Gun control is a ridiculous concept? Tell that to Canada, Australia, and all of Europe. All these nations look at our gun violence and shake their heads in disbelief. The death rates from guns for all of these nations is dramatically lower than the rate in the U.S. The U.S. has much to learn from other nations. If you want to hunt Bambi, use a single shot rifle. Other than the police no one needs a handgun or semi-automatic weapon.

That's true, although a problem exists. They made these measures standard a long time ago. They also made adjustments. English Bobbies didn't carry guns themselves for years, they do now. Only "heat of the moment" k*****gs dropped from guns. Knives, bats, pipes etc. remain very much available.

Nor do most of the politicians who promulgate them. I concur with your statement, except when someone has their weapon out, you'd be surprised how many times they miss. Try the oh so popular "thug sideways grip." Go ahead, raise your handgun sideways and jerk the trigger. See how your point blank accuracy works. This is when you don't have adrenalin pumping. Perhaps this is not a valid comparison, but I missed a shot, point blank, at my first deer. This was taken with a hangun because my rifle was slung. Mr. "I shot the center out of the x ring," had a chance at his very first deer, rushed the shot and missed. Damn that was embarrassing! My point is that having a gun out and pointed does not guarantee a hit, even by a very experienced shooter, in the "heat of the moment."

That's why cops have to fire a full clip to take someone down. Training only goes so far. Cops get k**led because the criminals shoot first. My first human k**l would not have occurred if my weapon had not been on full auto, I'd be dead too.

If I may interject, there is a certain type of personality who appears to crave being submissive. Police, to them, represent "AUTHORITY." In other words, they are afraid to defend themselves, so they put their faith in anything that seems a viable alternative to getting their own hands dirty. Since they are incapable of taking responsibility for their own safety, they feel no one should be able to do so. This is their conception of a "level playing field." They prefer to abdicate control over their own lives and affairs to some faceless, omniscient, and yet somehow magically always benevolent "AUTHORITY," and insist that everyone else do so. They are incapable of using deadly force to defend themselves from deadly force. They are fairly elegant proof of the shortcomings of the "Origin of Species," because in a truly Darwinian environment, they would quickly become extinct. These are the same people who are quick to decry the "brutality" of hunting, and just as quick to ignore it in the slaughterhouse. They are somehow ethically superior because rather than k**l their own meat, they pay someone else to do the deed. This is why they attach such slavish devotion to "AUTHORITY." It represents competence, courage and decisiveness. Everything they are not. They just cannot stand to see another person not included in their version of "AUTHORITY" posess those attributes they so glaringly lack, hence their insistence on someone else controlling everything. They cannot order their own affairs, and are infuriated by those who can.

I personally know some folks who were ardent gun control advocates, until they were carjacked or mugged at an ATM. It is amazing how personal experience influences decision changes. The loudest voices are usually the most ignorant.

It's called "assailing the mountain of reality from the molehill of unfamiliarity with same."

I'm afraid not. I don't have a clue, unless you could possibly remind me, and that's no given!

Officer,
I am sorry to disagree with your view of the public legally possessing firearms. Personally, I do not own any firearms, do not want to possess any firearms, and what seems to be happening in schools and other public places made me question the Second Amendment.
But, as I stated in an earlier entry on this topic, a good example of why there is a Second Amendment, and it must stay is what happened in Athens Tennessee in the thirties and forties of the last century.
Go to the site listed below and watch a 15 or 20 minute historical video.

https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/U5ut6yPrObw?rel=0

It is a perfect example of why the Second Amendment exists and we are blessed to have it.
This is meant to be a free country, our Democratic Freedom was fought for before, and we must be prepared to fight for it again.
And I know this is a not so often type of event, but we must all be prepared, and we must be legally allowed to be prepared.
