What is the big deal about this census question? It could serve no purpose unless it is answered honestly. Honesty is in short supply from what I see. Also an illegal immigrant does not have to reply to any census. Will the census form include a definition of what "citizen" is? Will it include natural born, green card, temporary visa, etc.? How many more questions will be added over the years and for what reason? Will the government change the need for a 10 year census to a 1 year census? One wonders.

None of these questions were eliminated. If the issue were racism, wouldn't asking your race qualify more as racism than asking if you are a citizen?

And how can asking your race be acceptable to those crying racism, yet asking if you are a citizen be racist?
And no. The census is used for far more than simply knowing how many people are living in the country. If that were all it was, there would be no need for all the myriad questions asked.

These people are totally nuts!!!...I have never seen people who hate America more,then today's Democratic Party..Kind of sad to see yesterday's Democratic Party to disappear....

Although Article I, Section 2 does not specify that it is citizens which must be counted; it does specify that this will be used to determine each state's representation in the House of Representatives. Since only citizens can vote, it is logical to conclude the enumeration was to count citizens in each state.

Our country was NOT set up for mob rule. There is NO American principle of one person, one vote! At least not at the national level. That would make us a democracy instead of a republic.

What is a citizen is very clear defined by our constitution. "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."
This question is not being added. It is being reinstituted. It is not a new question!
Why would a citizen not answer the question honestly? The constitutional purpose of the census is an enumeration for the purpose of choosing how many representative seats a state gets. For that, we only need an accurate count of citizens. Over the years, many other purposes have been put to the census. But the only purpose required by our constitution is, how many citizens in each state to determine how many seats each state is entitled to in the House of Representatives. So if illegals avoid the census, it won't harm our governing process.
