Did the bible let you know that the world was round? Did it tell you of all the other planets?

People believed in the bible when they thought the world was flat! The only people (tribe) that had any real knowledge of astrology were the Dogen who believed that the inhabitants of this planet came from another. They were able to draw the solar system before discovery by astronomers and also "knew" that there were more planets existing. Did they get this info. from the bible?

That was VERY weak Alicia....I expected more from you, but at least you were being genuine with your response.

The Dogen are an actual tribe in Africa. They also had the philosophy that everyone's job was just as important as anyone else's. All equal to the continuance of the society. The boat-builder was not more important than the rope-maker. See, Socialism can work! Sadly, civilization is closing in on them and will destroy them. I did see a documentary on that tribe on PBS or whatever it's called. If you searched, you might be able to find it. That is, if you go for that type of programming. I might even have a copy of it, but it would probably be on VHS.

Reason and Faith.

Reason is the ability to understand nature through observation
Faith is the ability to understand nature through trust in God

Through Faith we know God is the source of Knowledge and Truth.
Through Reason and Observation, the core of Science, we search for Knowledge and Truth

So applying the logic behind reason, If Faith knows God is Truth and Science is searching for the truth. One day Science on its own will prove the Truth that God exists, and is the source of Truth.

Now observations may trick you. But the fact through reason is that's the limitations of the human mind and our mortal being.

The universe is more than this physical plane of existence, this is proven by science, for science is a slow process, where faith is the express route. It does not take faith to observe, but it takes observation to have faith. Even though faith is granted by God.

Faith is comfortable because it does not entail thinking which is too painful for for some people's heads.

Congratulations. You just denigrated and wrote off about 80% of the world population. The majority have a faith, whether it be Christian (the one you most dislike), Judaism, Buddhism, Muslim, Pagan, Wiccan and on down a list. Aren't you just so special this evening. It is wonderful you are so able to determine who thinks and who does not, based on faith.

I have nothing against people's religious philosophies, I do dislike the fact that many substiute faith in place of thinking. And I see a number of them who have nothing better to say besides quoting verse. I wonder how many actually question those "verses?" OR do they just accept them because that's what their parents taught them?

I come by my philosophy by reading and studying other ones. Not every "religion" has all the answers. I prefer to question and firmly believe that if a religion or philosophy cannot stand up to questioning, it isn't worth it's salt.

The reason I am most against Christians is that they are always attempting to convert others. I have yet to be approached by a Buddhist, Jew or pagan who is interested in gaining brownie points through his action.

Pick up any scientific book and you will find the answer.

If, as many believe, God wrote the Bible through the hand of men, can you negate that every creation did not come from the minds of man but from the mind of god.

We have a new poster who believes that she is being used by god to transcribe his words into poetry. Why don't you ask her as she was the first to offer that explanation on this forum.

"That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God."

I see you are condescending no matter with whom or the thread. No surprise there I guess.

FAITH: strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension RATHER than proof.

How much 'thinking' is involved in "spiritual apprehension rather than proof?" Alice is correct, faith is for the lazy for all you have to do is stick your head in the sand and pretend that reality isn't real. Not much work there, hell I bet even you could do that.

And because 80% believe something does that make it true? That's Argumentum ad populum and a logical fallacy--and while not the direct lie you seem to prefer it is still something that is very far from the truth!

Conceder this!
If God exist then he is capable of doing what he said he did. Assuming he does, It not much of a leap to believe he spoke and not one thing became everything. If that is true then one of the things he spoke into existence was/is time. Thus a day to him is as a thousand years as he exist outside of time. If he does not exist then let’s get on with the party!

This may be hard to swallow but God spoke, Christ did the work, and the Holy Spirit blessed it. Then God blesses it again. Kind of confusing isn't it, since all three are one.

Wrong again, Faith is the epitome of thinking. When the subject is beyond comprehension by natural means yet still exists, it is by faith we acknowledge our lack of knowledge. And yet because it is there, we search for a reasonable answer. The problem is, that when we can't find a reasonable answer, we make something up and use that as a foundation. that takes more faith than knowledge.
