Another area of mutual agreement! I am technically eligible for food stamps. But between my garden and willingness/preference for made from scratch foods, (bread, stews, casseroles), a frugal nature, a home with a kitchen, storage and fridge/freezer, I have more than enough for a frail old lady to eat. I worry for my homeless friends who have none of these things.
I agree it is selfish to take more than one needs.

We could apply for food stamps also, but grow our own vegetables, help the neighbors with their chickens and get eggs in return, plus goat milk and cheese when they have extra. Both the neighbors and we take food to the food pantry and help prepare meals for those who are disabled. Right now with snow and ice covering everything we can't go out much but a neighbor has a heavy duty Jeep and they make the food deliveries and we cook the food. We live simply as does everybody else in this mountain region, but we have fun and a satisfying life, what more can anyone ask for?

Whether eternal reward/punishment or secular freedom/incarceration, I agree that frugality and charity/'giving alms" are extremely satisfying when unencumbered by threat. Athieism has taught me that being good for goodness' sake promotes a healthy self esteem as opposed to resentment I often hear expressed from those who feel obligated to do so. How sad so many, secular and religious, do "their duty," not realizing the rewards!

I would be proud to have you for a neighbor. I live in the house left to me by my Grandmother. I drive the car or truck also left to me. Old but trustworthy. I grow most of my own food. I refuse to eat GE foods. My happy hens provide eggs. My orchards provide fruit. My power company h**es me due to the solar panels which make my bill run an average of 25.00 per month.

Our community has a food bank. Since most of us grow our own food, it is stocked with fresh fruits and veggies. We have meals in the community center for seniors or anyone who is hungry. We help each other in times of need. On holidays we have dinners for those without family.

The best decision I have ever made was moving into this house where the spirit of happiness has ruled for generations. Every room has a happy memory. I think it made me a better person. I know I am truly blessed with the best neighbors. We may appear to be a little strange to the throw away world but we are happy.

Hmmm....
What you say is not true about the Bible "also teaches Christians to subject and submit themselves to their earthy masters and rulers as if to God." False. Explaining that would take a while...for someone who has not studied the NT.

The actual quote concludes, "...we will be governed by Texans," not tyrants.

You are a wretched piece of work, Pennylynn, devaluing any American by belief or idea as to be less than you.

Miss Manners teaches me that while making a tangential comment in a conversation is reasonable and a polite option, one should allow one's host the choice of steering into major shifts in topic or bringing the conversation back to the original subject.

I will follow that convention here.

If you are truly interested in my humble thoughts, feel free to PM me. This question, as stated is much too broad for a cohesive answer in short format. Perhaps you might be more specific in personal conversation.

Ok, but Christ made it abundantly clear: there is no physical kingdom anymore, only a spiritual one. All countries. including America. fall well short of the mark.

I will be completely honest here. When it comes to laws, I will obey them as long as they are not in conflict with the laws of my faith. My first and foremost duty is to my God, then my family and then my fellow man.

To my faith, greed is one of the absolute worst things a person can practice. Live simply so others may simply live. This country has become a breeding ground for h**eful, selfish, and dishonest people. America legislates misery for a good portion of the people.

We have been brainwashed into thinking things will make me happy. They won't. When we leave this world, we can not take them with us. We can leave this world a little better than we found it. I have worked to give my family a better life but I will not do this at the expense of my fellow man.

Nowhere does the Bible in the NT teach Christians to subject and submit themselves to their earthly masters and rulers as if to God; that is a shallow misconception of Romans Thirteen. But one that seems obvious.

And why in the heck would I want to have a private conversation with you? How silly of you!

Pennylynn ugliness in full glory; You are one very dangerous creature to liberty, decency, and freedom. You have no core.
