At least their memory lives on. Muscle cars are immortal. No replacement for displacement

A good friend of mine was one of the Marlboro men in the ads in the late 60s. He didn't smoke.

I'm waiting for someone to try to bring a court case about that. Allegations are a dime a dozen.

You are dealing with juveniles who are best ignored.

Juveniles cannot always be just ignored. Sometimes they cause damage, such as to other juveniles or even to adults. In my opinion the people who invaded the Capitol building on J*** 6 also acted like juveniles and did various damages or bad things, including k*****g one police officer.

But you're right, mainly, I think (but I'm still not quite sure). Now, where are the better discussions? Do I have to attend graduate school classes to find them? Can't ordinary people have good discussions without needing to enroll in classes for them?

And what are we to do with the tens of millions of ignorant and careless v**ers? Talk with them? I think a lot of them act like juveniles but we can't just write them off, and that's because they have v****g power.

One trait of a lefty is lack of humor.

How many lefties does it take to change a light bulb?

THAT'S NOT FUNNY!

Politically left people have lots of humor. It's just often a different kind, or with different topics or about different people from the ones politically right people joke about. Sometimes politically left people have a subtle humor that politically right people just think is smugness or condescension (and sometimes it's those things too, in addition to being humor).

On the other hand, many politically left people do spend a lot of time trying to be serious. In my experience, a politically right person is mainly concerned with how much money he can get for himself, while a politically left person is mainly concerned with meaning and people and the future.

Donald Trump is an interesting example. I think of him as a politically right person. His stock in trade is to disparage other people. Many v**ers love that because he appears to h**e the same people they h**e. And jokes -- the mean-spirited kind -- are a pretty effective way to disparage and to embody hatred or to embody disdain.

So when Donald Trump, whom I regard as politically right, tries to get something done, he just tells disparaging "jokes" or slurs, or fires somebody, or finds a popular hatred to stir up so that somebody else will do the dirty work. A vast number of people are comfortable with that because it doesn't take much thought, while they are uncomfortable with politically left people who are busy with meaning and serving large numbers of people and the future, which are more difficult topics to have to think about.

I can't really call Joe Biden politically left; he's too centrist for that. Of course he's way left of Mr. Trump. One day I heard AOC talk about the Green New Deal; that's a good example of what's politically left: it's new, it's long-term thinking, it's designed to serve the vast majority of people over a very long time, it doesn't fit neatly into sound bytes, and it's easy to criticize because it's new and complex and can't be developed nor explained fully all in a short time. One has to be serious to appreciate a Green New Deal. One has to be serious and daring to propose such a thing. It's much more complex to think about than just how much money one can get for oneself.

What little itsy bitsy % of you is r****t? L*****t don't give a person a break on r****m. To them, you could be 99.999% non r****t but they would still categorize you as r****t if you slipped up once in 50 years or if you happen to be white and are 100% non r****t, to a l*****t, you are still r****t.

Not so.

There are some people who do fit your description, but certainly not all "l*****ts".

The problem you describe is all-or-nothing, absolutist thinking. I encounter it too. I don't like it either.

It is better to recognize that there are degrees of things.

Virtually all people are biased in one way or another. R****m is similar to bias.

People have to learn to adjust to the world and the people, and to do that quickly enough, they typically have to make some superficial judgements (such as by stereotyping), at least occasionally. As they learn more, they can see more deeply, for example they can see more of the worth of a person than just their superficial so-called "race".

Whether a person is r****t or not, the person very likely has _some_ kind of bias which, if it were examined closely, would turn out to be an unfair or wrong bias.

(Disclaimer: I don't have any formal education in this stuff. Anyone can evaluate this much, with or without a formal education in it.)

I consider myself a little bit r****t, a little bit (or maybe more) sexist, and a little bit of lots of things like that. I try to become a little bit better person, less r****t, less sexist, and less wrongly biased generally.

The dangerous or detrimental people are the ones who don't recognize their own fallibility and don't happen to be right about every significant thing.
Virtually all people are biased in one way or anot... (show quote)

Everyone has bias. The more dangerous people are those who continually fuel r****m and bigotry.
