Former President Donald Trump is actively promoting his agenda in anticipation of a potential second term, causing ripples in the political landscape.
In a recent address in Nashville, Tennessee, Trump announced his intention to dismantle the Department of Education, garnering significant support and applause from the crowd.
This declaration was made during his keynote speech at the 2024 National Religious Broadcasters’ International Christian Media Convention.
Trump has reiterated his plan to effectively eliminate the agency established by President Jimmy Carter in 1979 on previous occasions.
Trump openly expressed his strong desire to eliminate the DOE, a move supported by many conservatives who view it as a misuse of taxpayer money that fails to benefit students and is often overly politicized.
“We’re going to end the so-called Department of Education. We might have one desk, one person, just to make sure everyone is speaking English,” Trump said during his keynote speech.

Nashville Scene noted:
He pledged to “support a policy of universal school choice” and promised to grant “529 education savings accounts to be used for homeschooling expenses up to $10,000 a year, per child, completely tax-free,” as well as reiterating conservative calls to shut down the U.S. Department of Education.
“With your prayers, your voice and your vote, we will reclaim our government from these horrible tyrants,” Trump told the audience, adding that he will “restore faith and family to the center of American life” and saying that “the great revival of America begins on Nov. 5, 2024.”
The former Secretary of Education under Trump has openly stated that she believes the Department of Education should not exist. This view garnered widespread support on social media when Trump announced his plans to abolish the agency.
“Education should be controlled by the states,” one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, “We have the second worst president (I’ll never lie to ya) the peanut farmer from Georgia to thank for the Dept of Education, the EPA and a couple more.”
“Finally! Also get rid of Agriculture, Energy, HUD, EPA, HHS, and Labor. Anything useful they do would be better done by states or private organizations,” another social media user wrote.

I was hoping it would happen in his first term! The United States has moved below third world countries in education all since 1972 when the Department of Uneducation was created.

What is your issue with homeschooling?

What do you actually know about homeschooling in these current times?

Ps: you best hope AuntiE skips this thread. She’s forgotten more about public education that anyone at Department of Uneducated. By the time she finishes ripping you a couple of new butts, you’ll need a pillow to set down.

Frankly, it is a waste of time explaining uneducation to these cult members. To their way of thinking, failing to teach core subjects is just fine as long as deviant sexual practices are taught, even in kindergarten.

But not a government controlled education system.
There is no constitutional provision for the establishment of a state school.
Call it the separation of school and state.

Frankly, there is no Constitutional provision for 95% of the Federal agency in existence, and that 5% is being generous.

It was started by Jimmy Carter, as was the Dept. of Energy. Both "DoE's" are total failures much like Carter's presidency!!!!

We did before the Department of Education was formed in 1977. The US ranked in the top five in many academic disciplines. Now we are barely in the top twenty, if that. The DOE is a teacher's union/screw the students organization. Before the Department of Education the US school system was something to be proud of. Now, foreign students major in computer science, physics, and engineering while US students demand free rides for degrees in "Gender Studies" and assorted bullshit.

Jimmuh Cahtuh was also the one who made the Bureau of Alcohol and Tobacco the BATFE, an organization that commits more crimes than it prosecutes.

This is great idea. Each state must take care of their own students' education. Results will also be better due to competition showing which states perform better graduates.

Another benefit is it will minimize the abuses of the Teachers' Labor Union. Currently the union demands so much from the taxpayers without any improvements to students but rather continued decline in the academics and in their moral behavior.

It will reduce cost and improve performance.
At present Public Schools students could not read, write, and do simple math at 4th grade level while the Labor union demands every year pay raises. Some teachers are also useless, dumb, and lazy. Some are good.

All of them must have higher standards of expectations on their job performance. Currently our property tax goes higher and higher every year. 65% of that is paid to Public Schools. But these kids are dumb and all they do is fighting other kids. The bigger kids always win. I saw these kids often punching the smaller kids like the Whites, and Asians. They big ones and you know who they are, fat and taller, kick the smaller ones. Punch until their heads are broken on concrete floor. I pay so much tax for these kinds, and this is what I see often times. Fact is in almost all Public Schools have too much violence, hatred, and racial divide!

The DEI, WOKE, CRT, made it worst. These kids given the power of self-aggrandizement at the expense of the other kids who are smart and do better jobs.

In addition, they create too much immoralities, hatred, racial divide. The Labor union in fact promotes this along with the School Board. Kids thought that depending how they feel, female could be male, or male could be female through surgery, even without parent's consent. These are all destructions. Nothing to do with the Academics of Learning.

How 'bout this? We find the very best K-12 teachers for each subject for each grade and have them teach that basic subject in a computer program so that every student in every class in every school gets the very same education opportunity. For more advanced students the basic program would also include more in-depth and ancillary subject material for self study. The classroom 'teacher' would be there to supervise and answer questions. For 'slower' students having trouble with even the basic subject matter tutoring would be available during the school day. Also, I believe that every high school should have a technical division teaching a selection of trades of value to that area.

I also believe that most government agencies are supposed to serve an 'advisory' function to congress therefore most require no more than two employees per state and territory to act as liaison between the local & federal government. Agencies should not be making policy, that's the job of congress.

Yes a change is needed. We need to return standards to the levels we had when in public school. There are good dedicated teachers who are liberals as well as conservatives. There are those educators who will bring back standards in public school if they get the support from the state. If and when the Dep'tEd is disbanded will the states get behind public education and support the educators who want to bring up standards?
