To those who are not 'worried' about ebola becoming an epidemic here in the US, let's take a little trip down history lane.

Typhoid Mary didn't think she was infecting anyone. How many died because of her?

Native American Indians had no idea the diseases the Europeans were bringing with them would wipe out entire villages.

The black plague decimated a THIRD of the WORLD'S population.

Leprosy ran rampant in the ancient world.

Tuberculosis and polio were running rampant in the US. Those diseases were pretty much eradicated...until now.

And for those who don't think these diseases are making a comeback:

Lynda Phillips was a school counselor in El Paso, Texas. In the early 80's, she became ill suddenly. A third of her lung was removed as it had collapsed. At the time, she was told her lung collapsed due to scar tissue from asthma she suffered as a child. Funny thing though: she never got better.

Over the years, she was misdiagnosed from chronic bronchitis to fungus growing in her lungs. Her health deteriorated to the point of being on an oxygen tank 24/7, most days unable to get out of bed. Finally, she got a call from a hospital in Colorado. They diagnosed her correctly: tuberculosis. But the diagnosis came far too late. The tuberculosis had done considerable damage to her lungs. Even if they could rid her of the disease, the damage it had already done was irreversible.

IF she had gotten a PROPER diagnosis early enough, she would not have spent the better part of two decades suffering immeasurably. She died on October 3rd, 2005, the day after her husband died of cancer. The ventilator keeping her alive was removed and it took less than an hour for her to breathe her last breath.

NOT discussing these threats is what k**led Lynda Phillips. No one wanted to address the probability that she had contracted a deadly disease via i******s. NO one checked her for tb. How many more Americans must die due to this ignorance?

Btw, did I mention this is not an anecdote I read on the internet? Nope! Lynda Phillips was MY MOTHER!!!! I held her hand and watched her die!! I've been screaming about this danger for YEARS but no one listens. NOW, Americans are worried? WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN WORRIED DECADES AGO! Maybe Mom would still be alive if we had been worried. So, who now is not worried about deadly diseases being brought into this country via i******s???
