Without parental consent, then, what would it be? More than about 5000?

Are you saying, also, government doesn't have the right to come into your parent's house and take 17 year-old's without their consent? So we haven't reached to level of N**i Germany yet?

That was the reasoning given to give them the v**e. Young men were dieing for their country, yet they could not v**e and that was wrong. What is wrong with this thinking is that most people at age 17 to 20 are NOT going to go in the military unless they are drafted. Women especially will not go in the military and will not fight for our country. Sure there are a few that will, but most simply want other things then fighting and possibly dieing and the military life is not for most of them.

Now this is going to draw some flak from women, but most go in the military because they are from small towns and do not have a very large population of men to choose from and/or the jobs in that area are dead end jobs that lead nowhere.

Most women get married for money (security) and will not stay in an area where there is no (to them) future. 50% of the women get married for security and that equates to more money, where only 5% get married for love. On the other hand, men are suckers. About 50% get married for love and only find out that their wife never did love them after they were married, IF they ever do find out. Most don't.

What this boils down to is, most people at that age are interested in getting married, not fighting for their country, whereas in 1776 things were MUCH different. Life as a whole was much harder back then and people grew up much faster then they do now living in their protected lives. We no longer have to worry about Indians k*****g us, sickness, dirty water and towns, no doctors to speak of and not very much knowledge in that profession anyway, shorter life spans and a slew of other things that led to them growing up faster then we do today.

Their education system was MUCH different too and they learned the facts of life right from their own homes instead of hearing about it in history books like we do. They learned to read using the Bible, not some fancy reader like we use now and we also learned about religion DIRECTLY from the Bible and churches unlike now where most people NEVER read the Bible. Sure they go to church and learn about it there, but that is not the same as reading it for themselves.

In short, our lives are much different then it was back then.............

You say: "That was the reasoning given to give them the v**e. Young men were dieing for their country,"

Sometime in the coming week, I will post a thread on how and why pre-teens suddenly lose the ability to think causally, and how this continues into the teen years, when adolescents realize their parents are nincompoops, and it is not until young people reach the 20's that they become aware their parents actually weren't all that moronic. It's commonly known among child development psychologists.

But you'll have to wait. No instantaneous gratification here.

Jeez, did you even read my post, Anthony? Or having read it, did you understand it?

I get your point about younger people and women, but if you're trying to say they are too emotional to have any say in how society should run, I can't agree. If i misconstrued that, sorry.

I didn't say anything about emotions. Unless you're referring to my comment about the idealism of youth.

But that is secondary to my contention that young people lack the experience to apply "the proper assessment of past and present..." Well, you should know the rest of this by now.

The surprising ages of the Founding Fathers on July 4, 1776  AUG 13 2013

For the Journal of the American Revolution, Todd Andrlik compiled a list of the ages of the key participants in the Revolutionary War as of July 4, 1776. Many of them were surprisingly young:

Marquis de Lafayette, 18
James Monroe, 18
Gilbert Stuart, 20
Aaron Burr, 20
Alexander Hamilton, 21
Betsy Ross, 24
James Madison, 25

This is kind of blowing my mind...because of the compression of history, I'd always assumed all these people were around the same age. But in thinking about it, all startups need young people...Hamilton, Lafayette, and Burr were perhaps the Gates, Jobs, and Zuckerberg of the War. Some more ages, just for reference:

Thomas Jefferson, 33
John Adams, 40
Paul Revere, 41
George Washington, 44
Samuel Adams, 53
I was 17 when I went into the military, during the Vietnam war. Could not v**e, could not drink, but I could die.

Yes and don't forget that their principal school book was the bible. They also were taught to respect their elders and to respect women back then as well. It is this degree of respect for authority that made them such a magnificent fighting force. they knew right from wrong and had decided it was better to die fighting for the right than to accept the King and his tyranny.

Our youth of today our taught revisionist history and c*******m in grade school as well as high school where they become more brainwashed. After that they are sent to colleges that are run by the liberal l*****ts with their pie in the sky ideals. They come out not knowing right from wrong nor do they respect their elders and their wisdom. All we have left in a lot of cases is the OWS crowd. Our children are coming out of college today and are ill equipped to confront the world or even take control of their own lives. A good number are now living in their parents basements and we expect them to know how to v**e.

If you don't believe that we are dumbing down our youth listen to Waynes world on Fox news channel put out by Bill O'riley. These college graduates or attendees can't tell you what ocean is on either coast of America. They don't know who the vice president is. They don't know diddley squat about American History or our founding ideals nor the principals that govern this once great country.

They have been taught that God is dead and the government is all that they need and to worship the government. God and the ten commandments have been removed from the schools and have been replaced by metal detectors and four or more full time policemen in every school. Our streets are unsafe to walk after dark and crime is on the increase. We are headed in the wrong direction and nobody seems to have the balls to say it. At our present rate of decay we are doomed to oblivion in less than ten years would be my guess. What we need now is that cowboy who jumps down off of the seat of the stagecoach and grabs the reigns of the horses running at full speed and reigns them in and the people are saved. Otherwise we are going to go over the cliff that is dead ahead and all will parish.

I think all they are being taught is that being born white is a "privilege".

Apparently, it's something government gives you. And not an inalienable right, which is something nature and nature's God gives you.

I think you mean "Watters' World". "Wayne's World" was a regular SNL sketch which was spun into a movie. It took me a minute to figure this one out.

Exactly. And if you're not familiar with the emoticons there's another one which means you're laughing really hard, second from the left in the fourth row.

Purple. Just look to your left as you're typing your reply and you'll see the smilies. I know you're familiar with the thumbs-up because you used it earlier.
