You were doing just fine until you put the word 'Obama' in there. Now I'm all for it.

But really, what's wrong with selling your pension back to your employer if you want to? There's no law against it (and not likely to be), and in many instances, an individual has the ability to manage investment finances just fine. If they take that cash payout and blow it on whatever their heart desires, then they got what their heart desires. End of story, right?

That is one way to look at it.. And some may feel that to be a good thing..

Like selling you monthly payoff from insurance verdict to a lump sum now.. about 40% of total value, so I have been told.

But I and many others see it as one more method to pressure recipients into giving away their safety net for a lot less then the market value.
how many walking the street can give a present value to any retirement fund or pension?

I could not, would need to dig and hunt before I would have any idea..

And with "buyers" trained to peel away the last dime to get the cheapest buyout possible, they would prey on the working class pensions like vultures on dead meat..

It is one more of the ideas such as "Reverse Mortgage" or whatever it is called.

ultimately the bank is most apt to get your home for far less then if they purchased if from you at the present value/time..

Another great job of debate against a lib troll padre!! My brother worked in construction, when he had to retire because of severe back injury the union said he no longer had insurance because two brothers that ran the health insurance absconded with all the money! Typical union demonrat mafia!

That is truly sad about your brother, makes me hope those crooks spend years behind bars..

My father was in construction. when he retired and in time had health problems, he was amazed that between the new Medicare and the union insurance, he rarely paid for any of his health needs..

It is always different for each individual..

he was a superintendent that built 4 and 5 schools at a time! He had to retire early and fight for disability, was too young for Medicare! Had to wait to go on wife’s insurance that cost over 1200 a month because of Obamacare! Thank you for your condolence!

I do feel bad about your brother..

But the only cases I have heard where people got such a bad deal because of the ACA have been on OPP and other right wing postings..

can not tell you anything good, as an old geezer, my only negative was with the 2017 GOP spending bill which removed my supplemental insurance and is costing both in money and access to drugs i get each month.

but I bet none of our elected body has had to hunt and peck to find their insurance..

In the old days, I was refused coverage, so I want 5 plus years without insurance.. Lucky for me, nothing real bad happened..

good lord bless and keeps me....

would be a great day indeed when I stand around with that kitten..LOL

As you may well know, with sorta strange people up in this neck of the woods, we have a bunch of animal nutcases..

one of those kept a tiger for some years.. large one, excess of 500 lbs..

they kept it in a chicken wire enclosed when it was not in the house... ran with the horses for fun and met the kids at the top of the drive when they came home from school.. bus driver got all upset...then the kids would walk to the house (about a half block) with the tiger.. As a very young kitten, about 20lbs or less, it also stalked my wife in the coop store of the time and she long liked to repeat that.

They got tired of feeding it a half dozen chickens and it got a new home down south at a shelter/zoo...

Next story will be about our exclusive "water cats" never found anywhere else... that i know of..

Much more common at our house..

With no fanfare in early March, the Treasury Department issued a notice that allows employers to buy out current retirees from their pensions with a one-time lump sum payment. The decision reverses Obama-era guidance, issued in 2015, that had effectively banned the practice after officials determined that lump-sum payments often shortchanged seniors.

Pick your poison, it's up to the individual. Mike

I am in fear that the Republicans will cut my social security and Medicare benefits. I spent decades putting into these programs. I also see whear govermnents do not plan for the future and now are burdened by pension plans. All this so the rich don't pay their fair share of taxes.

As long as the Democrats and some Republicans control the $$$, they will spend outrageously for anything that lines their pockets. I say we bring them home and meet in Washington only when needed. In the age of face time and skype, why do they need to live in the Swamplands?
