Proud American . . . You have absolutely nailed that! When that question has been asked down thru the ages since the inception of our country, now all of a sudden it is deemed criminal. You are right, it is totally because Donald Trump wants it included in this census. For the life of me, with all the pissant problems that they have found to take to court. I would venture to guess that the cost to us, the American people, must amount to millions of dollars--all lost. How can the citizens of our country have any respect for those who hold the purse-strings when they pander after every opportunity to persecute someone just because he won the Presidency . . . and they ignor taking care of other items, such as securing our Southern Boarder.

The purpose of the census is to count everyone living in the U.S. as accurately as possible without regard to citizenship, eligibility to vote or documentation. The citizenship question was very specifically designed with the express purpose of reducing the accuracy of the census to meet political goals. As far as it being racist the documents from the top republican redistricting strategist specifically mentions that rigging it with the citizenship question would disadvantage people of color and advantage non Hispanic whites. How is that not racist?

Once again, I agree with you. My daughter-in-law is not a citizen, but she is here legally.

The citizenship question was included on the 1950,1970, 1980, 1990, and 2000 census. Why is it a problem now? Because in the past ten years there has been such a huge increase in wetbacks and nearly 3 million anchor babies born to those wetbacks.
Here is an example of what happens when incarcertated prisoners are counted in a census. How they affect the results.

Having a question about US citizenship in the census does not change the number of people in America. No one said that if you were not an American citizen, you would not be counted. However, financial planning is different when figuring out what the country needs to allow for its citizens, as against finances necessary for the people who are here legally but not citizens, and the illegal invaders do not deserve the same services. The first foolish move was to provide medical care, education, housing and food for those law breakers without requiring anything in return, and not even limiting those gifts to a short period while arrangements are being made to return them to the country from wence they came.
