When have we ever been able to completely trust what the government tells us? Do you have a theory as to why the USGS is not reporting magnitudes accurately? Is it an unwritten policy to not alarm the public?
Look at Oregon State as an example. We know factually that earthquakes don't hopscotch over, they have paths that like a river flow in specific directions and seek out weak points in the earth's crust. Oregon state is peppered with volcanoes, volcanic fields and volcanic deformations as well as super Volcanoes. Yet silent for years with only a mention of off shore earthquakes. Mt Hood a active volcano never has earthquakes? How about Hydrate Ridge off the coast that had methane explosions when methane frozen below the sea bed thawed when a hot spot appeared.
Several years ago the Cascadia subduction zone (possibly set for the world's largest earthquake) was the center of attention in the media. CNN NBC, Fox, University's published research studies of the approaching Mega Quake. This became front and center internet /media blitz.
Property values both coastal and inland fell, local businesses suffered from a drop in tourism and as people cried out that they were victims of media hysteria and fear mongering the USGS became silent in Oregon.
Another reason the USGS hides numbers is to maintain its highest funding levels and fat cat salaries for its untruthful research. The USGS each year gives the government it earthquake predictions based on their findings and research.
Imagine a weather men receiving funding and hugh salaries based on their future Forecast, funding based on their perceived accuracy. But instead of a quarterly forecast being 20 inches of rain they were having 31 inches. If they were always inaccurate they would risk losing funding. So instead the weatherman goes out every morning and empties a little water out of the rain gauge to pad the numbers.
I can prove the USGS pads numbers, because there are often two dozen sometimes three dozen plus plus stations that have sensors, many use entirely different methodology of establishing magnitudes. When 24 stations report an earthquake at 5.4 - 6.2 as an example and all the magnitudes in between and the USGS reports it as a 4.9 and this happens 80 % of earthquakes reported or as in Ridgecrest region they just deleted over a hundred earthquakes. How about as earthquakes were lining up with a flow towards the San Andreas fault and the USGS deleted a dozen earthquakes and then moved 3 of them 40 miles away to quarries and then classified them as explosions.
The same thing happens to Russia and China as happens to Oregon, there are no earthquakes for 7-8 months over entire continents? Opps, I can look at the Russian reporting agencies and see earthquakes reported daily, yet the USGS claimes a different story. "do earthquakes follow politics or know borders?" is my quote used over and over when contacting the USGS and complaining. Like magic all of a sudden the USGS finds a couple earthquakes for a month or two and then goes silent unlike the Russian agency still reporting earthquakes.
A fellow mentor / Earthquake forecaster publicity offered with no strings attached, no fees to teach them the methodology of forecasting earthquakes. A methodology that brings over an 80%++ accuracy long term and their response "" " NO" "".
Why NO? Because the methodology debunks everything the USGS teaches and states as factual about earthquakes and threatens to expose their false research, studies, conclusions.
Bottom line, the USGS are corrupt and liars and Lucy Jones is by definition a fake and a fraud.
Hope that helps to answer your questions.
Sorry for errors, I'm fat fingerling my phone late at night....
Be safe friend and grateful you have questions.
