What stopped them from employing foreigners legally? With work visas?

The only ones who they can get are the illegals. And it wasn't because they were cheaper. Both of them were non union shops, so they had to pay more than the union shops because they don't have retirement plans. There are not that many unemployed legals available on the west coast. They already have jobs and don't want to do the study to get certified for the work.

That was only on certified payroll jobs. The normal pay for regular work was around $28 plus benefits. It's hard work in a hazmat suit.

Astute observation

Illegal aliens cost US taxpayers about 100 billion dollars a year. They contribute around 12-15 billion to the economy. Those illegal aliens in the workplace frequently have ten kids at home. People who knowingly hire illegals need to be punished severely. Notice I said "knowingly." That's because according to the Social Security Administration there are nearly one and a half million wetbacks in this country obtaining employment and benefits for themselves and their rent-a-putas by using ID stolen from US citizens. This is a real crime with real victims. As far as "jobs Americans won't do;" there are a number of states where welfare pays better than some jobs. I believe it is 29 states according to Forbes magazine. Raising the minimum wage almost always results in people either being fired or having their hours cut. Workfare was one of the few things the Clinton Administration got right, only to have it canceled under Obama and so far not reinstated under Trump, mainly because the Democrap controlled House is too busy trying to witch hunt the president to do what they were hired for.

Most of the illegal aliens I have seen are contributing to the economy, not taking from it. They work hard, pay into SSA, even though they will never draw on it.

Our history of bringing in immigrants has never been very good for the immigrants. When the Iriah were coming in because of the potato famine, the signs said "No dogs or Irish allowed." When it was the Italians it was just as derogatory. Same with the Chinese when they were building the railroads. When the Vietnamese came in during the 70's, they caught the same flack. I think only the blacks were welcomed with open arms, and oh yeah, chains.

For a good economy, unemployment should be around 5%. That is normal with people moving from one job to another. When it is below 5%, that is a sign we need more workers. Our economy needs more Mexicans to do grunt work.

We should be having government programs that are bringing workers in, vetting them in the process. Building walls that keep foreigners out is counter productive. Having strong Ports of Entry with good immigrant screening programs will keep the drugs out and our economy growing.

Treating people derogatorily doesn't really help anything.

What did you think was sarcastic in my post? I mean, I do know how to be sarcastic at the appropriate time, but I can assure you that there is no sarcasm in that posting. It was all things I believe in.

The true method of how to get rid of these scum is to heavily fine those that employ them..Americans must understand that these people’s le do not want to become Americans. They simply want to reap whatever benefits they can claim. Any extra money made here goes straight back to their home country. Once there the money is saved or used to build houses or property. That money is gone from our country forever. No taxes paid! Cut off the social benefits, fine the people that hire them and they will go home or at least somewhere else.

There is no such thing as an undocumented immigrant. An immigrant is one who has pursued a legal avenue to permanently move into a country and adhere to the laws of immigration for that country. A migrant is someone who moves around to different places within the same country. How, then, can a legal immigrant to our country be undocumented?

What you are referring to is called "illegal aliens" who are trespassing and in some cases squatting on our land. They have no legal right to be here, and they have broken the law by sneaking here. I feel bad for those people who want to immigrate to America the legal way, learning the language, having physical and mental exams and taking an oath to abide by our Constitution.

I'm sick of those who want to re-name something because it suits their political agenda. They are ILLEGAL ALIENS. Period.

Spot on, send them all back where they came from!

Really? Most of the ones I've seen are hardened gang members in prison, just getting out of prison or about to go to prison at $40k per inmate per year!

Good! They can foot the bill for all their compadres!

And ONE trip to the ER can cost more than every dollar they make...

Whatever kind of racial guilt you assume...just assume you can carry it by yourself.

Wrong. Our economy needs unemployed and low skill Americans to do those jobs.

When I got out of prison in 2003 I tried to get a job picking onions with a local farmer who turned me down because I didn't speak Spanish.

In 2010 I got a job processing fish in Dutch Harbor AK. I worked 7 days a week, 12 hours a day for 4 months. I stayed in Dutch Harbor for 5 years.

Foreign nationals from all over the world worked there because Americans have been convinced they're too good for grunt work...just like the hag is too good for the law.

BS on both counts.

We might need more workers after we put our own people to work but the government can't manage its way out of a wet paper sack. We don't need the government to fix it...

We need them to quit breaking it.
