Even looking at the sub from outside, it looked as though the upper section was either papier mache or fibreglass, since papier mache wouldn't hold up I am going with fibreglass. The hull looked lumpy and poorly formed, especially around the two port windows. The semi-submersible was not a full-on submarine and could not completely submerge nor would it withstand the extreme pressurization of submersing to any depth.
