto dwellers to ride the subs. Look out libs You may get
what you wish for. Do you really want a job that makes you a target of whackos that will k**l you in a heart beat? Your not going g live in a 300 sq ft. manson but, in a lower middle class house if you live long enough.

No ,I will not .You are correct in assuming the logical outcome.
Dear NYPD and all local police departments ,
DO NOT QUIT
DO NOT GIVE UP.
YOU ARE NEEDED, YOU ARE APPRECIATED!
