Either he’s a complete idiot or an absolute moron. Either way, he’s an embarrassment to the whole nation.

It was not Reschenthaler who said it. It was Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) who gave the opening prayer, and who ended it with "amen", a confirmatory word, meaning "so be it" of Hebrew origin...and "awomen" which is not a word and has no meaning whatsoever.

One word..."Doofus" comes to mind....

Amen
uttered at the end of a prayer or hymn,
meaning ‘so be it.’.

Urban dictionary
The word Amen is a declaration of affirmation.

1:14 PM PT -- Rep. Cleaver says he's disappointed his prayer has been "misinterpreted and misconstrued" by people like Trump Jr. to "fit a narrative that stokes resentment and greater division among portions of our population."
The Congressman calls his "amen and awoman" line a "light-hearted pun," and says it was "in recognition of the record number of women who will be representing the American people in Congress during this term as well as in recognition of the first female Chaplain of the House of Representatives."
Rep. Cleaver accuses those who criticized his pun of twisting his message and demeaning him, so he claims for his next prayer he will ask God for "strength to overcome these terrifyingly tribal times, and the courage to come together in an effort to heal the nation."

Wikipedia says that it goes back to the first Hebrews. It was an Abrahamic declaration of affirmation. In other words, I agree!
When we say a prayer, we finish it with Amen...we affirm the prayer. When the preacher says something you particually agree with, you would say Amen out loud so that the preacher could hear it. When I read a post I really like, I might say Amen an amen! It means, as you said, "so be it" doubly so!

Look this is a ridiculous argument. First off, Amen (Hebrew: אָמֵן, 'ʾāmēn'; Greek: ἀμήν, 'amín'; Arabic: آمین, 'āmīn; Aramaic/Syriac: ܐܵܡܝܼܢ, 'ʾāmīn') is an Abrahamic declaration of affirmation first found in the Hebrew Bible, and subsequently in the New Testament. It is used in Jewish, Christian and Islamic worship, as a concluding word, or as a response to a prayer. Common English translations of the word amen include "verily", "truly", and "so be it". It is also used colloquially, to express strong agreement.

Now this is the origin of the word. Now people that make fun of the sexist ideologies of both sides will use the pun, "Awomen" or "Awoman". This is a trolling effect to provoke a response of either side. Why can't we laugh at the pun, rather than take it as anything else than a pun on words?

If one has a problem with words being used, in any manner, when the words are used as a pun, then we have a very serious psychological problem with this society. Seriously, the best form of medicine is usually humor, and if we can't do puns on the simple, then what do we do when it gets more complex? Both sides, the liberals and the conservatives need to stop and pick their battles more wisely.

There are certain words of the english language that are deemed to be crude, vile, or even down right mean. And these words ought not to be used in settings of formality. However, when one is using humor to lighten up an already heated and volatile situation then all is fair.

For the same that is being said about Rep. Guy Reschenthaler, can be said about:

Harry Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George Bush(Sr. and Jr.), Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump.

And that's just the presidents, I could also name many senators and representatives that made a pun on words to lighten the mood of the crowd at the time. See we use puns to lighten the atmosphere, otherwise would you rather have two men, two women, two people, get out in the street and have a duel? Or would you rather laugh off the pun, and lighten up. In a 100 years or so, we all will be dead and none of this will matter any way.

Roger Rabbit says to Eddie, "Where's Your Sense of Humor?", well I say to all of America, especially the younger generation: "Where's your sense of humor?"

He closed his prayer by saying "awomen" as a light-hearted pun in recognition of the record number of women who will be in Congress? And as a nod to the first female Chaplain of the House? Right. If you believe that, moldyoldy, I have a nice bridge for sale...real cheap....

Amun (also Amon, Ammon, Amen) is the ancient Egyptian god of the sun and air. He is one of the most important gods of ancient Egypt who rose to prominence at Thebes at the beginning of the period of the New Kingdom (c. 1570-1069 BCE). He is usually depicted as a bearded man wearing a headdress with a double plume or, after the New Kingdom, as a ram-headed man or simply a ram, symbolizing fertility in his role as Amun-Min. His name means "the hidden one," "invisible," "mysterious of form," and unlike most other Egyptian gods, he was considered Lord of All who encompassed every aspect of creation.
