Selfless does not mean without a self but without self-interest.

Self-sacrificing, which means being other-centered, putting their needs and ultimate well-being ahead of one's own. This can be done purely, no ego involved, through a complete surrender to love. Love is the very power and nature of God out of which all aspects of his character come, such as both mercy and justice.

In this complete surrender, the unique soul God created acts in its exact nature (by his image and likeness) without intent but as a perfect instrument of God as his design. All thoughts of personal reward or of particular results, of safety, of comfort, of desire, or of pleasure are gone. This is being "poor of spirit," the worldly part of our existence that usually is an obsession and focus.

Merry Christmas!

Paul defines Christian love for an immoral sinner:

3 For I, on my part, though absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged him who has so committed this, as though I were present. 4 In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assembled, and I with you in spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus, 5 I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
Do you not judge those who are within the church? Remove the wicked man from among yourselves.

"Destruction of the flesh" (our selfishness and self-centeredness) is selflessness, for the good of the spirit of God, not of man, within us. Yes.

Nevertheless, love involves judging, and turning over to Satan, and removing from among ourselves.

My point is that those things are not necessarily unloving, or indicators of wrong doing, or un-Christian behavior.

They could occur out of a desire to save, and out of love for other people, and out of altruistic motives.

And conversely, not judging, accepting someone just as they are, and keeping them in our communities could occur out of wrong, or selfish, or non-altruistic motives.

You have to be honest in your heart and obedient to your conscience to know you are making the right choice. Follow the Spirit's leading, and make sure you are not being led astray by the devil.

Jay-are, this may be the third or fourth time I have repeated this: God is love and out of this love comes all of his character, such as mercy and justice. I also said this on your thread about "judge not." Love and judgment are not and cannot be separated; judgment is part of God's justice and thus relies wholly on love and nothing else.

Good comment. Thinking in a higher level of understanding, The darkness cannot come into the Light, unless you turn your switch off, then the Light is literally gone, and you have only dark. The two do not mix within themselves except within mankind which is both Good, plus Evil at the same time. Loveingly, God extracts his Light (your spirit) from the darkness of your life you have lived. Hopefully there is enough Light within you, to bring into the overall Spiritual Heaven, which is our Spiritual God (only light). This is why Judgment, as God removes the darkness from within us, to gather his Light

Good luck with JR, he has drawn up his draw strings of understanding and chooses to dwell in his unresolved issues held within himself. Maybe at some point, instead of feeding off his own sorrow, God will grant him understanding of that age old evil his soul has succumbed to and eventually rend the seems to a new understanding giving of in Jesus Christ.

Mine was Awesome rumi, thank you, I had to work both Christmas Eve and Christmas day but in my line of work, my clients really showered me with love and gifts. It was great. Phone calls to family of course to complete it. How was yours? Are you where you had a snowy Christmas?

True love (God is love) is pure....no judgment allowed, because there is ONLY love. When/if you ever experience it, you will understand. Until then, you have my sympathy....as again, no matter your other subject on judging.....no one has the right to judge another. And, as the pendulum swings, that will somehow be brought home to you....don't know how....but it will. From that will come understanding. You are bringing it upon yourself.

Went up into the mountains above where I live to a friend's house; it was plenty white there, snow I mean. Love snow and perfect for the day. Yes, a very warm and peaceful day, thank you.

That explains Christ's many parables of people being cast into outer darkness. No judgment there at all.

You have my pity.

Pity isn't needed. Knowledge is.
Why don't you become really, really brave...and google when Christ was ACTUALLY born, which wasn't in December. Then google t***hs of the Bible based on history.
Won't do it?
Fraidy cat!
Knowledge is the light of the world.
You live in darkness.....and there is NO pity for a mind that is deliberately closed to the light. Stumble around in the darkness.

Tell me is it easier to say, "You have my pity" or to say, "you have my sympathy"? Does the one mean different than the other?

If you believe in Google, Google "sympathy synonyms."

You are of two faces and hypercritical concerning your dealings with others. Jesus is the light of the world. And the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.

9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
