He was willing. Repubs weren't. This is all very well documented. I guess you have trouble seeing that your heroes and heroines in Congress -- the Repubs -- just could stand not having things exactly their way.

if you tell a lie often enough some will believe it but you can't tell that one enough to get intelligent people to believe it

I don't disagree with that. The efforts Obama made early and well into his first term to compromise with Republicans are very well documented.

Boehner found that he could not control the members of his own party in the House. That was what made the deals fall through. Boehner thought he could broker a compromise that would satisfy both sides, and then when push came to shove he couldn't. Those experiences are why Boehner is showing signs of being fed up with the conservatives in his party.

After having c*********d a number of times and getting nothing in return but the anger of progressives, Obama finally understood very well that Republican/conservatives were unwilling to compromise so he decided that he would not longer try. It is all well documented.
