Two points, doctors die, retire, sell their practice, move and go to jail for the same reasons as anyone else. There are good doctors and lousy doctors who should be out of practice.
Next, as far as the 'alleged' shortage of doctors, check to see the availability of slots at ANY medical school, they are full with waiting lists for any openings due to drop-outs and flunk-outs. The doctor shortage has always been contrived and always will be, fewer doctors mean higher costs.
All of you free market advocates should understand that.

And you lose doctors. We have a shortage right now. You make the profession less attractive to the best and brightest. What happens next? Medical Boards are made easier so more can pass.

With a growing, aging population, the demand for physicians will intensify over the coming years. According to AAMC estimates, the United States faces a shortage of more than 90,000 physicians by 2020—a number that will grow to more than 130,000 by 2025.

You have no proof. Pure speculation. And what exactly will these doctors be doing when they leave on a massive scale? Become lawyers? Burger flippers? Vegas strippers? The issue is money. They will only leave "on a massive scale" because they feel they won't make enough. It has nothing to do with "the best and brightest" answering their calling. It's all about filling their bank account. And that's why we have a problem with healthcare. It's driven by money. It has nothing to do with quality of care. The top 1% (that would be me), will always have better care than the remaining 99%. Because I can afford it. But the vast majority in the country can't. And frankly that's not fair.

I have researched sources from both left right and middle and all of them are reporting the same projected doctor shortage. As you said some will retire or die while young people will seek other fields of study and reject the debt incurred by medical school. Its called attrition. I would agree that many are lured by the money. Spending years and years in school at enormous costs should have some financial benefit should it not?

You will lose them on a massive scale with single payer. And in the end we will pay more for subpar healthcare.

it doesn't matter who sends the money to the govt. the worker is the one that pays

We also have the baby boomer issue. Baby Boomer docs retiring while the largest generation in US History grows old and requires more healthcare.

But your linked article simply proves the point. There will be a doctor shortage because there aren't enough people going to medical school. It says nothing about the reason being lower compensation. It also says that due to federal cut backs of federally paid residency internships, that the free/private market won't pay for these residencies to pick up the slack. So the government has to pay for residencies but has no say in how they are compensated? And the private market pays nothing, but then chooses what coverage they'll accept? That's not free enterprise. That's theft.

So there aren't enough attending medical school so lowering their projected compensation will convince more to attend? How so?

Because they want to be a doctor. Because they need a job. Because it pays more than pretty much every other job out there. Because if you're getting into this business, and want to make the most, you go do facelifts, not pediatrics. If you're driven by money, you go where the most can be made. If you're in it because you want to help people, then you do the job, get paid for it, and get on with it.

And paying them less will encourage more to attend medical school? I do not see the logic here

Filled with waste and fraud and massive overrun of projected costs.
