Because they wanted it kept quiet and out of the public eye. It would have been at that time a shameful thing to admit. It became a real issue when it became more public and openly supported by activists.
This is because our ancestors were of a much higher moral character than we are today. To try to conflate today on the times back then is ridiculous.
It was about womens rights not abortion.
Did they have right to safe legal abortions ?
Did they have a right to choose safe legal abortions.

It was, but it wasn’t prevalent or popular.

There is no Constitutional basis for abortion. It was just contrived by the Justices who created it. It should be a state issue.
Abortion originated by *personally irresponsible women*, getting together, & demanding "rights/control"....over their bodies...simply because "it's their body"!
They are giving no thought to the *Sanctity of Human Life, & what the Bible says about abortion! Add their Heinous practice of "partial-birth abortion".....{ Murdering that baby, just before it takes its first breath}...by sucking the brains of the baby's skull! :O{{{ { Simply narcissism, to the Nth degree }
OOOOOOH! Women do not like to hear that.....: Where is their compassion in the first place?
If they were made to watch that "on-screen", while they "did that"...{ Doctors}.....This heinous practice would not last very long!
There are no words for how stupid you are. and God will reward you.

Many people consider it to be murder. The old 'right to life' concept.....

How can you be free if you don't have the right to control your own body? Or does the constitution allow for freedom?

We are a secular country with separation between Church and State so what the bible says is totally and completely irrelevant...and if men have a right to control their own bodies doesn't it follow suit that a woman does too?

There is no constitutional basis for not having abortion, it's up to each individual and those that are against it are because of religious reasons...they have nothing to do with the constitution.
The only reason we are here is a supreme court packed with blatantly religiously biased people...take the religion out of the issue and we have an abortion legal country
No Woody, you are wrong. Not all of us who are against abortion are religious. I do not practice any form of religion and do not believe in "abortion at will". It's the unreasonable/unnecessary taking of a life if it's not for medical purposes.
Correct! Not religious! Late term abortion is murder, plain and simple.,

An unborn child is not part of the woman's body. Follow the science.

I cannot believe this. Why wasn’t it mentioned in the Constitution then? They weren’t as evil then as we seem to be now, so we shouldn’t judge them by our low standards.
