The following article says it all.
Are they cowards or pawns?

Training days are fun and informative. When faced with the prospect of actually confronting a deranged shooter holding a military-style weapon, training day instructions get lost in thoughts about self preservation. Cops would have a better chance of stopping a shooter if military-style weapons were not present.

I totally agree. Sad to say, the Texan small town cops were not what they should have been that is, brave. I also think the person in charge made the worst decisions he could have. On to the next massacre.

The military style weapon you refer to is a figment of your imagination. It's functionality exactly the same as any modern, traditional looking rifle. You should not project your fears and cowardice on professional police officers. There are techniques for door kicking that significantly reduce risk to the kickers, instill fear in the perpetrator and usually cause the demise of said perp. It is not without risk.

There were many failures in this most recent incident. They include parenting, nut-job care, school security, teacher compliance with security and policing. They all share blame, not just the cops.

Thats not training. If done right its stressful and demanding - and continuous. Thats done to prepare for what they may face. Even then there’s no guarantee they will function as needed.

You forgot to mention the biggest failure of all. Selling guns to 18-year old kids.

That wasn't the failure at all. Selling too that particular gun to that particular kid was the problem. Most 18 year olds that own guns never do an illegal thing with them.

I didn't forget anything. That factoid is irrelevant.

Everyone agrees that Public Safety reforms are needed. Senate Republicans recently blocked a bill designed to combat domestic terrorism. The Democrats need the cooperation of Republican lawmakers in their attempt to satisfy the demand from American voters to enact legislation that will improve the Public Safety for all Americans.

Not everyone agrees with the kind of public safety reform you are after. If your ideas were any good, you would have no trouble gaining sufficient Republican support.

I don't need any federal government legislation to improve my safety. I am well prepared to take care of that myself or die trying.

Soft targets can be sufficiently hardened.
Criminals can be held for trial and jailed with significant sentencing when they use a gun in their crime.

Grow up. maybe they didn't appreciate the idiot democrats definition of a domestic terrorist. How would you improve public safety for all Americans? Give specifics and how they would work or STFU!

It is a fact that if the shooter was not able to acquire a gun, he could not have murdered 19 innocent people. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. It's the combination that leads to trouble. When a gun lands in the hands of a deranged 18-year old, you have the potential for mass murder. In a free society it is hard to control people. We still have the ability to control guns, if we really care about Public Safety.

Sure he could have. The Bath School disaster, which took the lives of 38 children and six adults in 1927. It remains the deadliest mass murder in a school in American history.

In his new book, Maniac, author Harold Schechter tells the horrifying story of the massacre, in which a farmer-politician bombed a school in Bath Township, Mich. It's not an easy book to read — the details of the terrorist act are, as you might expect, extremely horrifying — but it's a fascinating look at one of the most unspeakable events in American history. You have still not given your solution. all you do is whine. typical prog.

I noticed you said in a free society. Are you the type to give up freedoms for security? History has shown us when you do this, you get neither.
