That is a given. However would your neighbor? Think about it, they would tell the cops what happen and not think of what they may be doing to you.

The problem with that theory is; criminals have no idea who has guns and who doesn't and criminals are stupid, so wouldn't process this information even if they had it. I know it's popular to try and squeeze proof from empirical data, which have no common elements, but it ISN'T science. It's propaganda. There has YET to be proof positive about ANY causality between gun sales and crime rates. The biggest missing factor is, statements from criminals - that they have reduced their criminal activity due to fear of gun owners. Failing that information, everything is speculation, based on one's personal beliefs and hopes. Good for gun sales maybe, but bad for science.

I can post another dozen links if you like that include Interpol, Scotland Yard, FBI, police unions, etc etc etc. Guns deter crime no if's no and's no butts.

Personally everyone who believes that liberal crap should put signs in their yards that proclaim they are gun free.

I know I have been having fun with this one. However on a more serious side do you really think that gun control has anything to do with crime? I have though about it a lot, and I find that it has more to with the government being scare of an armed populace. Like my signature says,
Stay armed stay free, disarm become ens***ed.

Hope is Not a Strategy...But a Gun Is
BY TIM SCHMIDT - USCCA FOUNDER

Tim Schmidt
"What would you do if your family was violently attacked? Would you stand by and hope for the best, or would you do something about it?"

"Would you call the police? Would you hide under the bed while you waited for them to save your family, or would you step between the criminal and those you love?"

"Would you beg for your life—and for their lives, or would you rely on your fists to fight someone intent on doing you harm? After all, you don't have a gun…"

Maybe what I'm really asking is this:

"Would you rather die than use a firearm for self-defense?"

A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the way.

Few are aware that the police are under no obligation to show up at your house if you call them. They are public servants not private as determined in Warren vs Dist. of Columbia.

The famous writer H.L. Mencken said "For every complex problem there is a simple solution-neat, plausible, and wrong. Prohibition was a classic case. The bans on drugs and on a******n (ca. 1870-1973) worked about as well as prohibiting alcohol did. I suspect gun control is another example of neat, plausible and wrong.
i would certainly LIKE to get the guns out of the hands of gangstas, govt. thugs, and assorted morons. Unfortunately that is much harder than getting them away from the decent people.

As gun sales rise, crime levels fall. No matter how hard liberal-minded gun control freaks try to spin the numbers, they just can’t get around the simple t***h that responsible gun-ownership is a huge deterrent to crime.

Unsurprisingly, one of the main reasons for increases in gun crime is the creation of more frivolous gun laws.

I was briefly in the home security business. Average time it takes thieves to enter grab what they want and leave is around 3 minutes. Average police response time is around 12 minutes.

Best deterrent is a barking dog.

Oh did I mention I raise Yorkies and Shih Tzu's. You can buy your wife's a yorkie, a smith n Wesson and a conceal and carry purse and let her decide which one she prefers taking with her to walmart. Lol

>>snip<<

Nearly all the decline in the firearm homicide rate took place in the 1990s; the downward trend stopped in 2001 and resumed slowly in 2007. The victimization rate for other gun crimes plunged in the 1990s, then declined more slowly from 2000 to 2008. The rate appears to be higher in 2011 compared with 2008, but the increase is not statistically significant. Violent non-fatal crime victimization overall also dropped in the 1990s before declining more slowly from 2000 to 2010, then ticked up in 2011.

The household gun ownership rate has fallen from an average of 50 percent in the 1970s to 49 percent in the 1980s, 43 percent in the 1990s and 35 percent in the 2000s, according to the survey data, analyzed by The New York Times.

>>end<<

Patty, there are a couple problems with the logic you are showing here. 1) Gun sales, according to the FBI, were steady during the 1990's and only showed a marked increase during the 2000's . At the same time, the greatest decline in gun violence was during the 90’s, when gun sales were steady, and gun violence was steady when gun sales showed the greatest increase during the 2000's. Shouldn’t the opposite have happened--gun violence was steady when gun sales were steady and gun violence declined when gun sales increased? And 2) actual household ownership of guns has declined meaning that gun ownership is increasing amongst fewer households. How does fewer (paranoid) gun owners buying more guns make gun violence go down?
