Same direction. A little more slowly perhaps. Presidents generally do not do things a heck of a lot differently than their predecessors and Romney's record isn't unusually conservative - or liberal. Would he stop the Syrians for gassing their own people? He might try, just like Obama might try, but he wouldn't succeed just like Obama won't. Those people have been doing far worse things to each other than gas for millenia. What's a little gas to folks who torture, and behead each other with pocket knives? This is a religious war between the sons of Mohammed and the sons of Ali. Its been ongoing for 1300 years. They won't quit because we tell them to. Other than completely annihilating them with a total nuclear barrage, what could do anything to stop them except themselves?

Good estimation . I say that no matter who is the President , world events have their predestined direction . Fools wrap themselves in politics never realizing that politics conform to he same direction the world is heading . Here we engage in useless banter , only to mark time .

Just a frame of reference dville. I'm quite sure that if you make it to heaven and sneak a peek up God's robe you won't see a Divine Penis. And what do you mean by "this is just another case of religions invading politics and still wanting to hold on to their lucrative tax exempt status"? Me commenting in this post? I don't have a tax exempt status. I'm for a national sales tax. Nobody would be exempt. But for the record, churches have been tax exempt since before the founding of the nation. In fact, there were several occasions after our nation's birth where state or local governments passed legislation to specifically exempt churches. Nobody cared then if politics was part of the conversation in a church. It wasn't until the mid 1950's that we decided to revolk a church's tax exempt status for speaking about politics. I don't know what was going on then but it doesn't take much to figure out who would profit politically by silencing the churches. Chalk one up for the secular humanists. You give me the impression that you're pissed at Christians and churches. I've been there too, but if I stay in that place too long I end up drinking and that , for me, is a very bad thing.

Thanks. An affirmation by you is valuable to me even if I pretended it wasn't. I'm an optimist by nature, so I hope that our banter is not useless; that, in fact, it inspires thought in the minds of some who may read these posts, even if we never find out.

No matter what we do, it will have no effect on the outcome. It is programmed to an already decided end. For us to get involved is just stupid and ignorant. Hey! That describes this administration perfectly.

The only exception I might take to your statement is the part about the programmed end. The Syrians could change their behavior. There's nothing stopping them from doing so except themselves, but, as you say, we certainly won't change them.

I should hope your aversion to tax exempt status for political use of religion would extend to the Reverends Jackson and Sharpton.

Tax Exempt Status should be reserved for Charities .PERIOD .

Everything else is just a tax dodging s**m , including Churches , political "education groups " etc .
Either you're a total non-profit, no preaching, only dispensing food, shelter, free medical services , and clothing or you pay taxes like everyone else .

I want to be tax exempt, why can't I be like everyone else?

Especially from sales tax. I have a hard time understanding why i have to pay a tax on things I buy. Why isn't the tax on the guy who sells it. He is the one taking in the money. Give me tax relief on those things, after all. it is just really sanctioned robbery.

No one is 100% tax exempt bro. That fellow you shell your money out to and pay sales tax on on the goods you buy pays sales taxes on the stuff he gets from his vendor too. If you think about it a sales tax is a heck of a lot less invasive than the payroll tax. With a payroll the government picks your pocket before you even see your hard earned dough, unless you do what I do and exempt yourself from the payroll tax and just pay up at tax time. If everybody did that their perspective on taxes would change, that's for sure. I'd rather see the payroll tax done away with and see a national sales tax. No one would be exempt. Everyone would pay their fair share and if you're frugal, you pay less in taxes. A national sales tax would sorta reward savings.

I dunno. They could always launder some, right? There's more than one way to skin a cat (what a gross saying! I don't even want to know where it comes from).
