Article 1, Section 3 of the Constitution says that the Senate shall be composed of 2 Senators from each state. That would be a bit sooner than the 17th Amendment. No big deal but I have to beat the leaners to that little bit of info.

In a silly mood, bear with me. The issue is Dutchman the 1st Amendment only provides for "freedom" of speech. It does not mention your "think" rights. :) I being a kindly person will allow you freedom of thought. :-D

I don't think the Senate will take part in proposing an amendment that may take away their seats and I just don't want to see a convention called for that purpose.

This is why we have you. My brain did a freeze. I knew without a doubt it was earlier then my reference, but my brain froze. Thank you for your help

Are you kidding!?
They would not even consider an amendment for term limits. If it in any way shape or form adversely effects them, NO action will happen.

Kidding? Nope, just saying what you said another way.

I always get my handy dandy copy of the Constitution that sits right beside my keyboard so I can check up on what I may be wrong about. Everybody should have one of those. Maybe I have studied that thing a bit more than most who use Google to get what they need since I taught Government to high school seniors so many years and studied the Constitutional period in history classes in college.

I had mine next to me; however, was in too much of hurry. Our house has four copies; 1 in rec room, 1 in living room, 2 in bedroom level. My progeny and myself each have a copy next to our handy dandy electronic devices. We are obviously OCD on this document.
It is unfortunate you have reached your tender age. The students you taught are reaching tender ages. I fear for the younger generation as Government/ Civics is not stressed in our public education.

I agree. We should not be paying for Congress and the President's or Vice President's retirement, healthcare, etc. They should pay for their own like everyone else does. They are civil servants and work for We the People, not the other way around as most of them must believe. They were not sent to Washington DC as a Career either. So, after two terms, right - Out the door and get a job like the rest of American citizens have.

Not stressed? Hell, I am not sure high schools teach it at all and I know that many of the colleges don't.

How radical! You actually want them to be productive members of the country. I do not know what you imbibed this evening but it has created hallucinations. Good hallucinations, but not likely. :) ;-)

To my knowledge, high schools require one course in history/government. I am am not sure if the mandate requires it be US History/Government.

I always taught one year of each with History coming first and it had to be American History. I never allowed anyone to push one semester of Government off on my kids. I wanted them to study the Constitution and federal government and some state along with local. Of course, I did my teaching before 1987 and many changes have taken place since them.

And NONE of those changes has been for the better. For years, I have been howling, "close Department of Education". To be honest, a period of seven months occurred about eight years ago that closing them was not my mantra. It was purely selfish economics as my spouse had a mid size software order working through procurement. Upon receiving our commission from the order, I went right back to howling for closure.

Personal note. You will intensely dislike me. I had a c**pon for $5 on a pound of thick slice bacon. BLT with regular mayo on regular bread for lunch today. I took extra enjoyment and passed it to your stomach and brain! Did it work?

If it didn't go through my mouth I missed it. Mom serves supper to both our sons and doesn't always do things that are good for me. We have BLTs about once a month. I love those things, especially the bacon part.
