Another area of mutual agreement! I am technically eligible for food stamps. But between my garden and willingness/preference for made from scratch foods, (bread, stews, casseroles), a frugal nature, a home with a kitchen, storage and fridge/freezer, I have more than enough for a frail old lady to eat. I worry for my homeless friends who have none of these things.
I agree it is selfish to take more than one needs.
We could apply for food stamps also, but grow our own vegetables, help the neighbors with their chickens and get eggs in return, plus goat milk and cheese when they have extra. Both the neighbors and we take food to the food pantry and help prepare meals for those who are disabled. Right now with snow and ice covering everything we can't go out much but a neighbor has a heavy duty Jeep and they make the food deliveries and we cook the food. We live simply as does everybody else in this mountain region, but we have fun and a satisfying life, what more can anyone ask for?
