Well I must admit....I never knew or noticed the little arrow on the gas gauge to let you know which side of the car to fill the gas tank.

It just goes to show how much we read the owners manual.

Did that come with the car, or was it an extra?

I'm like you, didn't know about the arrow but I always knew which side for gas. I always like the Ford I had, it was behind the license plate.

At least is was better than VW, open the trunk (front hood) 8 gallon bomb. Later VW moved the filler to the passengers side but the gas was still right in front. The Pinto wins for the far worse.

Yes: I remember the Pinto:

A Malotav (Sp?) cocktail on wheels.

The Ford Pinto memo , which ruthlessly calculates the cost of reinforcing the rear end ($121 million) versus the potential payout to victims ($50 million). Conclusion? Let 'em burn.

That sums up Fords better idea at the time! They knew, they didn't care.

Guess I am behind the times, my Ford gas cap is just forward of windshield behind the chrome cowl strip. Neat old car but needs a little front end work as with all 'A's

I'm guessing a gravity fuel pump rather than electric in the fuel tank with a fuel filter that the average consumer could change. Who's bright idea was to install it in the gas tank?
