Compromise in itself is not such a good thing. We " c*********d" our way to 17 trillion in debt. I grease your district and you grease mine. That's how most of the PORK finds its way into bills. COMPROMISE.

But I do recall the good old days of compromise when President Bush pushed for and signed Ted Kennedy's NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND. And Paul Sarbanes Sarbanes Oxley bill. How many GOP Bills has Obama signed? ZERO.

You just described why the line item veto is necessary .

I fully support a line item veto. Reagan was the first to ask for it. GOP Congress finally gave it to Clinton in 1996 but it was found Unconstitutional.

So then you agree that President Obama should compromise and not shut down the government just because the Republicans won't fund Obamacare. Good.

Obama's not threatening to shut down government ,your own Republican party knows this . ACA is law , and to repeal or adjust any provisions, is a separate issue .
You know it and I know it . As well as CRUZ .
Your argument here is based on a false premise .

Obama stated that if congress sends him a CR that doesn't include funding for ACA, he will veto it. Doing so will shut down the government. But, he's not threatening to shut down government. Interesting logic there.

Also, they're not my own Republican party, I already told you I'm libertarian.

the ACA is what is known as a poison pill , and Obama did not set up the strategy to shut the government down if he vetoes the bill he said he would veto any bill that include removing the funding for the ACA , it was a strategy on the part of the Republicans not the president

the reference was to income tax not consumption taxes and usage taxes , the first one is generally progressive and the others regressive

There are a lot of companies that offer direct deposit and the people get a stub but I am assuming from the people that I have talked to that most don't even look at what is paid in taxes. Most of the people only look at what the amount deposited was and hardly glance at anything else. If they even looked at what is going for taxes it is only a momentary glance and then they continue on with life. To many actually think that the government just gives them money just like the welfare class. I got a refund not realizing the amount was paid by them in the first place. If they physically had to write a check to the federal government every week or every month or at the end of the year especially they would realize what they are paying it and call for it to stop.

So, because he warned the Repubs that means when he vetoes the bill, thereby shutting down govt, it's not him doing it?

Using the same logic, if a mugger tells you to give him your wallet or he'll shoot you, and you refuse, then when you get shot you did it to yourself?

What's all the fuss about? The republicans passed a bill that they knew didn't have a chance of going anywhere just to appease the baggers in their party.Republicans have taken party politics to a new level at the cost of America

Interesting!!

Are all political chat sites meant to be strictly conservative? Of course not. They are meant for the free exchange of varying viewpoints. I'm not a liberal, but I am a Democrat. I am supportive of social programs that promote health and well being, and the preservation of the environment. I am not supportive of restrictive laws, programs, etc. that don't make sense in the 21st century - examples: I support more restrictive gun control (for the painfully obvious and visible reasons) and the open availability of a******ns.

These positions don't make me a liberal - just not a conservative. There is a middle ground and it's huge. Note my nom de plume.
