I believe it was in an earlier post that one of the regulars here said that the KKK is really now a non entity having morphed into the American Nazi Party. YEs I am well aware that the Klan was founded by southern democrats to terrorize blacks and later all non white minorities and non Christian faiths. I don't think they are connected with either political party to be honest any more. I am pretty sure there are Klan members who support both parties so it's not just the democratic party that supports the agenda of this group. Yes the Confederate flag most displayed is still the battle flag of Lee's Army of Northern VA. It is NOT the national flag of the CSA(That is the Stars and Bars). I saw Confederate flags among the crowds on Jan6 and I would guess they were supporters of Mr. Trump. I still see bumper stickers and flags at times. It is disappointing that the flag has come to represent racism to most people. When I was growing up we Flew the Confederate Flag(Lee's Flag) alongside the American flag on both Jeff Davis's and Lee's birthdays as both were state holidays(at least in TX). The flag was given to me by my dad he had it when he was a student at A&M in the 60's. My family had ancestors that fought for the CSA (Texas and Alabama/Florida)and I flew that flag because of family pride not because it represented a racist rebelling gov't. I have thought about flying the Stars and Bars recently and see no reason not to. I am proud of my southern heritage none of my ancestors owned slaves they were not part of the plantation class. I also understand there is still work to be done on ensuring equality but the South is changing for the better. Except for 3yrs in PA, 8 in CO and 2yrs in the UK. I have lived in the south. My kids and their children live still in the south and I have told them the history of our family to the best of my knowledge. Right now as it has been for I guess 25yrs or so the South is politically a Republican stronghold. Liberal democrats are in the minority in almost all southern states we do exist . We are not going away.
