I am definitely a true liberal. I am proud of this fact, not ashamed. I find that generally the conservatives and the Republicans have a short-sighted, stingy view of things that threatens everyone, including themselves.

Democrats as a whole are great when it's not their money.

I am extremely charitable with my own. Money spent by the govt isn't your money. It is everyone's money. If you want to be stingy and not help other people I suggest you go live alone on an island in the middle of the Pacific, or perhaps in the Canadian northwoods 100 miles from neighbors. I guess liberal;s have a much better sense of morality than do conservatives.

This thread started out very nice. It must be true that crap runs downill. Let's keep being thankful for what we have had and for what we have left. Only God knows where this will end up. I pray it begins to go uphill before we all turn on each other.

I noticed we have the same old devolving going on. For those who have yet to say what you are grateful for in being Americans, it would be good for the rest of us to know if you even care about America or are just part of a Right Wing conspiracy to ruin this country.
Gratitude is part of my everyday discipline, which is not a boast but a tool I know helps keep me alive and well. A stroll through any supermarket in this country should have us bursting with thanksgiving; I am frequently awed by the abundance. Clean water. That as a nation we still find out about our mistakes and rectify them as best we can. Despite many comments about the media, that we honor and still have a free press (Fox, Beck, and Limbugh are part of the media). That we still look to be the good guys in this world, such as rebuilding the countries of our enemies and helping the less fortunate countries and those that have suffered from disasters. That we are still willing to make the sacrifices and effort to stand for democracy.

Many here have given up on the great ideals that formed this nation and have been and remain part of its growth, calling for secession or open r*******n. Many here have given up on the optimism and hope this country has given both its own citizens and the world, promoting partisan war, fear, hatred and a lack of compromise to find solutions to the present problems that besiege America. I love America and want it to be strong, but this d******eness is a stake in the heart of all this great nation stands for.
I noticed we have the same old devolving going on.... (show quote)

Many nations have no or few chances to change their political landscape, we have a chance every two years. I am grateful for that. We have been swinging back and forth, between parties, for years and years. I expect we'll keep on doing it too. Maybe, hopefully, people will stop the madness and give independents a chance to screw things up next year. :P
