I don't blame his mom, he will always be her son, but what about his victims?? Like youngest victim, Jackson Sparks who will never grow up, or go to school, have his birthdays, or get married someday...What about his family??? In my opinion he's right where he should be in prison....I hope for life!!
I believe he has a mental problem also . One that shouldn't allow him back on the streets. He is a menace to society and should remain locked up for everyone's safety.

I'm afraid that this will be an excuse to lessen bail to amount that will be able to get out again under mental illness pretense...

"We are not making excuses but……”. Blame it on the system. Another example of it being someone else’s fault. I don’t believe in the insanity plea. Bottom line is people need to be responsible and accountable for their own actions.

The majority of people we have locked up are suffering from untreated mental illness.

Mom sure has a lot of suggestions now blaming everyone/everything on everyone other than she, family etc..
why didn’t she advocate for these things to “ help” years earlier knowing her son better than any??? Did she fight after released from jail on other issues before?? Did she seek court intervention to help get in him back into a facility to help him as she could have done?
Personally I found this nothing more than a ploy; The letter signed by Brooks' mother, Dawn Woods, and family said, in part, "We are not making excuses but we believe what has happened is because he was not given the help and resources he needed. Institutions that are equipped and have trained staff is what was needed as well as resources in the communities where people who suffer with mental illness live."
Now, I also have to say I agree with “ Mental illness affects every walk of life and dwells in every community.” It is not society that can identify or force someone into treatment tho, that has to come from the family or a judge if facts confirm the person a threat to himself or society..
Yes mental illness is a problem and hopefully this guy will “ now get put away for life” in a mental institution if that is a real defense he has or in jail if it is not….

One could argue that anyone who commits a crime, especially of this magnitude, has some level of mental illness. It obviously is not the actions of a mentally healthy person. Therefore I don’t agree with the “for reasons of insanity” defense. You’re first paragraph is spot on. Thus my earlier post about the family blaming it on the system. Never taking a scintilla of responsibility themselves and certainly taking all form of responsibility away from this evil animal. I believe this is just one example of the decades long indoctrination of the nanny state.

Too many cases are played on the insanity defense which is abhorrent in the judicial process. While some are valid the majority are not.
And yes JR a perfect example of decades long indoctrination of the nanny state mentality!!!

Darrel Brooks in his first jailhouse statement, says he's being treated like he's a monster.
