You can attend college while enlisted at no cost if you are not deployed to a war zone that is. At least that's what happened with my son who did 5 tours of duty, 4 in the Middle East. But we (US) did pay for 2 years of college after he returned and discharged. Too bad it wasn't 4. He ate his education up, committed and a great student. (not saying that because he's my son, that's what being a Marine instilled in him).

Didn't know that about not being able to take courses during time in war zone but T was in Korea 70 years ago and things were probably different.

A wechat group I'm in is comprised of mostly younger teachers from the US and Canada... Last night they were having a rather interesting discussion concerning student debt forgiveness in the US... Seems that the federal government is considering forgiving $10,000 in debt for each individual (not sure if this is true, they didn't provide an article)...

Anyway, some of them were considering using this as an opportunity to get some freebies... A lot of programs and certifications out there are less than $10,000...Moreland college for example offers some great online certifications and liscenses...

I find the idea rather deplorable... Individuals living overseas (this group is mostly Asia ~ China, Korea, Japan) taking taxpayer money (although it should be pointed out that Americans are still required to pay tax even when working outside of the US)...

Personally, I'm against most forms of debt forgiveness... Especially concerning student loans.... But that opinion isn't shared by most Millennials...

One of the women in the group is a dual citizenship (UK/USA...But her parents are from Nigeria) and has an astonishing amount of student debt... She admits to having had to take a math course six times in order to graduate... Her degree is in visual arts and she was jobless for a year upon graduation...Which led to her first moving to Korea to teach ESL (fired three times in a year) and later China (fired twice in her first year and now unemployed despite there being a desperate need for foreign ESL teachers over here)... She hasn't made a student debt payment in over a year due to the debt freeze, but will be unable to do so when the freeze ends...

She, and many like her, blame their issues on covid and bad luck (she was fired five times in 2 1/2 years!!!) and openly advocate for student debt forgiveness...

I have a very different solution to student debt...Stop giving loans to idiots who choose useless majors... When a straight A student applies for a medical program, that's the time for loans...

Your opinions???

Yup. Sign on the bottom line, get money. Then, pay as agreed. It helps to have a useful degree, though.

Biden is to blame for this insane scheme of paying these people to vote democrat , just as he is paying the illegals for same thing . He is losing more democrats for various reasons , abortion , fentanyl , even some are pulling their head out and waking up to his foolishness. He knows that and is trying to replace them

The only solution is to have competing power centers. The best check on any crook is to have another competing crook watching him. There simply are not enough honest people entering politics to go around. China and Russia being one party dictatorships are by design corrupt. Whatever internal party rivalries that exist are inadequate to keep everybody honest.

And you're claiming that the American or Canadian system isn't rife with corruption???

Yes I am. At least relative to China and Russia. Canada and the US have mechanisms for dealing with corruption. Most people in both countries can get along pretty well by being honest. In China and Russia, Corruption is a survival skill. The government control is so severe that if you follow all of the rules, you cannot prosper.

I disagree...

Both Russia and China have mechanisms for dealing with corruption...

Corruption is pretty rampant in Western politics...

Capitalism is a great way of getting the ball rolling, but unlike a snowball, it loses something as it’s rolling along. That’s all the skimming that’s being done by so many of our politicians.
Skimming some privileges, some favors, some tax write offs. Some insider trading tips. And don’t forget those lobbyists and other special interest groups, they can be Very generous!
And of course, that’s only the tip of the iceberg !
To say our government isn’t as corrupt as Russia or China is just sticking your head in a hole.

The Russian Mafia rules in Moscow. Putin IS the Russian Mafia. Same goes in China, except it's not Slavic in nature.

And here in the U.S.A. it’s the deep state that line their pockets and/or portfolios, putting themselves above the average American working middle class citizen.
